I don't know how this is going to come off but.. I just very recently, maybe last 6 months, started looking into overlanding and watching videos and the like. This is the first time I've seen a rig walk around that resonated with me. I actually have money but I grew up camping really rough. A tent was a luxury. So when I see these guys with brand new trucks and loads of designer equipment I'm a bit incredulous. I get a feeling, just a feeling like an opinion, that some of these guys are in it for the gear not the travel. This is the first time where I've seen a guy outfitted with what he needed. He wasn't a reflection of an outfitter's or off roader's catalogue. He has the necessary tools for the trip. I would honestly feel better about putting my trip and my safety into his hands more than any other guy I've seen in these videos. Of course the icing on the cake is his clean up operations. Not even the faintest whiff of arrogance or self righteousness about it. You can tell he does it for the love of the land. No pomp. No poetry. No bs. He is my overland hero! Lol

I’ve been camping for years down by the ocean. All you need is 4x4 and a tent. You don’t need a lift, unless you doing some gnarly trails. I’ve used a stock 95 f150, stock 93 Nissan hardbody, stock 89 bronco. It all works. Now I got a 2019 stock Tacoma, which I hate because the bed is like 2” long. Useless.

Disclaimer, I don't have an overland rig and I stumbled onto this channel and binged. Three hours later, this is the rig I have enjoyed the most. It really resonated with me when this amazing man mentioned he has helped numerous people with breakdowns; I can just picture people with rigs worth 60, 70, 80k being helped by this amazing rig. This man is an inspiration. Don't mean to offend with my comment, just awestruck by this man's determination and ingenuity to get out there.

I feel the exact same way. I am in no way knocking the guys who can and do spend huge sums of money on their rigs. But he seems the most capable with the least amount of.... I'm not sure how to phrase it. Him and his rig are hands down the most genuine thing in the game. If I aspire to be half the overlander that he is I'd be far ahead of the game.

I wanted to tell you that I enjoyed seeing what you have done to your rig and hearing about your efforts to improve the camp sites. While it's fun to see the $100K+ rigs I think most of us couldn't afford something like that. I have some re-purposed and home built items in my Jeep and I think those are the items that I am most proud of. The thought and engineering that it takes to see potential in something discarded is inspiring. Best of luck to you.

Congratulations on being the recipient of the first coin, Neil. Well deserved. What you're doing has inspired us to be more proactive in regards to cleaning up what others leave behind. My load plan now includes space for extra trash in anticipation of this. Additionally, we are cutting down on things that will generate trash of our own so that we have more space for what we find on the trail.

Rigs and people like this give inspiration to others who don't have thousands of dollars or sponsorship to pour into their rigs. Kudos to OB for this video! Showing the "grassroots" contingent of overlanding is a very positive thing. We get so used to seeing these dream rigs with buckets of $$$. This is the essence of what overlanding should be about. Btw, the video quality and production is off the roof! Excellent job!

He's the kind of person that inspires the rest of us to get out their in our budget rigs instead of waisting opportunity dreaming of something newer or flashier. This build is so cool. For under 15 grand the entire setup can be had and built! This guy seems cool. He likes the fancy stuff but gets the job done with regular stuff he makes himself. A do it yourselfer! I respect and admire that a lot. Anybody who makes a decent living can go put a new 4runner on credit and drop 15 grand on shops installing equipment and then go out and overland. It takes a lot more work to do all the mods yourself and to make things work with limited money.

"I like to see what things can be instead of what they are." Heck yeah Neil! If the world was filled with more folks like this guy, it would be a much better place. Humble, resourceful, creative people like him can see the utility and beauty in things that have been used and cast aside by others (from old ladder racks to trashed campsites). I'm not an overlander, but I am a rock climber and have spent many months outside in the backcountry. I've seen waste and disrespect for the environment in that community as well, and I agree that education and accountability are essential to making a difference. Actions not words as Neil said. Kudos to Overland Bound for starting the Guardian program and for showcasing wonderful dude with a sweet DIY a rig like this!

Hey I loved this video ! Its so true, you don't need the biggest and baddest, just a reliable machine and some ingenuity and you can go out and have just as much fun. And I loved that he cleaned up the camp sites, I do that all the time, I like the saying "Leave no trace" and thats what I try to do. Thanks for sharing ! Also BWildJournals just got a new sub from me on IG.

Good vid, heading to his channel. Positive impact on the environment is a great idea. Love the concept of an older Toy since I just bought a 2nd gen 4runner. Love it!!

I respect this humble guy and his rig more than the guys that have all the money and the Name Brand they flash around.... RESPECT!

Great rig, and a great message: leave it better than you found it!

I think ive seen this guy interviewed before. Really resonates with me! I can watch so many amazing rigs worth thousands but when I see this guy explain his rig it just sticks with me that much more. Nothing wrong with spending money where you want it but damn if this guy doesnt inspire me to repurpose and get out and be happy with what i have!

I love stuff like this. Its the off road campers before the hype and all the industry. Don't get me wrong, I love gear but I can't afford it all. This is encouraging for people like me who don't have the endless budget. Anyone can do this if they just want to!

Cheers to your ingenuity! Love your truck, had a '98 as well that I bought brand new. Through the TRD supercharger on it and put a Skamper pop-up camper in the bed, my first overland rig.

This is frugality at its finest! And I thought my wife was cheap! Just shows it’s not about what you have but what you can resource on the cheap to get you where you are going. Well done!
