SRV Brought the blues revival back in the 80's. The blues was dying in the 80's. Stevie looked up and paid massive respect to his heros. In fact, I remember one time SRV showed up to his show and saw BB opening for him and he was pissed. He was going to cancel the show. He told his management he never wanted to see BB open up for him ever again. He was to open up for his heros. Also, buddy loved stevie. They were great friends.

The story went a little bit like this. 8/21/10. Buddy guy playing his guitar in saratoga CA. In the middle of a solo he go into the song so he walked off stage into the audience. He came towards me. With a very "I can't believe it" look on my face he came closer to me to the point that he was about 7 feet away. He came to me face to face. He said "play this." So I played the strings and out came a note. After the show I came to the stage and he gave me a signed pic. I'll never forget that day.

Buddy Guy is one of he people who invented Rock n' Roll and Heavy Metal. Heavy Metal being based in the blues. Black Sabbath was one of the first groups to bring blues to the young folk in the 70s and they didn't even know it was blues. Buddy Guy is the man!

Great stuff. Actually it wasn't Buddy playing Hendrix and Clapton, they played him. He was a huge influence on the pair of them. I saw him in Cambridge over 20 years ago. What a showman.

I'm just saying, here: A really good guitarist finds a way to get what he needs regardless of the hardware. Buddy Guy is a guitarist who never (or at least seldom) dazzles the non-musicians in the audience, but always commands extreme respect from musicians. The reason he gets that respect is that he's in total control of what he's doing.

In 2007, Buddy Guy came to India. And man did he blow us away. We entered the auditorium before they could even do their sound check, refused to budge when the organisers asked us to leave (after all, u don't leave the best seats at a Buddy Guy concert). :) And yes, he did the same thing for us too. BUDDY GUY rocks!

The reason why he's talking about that was because this is in Mississippi. It's a very special place in blues history, as you know. It inspired him to tell this. How would you feel....being a black blues artist....getting nowhere and being ignored all over the place. Then these kids come and copy it and everyone thinks they invented it. You wouldn't feel too good either. But anyway...he respects it now, otherwise he wouldn't be playing these tunes. As that 'invasion' finally made him famous too.

I've seen him live twice. Once was at a blues show, but there were several acts. He was a headliner, playing right before the main headliner-BB King. Better show was at a smaller club and he was the headliner. Hed the audience in the palm of his hand. He played mean and fast and slow and subtle. He belted out tunes and whispered some parts so quiet everyone the stopped making noise to hear him. Get the chance-go see him.

Buddy has played with the Stones, Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck, so he likes and respects UK blues/ rock guitarists. Jimmy Page said at the Kennedy Center Honors that he and Jeff Beck used to listen to Buddy Guy records, so it was a real honor for him to be honored along with Buddy.

True story. Blues were basically ignored in the States til the Stones, Cream et al brought 'em back over electrified. And to this day many Blues artists must travel to Europe STILL to make a living doing what they do. Meanwhile our kids listen to whatever bullshit is being pumped out of the radio (the stations of which are all owned by a handful of corporations.) Teach your kids what good music is. That's all I can say, man.

Here's something so interesting. the man Born in 1936, this man has observed or experienced first hand and then expressed it through his music. That's a feat that most rock musicians cannot boast about. Most can only boast about america from the 60's forward. I put Buddy Guy, BB King, Les Paul all of those greats into one area, ELDER STATESMEN, post 1960 are also great musicians but the real revolutions were happening prior to the popularity of rock music.

You are absolutely right in saying the blues would have carried on. It's also fair to say the Electric guitar helped to take the blues to the next level as well, as well as paving the way for all the modern forms of music based on the blues. While jazz and country swing caught their genesis from acoustic blues, all the rest waited to be inspired by the electric guitar.
