----- I met Buddy Miles when I was only 15 at the Houston Coliseum in about 1971. I was working next door in the parking garage at a national Dog show unloading and helping exhibitors set up. We were barely learning to play music at that age. It was about 4 pm and we heard some drumming from the connected Coliseum , looking with our noses pressed against some french doors, we saw a lit stage and huge speakers. After trying the doorknob, to our amazement it opened and we went in right up onto the stage in front of a large black drummer wearing a sweatshirt full of holes like a rat had got in his luggage. Watching with curiosity as he tuned his drums, we were in awe and I'm not sure we knew who he was.... we had probably heard Down By the River. When some roadies came on stage , they told us kids to get off the stage, Buddy said we wwere OK and not hurting anything so we stayed and asked questions. Before we left, he asked if we had tickets to the show and we answered no that we didn't drive and had no ride. He was offering us tickets, but we declined. Later that day at home, we asked to go to the show and my father gave us a ride, not knowing what a concert was about. Deep Purple was the headliner and I believe Buddy Miles was with the Electric Flag.It was my loudest and first concert ever. Buddy Miles really had class and if I had know he was in Austin before he died , I would have been there to see him again. He was part of my inspiration to be a musician and even working on the road in the background to be a part of the music production business. Thank you Buddy Miles!

i think back in the day it was more abou making music than money. now it seems you cant get signed unless you have the look and sound of a certain trend. obviously thats not to say there arent artists who are out for music. its just harder to find them. and unfortunatly, no buddy died last year actually.
