Hey Dr. Buck, I've been following your channel for a while now and love your videos. I'm a non US IMG and am planning to take Step 1 next year. I really want a neurosurgery residency in a good University program. Do you think I have a decent shot or a shot at all for that matter?
@drbuckparker5 жыл бұрын
Madhur Khullar def harder but not impossible. Will depend on your step 1 score in my opinion:)
@MakeOneSora5 жыл бұрын
Madhur Khullar also since you’re a Non-US IMG, you need to get USCE (by electives or externship)and get strong LoRs
@MalkeAsaad3 жыл бұрын
I am posting a video about that next week with a resident from Mayo Clinic
@uruba-53263 жыл бұрын
Hey @Madhur, I'm a non US IMG vying for neurosurgery too and I keep being told to let it go. Are you still pursuing this dream or changed directions?
@maadyk3 жыл бұрын
@@uruba-5326 I think a lot of it will depend on my step 1 score and CV. I do think that it's next to impossible, so, I have gradually become open to the idea of completing my residency in other branches. I do feel that with a good enough score, General surgery is possible to get, as hard as that might be. After that, maybe I can try for a lateral entry. But, again, I'm now open to doing non surgical fields as well. I'm planning on giving my exam this December so I suppose we'll have to see. What about you? When are you taking it?

I have a question , how many electives do i have to do ? How much it lasts ? Whats the best time in college to do it ? And whats the best time to do the research , in college or after graduation ? And is it mandatory in usa ? And how much does it cost ( elective : neurosurgery ) , and researches ? I hope you answer it , because I'm really confused .

I have a couple of red flags, I'll be applying as a non us img for the first time this year. It says on MAR that I have 62 compatible programs. Do you think I should apply only for these ones and try my luck on soap or even next year after I better my CV? Thanks
@Scott-is2cb4 жыл бұрын
Hey I'm curious. What are your thoughts on acute care surgery taking over trauma surgery or will trauma finally be recognized as a board certified speciality? Sure would be nice if that happened and they expanded trauma in terms of operations you can do...but I dont think that will happen. Looks like trauma will now be acute care and maybe progress into shift work? Since this has to do with residency selection seemed like a good time to ask.

@squirreleyy5 жыл бұрын
A couple of my friends at my Irish medschool finished their degrees (including Nursing) in the UK and then decided to enrol in the Graduate Entry Medicine program - 4 years. You will probably have to write the UKCAT to gain admission. That's just one option.

Hey Dr Buck, watched a lot of your videos when I started my USMLE Step 1 prep cause as a non-US IMG, I needed lots of information and they were very helpful. Looking to get into a general surgery residency program with a step 1 score of 252. What do you think will make me competitive enough? Thank you.
@MakeOneSora5 жыл бұрын
Abimbola Abiola you need to get USCE and 4 LoRs. And yeah a good score in step 1 and 2ck will increase your chance of matching into a General surgery residency Good luck !!!

A to Z Medic LOR is letter of recommendation which you can get from teaching hospitals where you do rotations USCE is US clinical experience
@MakeOneSora5 жыл бұрын
Abimbola Abiola just like he said , Before you apply for a match you should get us clinical experience in form of either electives (if you’re a med student) or externship (if you’ve graduated). These are programs offered by hospitals to get hands on practise in the US. Another important thing is that you need to get atleast 4 letters of recommendation from these programs. Hope this helps :)
