Hi Everyone! We are back on our 1986 Porsche 3.2 Carrera! Whoohoo! Today we are getting the engine off the stand and mating to the transmission. A very big day! Almost a year since the engine went onto the stand. Also, MAIL TIME!!! Our first ever. We read some amazing letters from viewers :) Enjoy!

Hello Heidi and Franny's Garage, I have now watched many of your videos and am quite impressed! This particular video exemplifies why DIY is FAR superior to a mechanic hired at a job rate. No mechanic, unless paid AND has LOVE for the vehicle, would ever pay so much attention to all the details and clean, clean, research missing parts, clean, paint, torque, "torque dot", clean, spend more time on mating/removing parts, clean and re-torque! Long sentence, but this is the standard I follow and I would allow you to work on my vehicles! Thank you for all your videos. They are so detailed that it open the chance for a DIY'r to really get the confidence needed to take on some of the major and minor repairs your channel/videos have detailed. Cheers!, Mr. P

I dropped a 3.3 using one of those three wheeled stands! Ripped right through my knee on the way down! Safety first :)
@HeidiandFranny4 жыл бұрын
That sounds awful!! Yes, I wouldn't recommend that stand. I had the engine propped up whenever I wasn't working on it and I was pretty careful. We did have a quick second it raised a wheel. Very scary. I hope you were able to recover well.

@@HeidiandFranny Nothing a few stitches couldn’t fix. Mild PTSD kicked in when you wheeled your engine over the garage entry. Just be safe, have extra help, and go slow!

I put a transmission in my 57 Chevy in 1971. I had a bumper jack, jackstands, spanners and a flashlight. It was dark by the time I could get to it. Old American cars are so easy to work on. Some of them when working on the engine I could sit in the engine compartment rather than lean over the fender. I think I'd be lost trying to do what you do. I've never even used a torque wrench. I like that you are careful and not afraid to go back in and correct something like that pilot bearing. Grinding that down just kinda made me a little nervous. The old freezer trick works every time.

Hi Chris, I guess it is, that we have done most of the work on. The 308 was a bit more intense but we had a shop do that work. The 3.2 has been a bunch of work but I think it is coming along well. The next video is the engine install and then I need to get back and get it all hooked up. Still lots to do but we are making progress :) F
