Love this stuff. I work in the semiconductor industry and we often travel to S Korea for work. When at home (in Gloucester, MA) some of us occasionally get together at lunch and prepare budae jigae in a conference room using an electric skillet. Everyone is assigned an ingredient to bring in. I haven't been to Korea in almost six years, looking forward to my next trip. The food is incredible. Cheers.

It's actually very popular among young Koreans for this exact reason. If you drink too much the night before, go out with your friends the next day to have some of this and half a gallon of water, and you'll be feeling... well, you won't feel as bad as you were.
@lukelyon17813 жыл бұрын
This dish actually got its origins because of food shortages in Korea during the Korean war, so Korean natives would go to American army bases to get cheap, processed meats. Then one restaurant owner started making stews with them and that's how this dish got started. So war and famine birthed this.

AMAZING RECIPE! A lot of different ingredients though: sauce; used gochujang instead of gochugaru, left out rice wine, and used miso instead of Korean miso. Stew: used chicken breast, steak, and bok choy instead of most of place of most processed meat. Left out cheese, enoki mushrooms, and baked beans (not a fan). Turned out REALLY good! Very comforting and savory taste for cold weathers!

Nice recipe!. I have a question before I try this. Since I don't have the Korean red pepper flakes, can I substitute that with Korean red pepper paste and if so, how many tablespoons of Korean red pepper paste should I use? If I don't have the Korean glass noodles, I was thinking that I could use two Ramyeon noodle blocks instead of just one noodle block. Would two noodle blocks be to much, should I just use one a half noodle blocks? Thanks
@SeonkyoungLongest8 жыл бұрын
+Nuts In Puss you can use gochujang, same amount as Gochugaru(red pepper flakes). In this case, you need to omit soy sauce and salt though. Also glass noodle is option so you can just leave out and not substitute with other ingredient. Hope this helps!
@nutsinpuss95638 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply. I've subscribed to your channel!. That help's a lot. So I will use 6 tablespoons of Gochujang, no soy sauce and salt. Then follow the recipe as normal with the soy bean paste, rice wine, etc.?

I like to put a lot of vegetables in my budae jjigae to help balance out all the salt. I use about a cup of each: spinach, cabbage, nori, white onion, and sometimes half a daikon raddish if I'm feeling it. Then I stir fry some baby bok choy in about two tablespoons of the broth to eat as a side dish over the rice. I also sometimes add an extra tablespoon of garlic to the whole pot for extra flavoring.
