Will it destroy the rim after the paint wear off ?
@MrAchilles1132 жыл бұрын
@buddy Just a few questions: I gotta wonder about the durability and longevity of painting with cans and not using a strong 2-part poly clear? Next, why are you using bumper/trim paint which I would think is optimized for plastic and not metal? Rustoleum has plenty of automative paint options too and now there are supposedly paint shop quality cans and 2-part poly clear available in cans too. Why not use those? Just curious.

Got a tip for y'all here to Mask off the tires - use DISHWASHING LIQUID SOAP! Paint this all over the tire - LET IT DRY go ahead and spray the rim - (dont worry about going over the tire!) When the paint dries hose off or pressure wash off the dish soap it will lather up taking all the extra paint with it! GO AHEAD try it. Used this method hundreds of times, cheap and easy! GREAT VIDEO BUDDY!

Hey thanks! So you wanna wait till paint is tacky but not dry. Honestly I usually paint about 5-10 mims between coats. Any paint can will usually say "Between a few mins and 45 mins." You don't wanna wait till its dry But you also wanna give it atleast 3 mins or so to not be soaking wet. If youre in a super cold area id wait about 20 mins, And youre doint it in the sun or in a warm area liie texas, florida, Airzona, if say 5 mins is probably enough.

The black plastic around my roof rack was so faded and same result..like new. About two hot summers and still looks like brand new. I don't like the Rustolium Clear Coat, It doesn't hold up to weather as well and will come off if Acetone or Purple Power is used to clean the wheels. And a factory clear coat will hold up. Also what I use is Maxx 2K Clear. It not only holds up and doesn't come off with the Acetone or Purple Power, but it has a high gloss shine and lays much better. Just looks better and lasts longer.
@mguti1792 жыл бұрын
Thanks for this tip. 1st timer and I'm so confused on the enamel vs lacquer vs urethane discussion too. I want to use max 2k clear like you said but have read in multiple places that you CAN'T use rustoleum underneath because they are different paints and can cause bubbling during evaporation if not cured for like a week. Do you know if that's true? is dupli-color better than rustoleum for the color coats? help lol
@RHopper339812 жыл бұрын
@@mguti179 I wouldn't know about that. But Duplicolor is an auto paint, just like Maxx 2k clear is. So I would stick with that combo.

Thanks for this informative video!! Would the rims still be power-washable? Also, do you spray the “inside” or the other side of the rims as well? Thanks!!
@BuddysDIY3 жыл бұрын
I did not spray the inside but you can. I find it pointless since light never gets in there. Also with a little bit of driving it will get brake dust in there and it'll be black as can be in there. I'd try tj get a few inches in there when you initially spray them. And yes they can be power washed for sure. Give them proper curing time and they will be super durable
@Dixler683 Жыл бұрын
Sure hope that worked out for you. 500 grit paper will not remove 150 sanding scratches. Germ-X has skin conditioners and will leave behind a film hindering adhesion. You should be using epoxy based paints.

Hi, Great vid, thanks. I never thought of using sanitizer to prep, always was worried the additives would interfere with the adhesion. So just wanted to double check, Germ-x contains some "nourishing and lipid regulating additives". Doesn't it leave any residue that could cause problems down the line?
@haroonahmed56672 жыл бұрын
your not going to paint on top of the germx, you are going to wipe it away and i don’t think it will leave much residue for it to make a huge difference. i’m doing my rims right now and i used germ x, will let you know if it messes up
@haroonahmed56672 жыл бұрын
update: the paint was not effected at all and it still came out perfect, don’t hesitate to use germx, i think you can use anything alcohol based to clean the dirt / dust! tip: when u take the wheel off the car, paint the calliper while u have the wheel off to save a lot of time, and then do the wheel. u can paint the wheel while the calliper is drying and smash it out
