PC building is a lot more fun when you chase deals and find that perfect mix of hardware that gives you great performance for as cheap as possible and leaves you with plenty of money to buy games to play. So satisfying.

This is what keeps me building PCs. It's not so much trying to get the best and most powerful components, it's the chase for the deals and the haggling with sellers and seeing what kind of fun stuff I can come up with. I end up finding usually expensive stuff for cheap, but it's pretty awesome knowing that my PC exists because of all the legwork I had to put in to get it where it was, and not everything was ordered online

There comes a point in building and upgrading (on a budget) when cost vs performance reaches (for the lack of a better term) critical mass. What I mean is, you're going to start spending more money than the system or its components are worth to realize only minimal performance gains. You need to determine when enough is enough. What are you happy with? $600 dollars for a 1080/1440p gaming system is still, in my opinion, on the higher end of obtaining or building a "budget" system and the meaning of budget being a relative term. One person's budget is completely different then another's. The market also has a major impact on component pricing and value and even though there is a huge used PC market out there most know what they have and are trying to maximize their returns on selling used parts. It's what I do! I have to say Jay is one of the very few content creators out here that lays it all out there for you to see and really strips down the process so that you can understand every aspect of this industry, however, I've also noticed that his interpretation of what a "budget" PC is and how much disposable income most people have to burn on stuff like this is way different. There are so many different levels to the term "bang for your buck" now it's just becoming annoying and confusing. Just ask yourself, "What do I want to do with my computer," and that will pretty much determine how much money it's going to cost you to make that a reality.

Depending on the games, it might not even be enough space for four of them lol. My 4tb ssd is 75% full and I only have the 10 or so games I play the most often on there. If I haven't played it in the last 6 months, it doesn't stay installed. I'm not saying to go for a 4tb ssd, but you can def do better than a 1tb hdd. 2tb ssd is the sweet spot, nvme if you can

Hello Hello From Canada!!! I love this kind of build Jay. You have shown all the new people to the PC world watching this episode, how to do some super planning for future upgrades. Also, you shared some valuable pointers of how to more safely buy parts from their local Marketplace, or used LA,,,, etc. It is a very important skill to scope out the seller to see what your instincts are telling you about the transaction. To many people are just used to going on line, clicking a few buttons and hope for the best, because it is such a massive hassle to battle on ebay or aliexpress if there are problems. Sometimes there are even better deals for PC goodies on your local "For sale sites", than you find online, plus there is no shipping, no duties and no taxes. Really lucky deal hunters, can sometimes find deals that seem to good to be true, but maybe the seller is moving and needs quick cash or just needs the space in their car. I would love to see a lot more builds like this and part searches with your analysts of the parts, along with your insights of things to watch out for so new PC builders are less likely to get scammed. I can't wait to check out more of these episodes, because the format of these kinds of videos is great entertainment with all your joking around, but also super valuable for learning about the things that you have experience in. It is also so incredible to see all your energy and excitement about making this video and it is awesome to hear you laugh and see you smiling so much. This would be a good point to stop at honestly. But if I were going to do anything else with that system it would be to upgrade the storage to all NVMe. Upgrading to a 1440p monitor is a would be nice, but isn't technically upgrading that system unless it included a 1080p display when purchased. It is a nice add-on though, but the numbers that setup is putting out suggest you don't need to go beyond 144Hz, which should save some money vs going for a higher refresh rate.

My guy would be yoked af INSIDE the first year with minimal effort, and would only benefit. For clarity, you dont need to nor is it advisable for a person to go all out and lift the heaviest weights they can pick up... It is much better to hold up a slightly lower weight for a longer period of time as it builds endurance and muscle strength more effectively. For cardio, I recommend swimming abovw jogging or running, especially if you already have prior joint injuries. You can still find a really good personal trainer, and there is a lot of good information online, but as with everything that is worth doing, don't take any shortcuts.

Thats a $260 well spent, excellent find! I paid 800 for a 6800 during the drought. such a solid card that it was able to wash away any regret I felt. Those were tough times for all of us. That card went above and beyond my expectations. I'm actually putting it into an ITX Cougar Dust 2 case as we speak, with a 5600x3d I got from offer up this afternoon.

After the GPU and CPU cooler upgrade, I would have focused on a second monitor for my productivity. As it happens, in real life, I had the second monitor beforehand, so I upgraded my mouse from an MX Master 2S to a G502 X Lightspeed, and also bought myself an MSI GK71 Blue mechanical keyboard after using a Gigabyte GK7100 scissor switch for over 10 years.

I'd go on the 3 people $500 challenge, but here's why: We get to see what 3 people in the same area can do over the same time frame used and new parts ok, (no friend purchasing.) This gives people a more realistic world view of what's available. A showcase of what 3 similar pieces of hardware and their varied results. The winner is the audience, and then donate the PC's to a good cause/etc.

With the performance level at your disposal now, monitor upgrade options make the most sense. Best value you can get to take full advantage of the 1440p capabilities, maybe even jump into a 4k monitor if there is some value in that segment, focusing on 1440p 120 or 4k 60.

Realistically this system is gonna be plenty powerful for a solid while. I'd only start considering upgrading once there are a few games that you can't run at nice FPS, obviously lowering settings slightly to stretch the longevity. So as far as I'm concerned, just upgrade the NVMe drive for more storage (or even just add a new one) and game away. Temps don't seem to be an issue at all, and positive pressure should mean less dust buildup.

Hi Jay, As for the next step? How about fitting an AIO to the GPU? I know you don't care much about noise, but we don't all have an AC and other sources of sound in the room. GPU fans can be quite loud and I think an AIO could solve that. For instance the Arctic liquid freezer II could do the job or you could use a G12 bracket like you did in a previous video (in both cases I recommend some small heat sinks for the RAM and mosfets). When you fit the radiator to the top, it'll also take care of some extra exhaust that you were considering . How cool would it be (fun intended) to have a PC at this price range which is (at least partially) water cooled?

Do something with older hardware. I have an i7-3770K, 64GB DDR3 system with an EVGA 2070 Super that still runs fairly decent on most the games I play. I did build myself an i9-13900K, 192 GB DDR5, 4090 system recently, but I still like and am impressed at how well my old system still performs.

I think upgrading things like monitor, keyboard, mouse, and headset would be the next steps for that gaming setup. A good build series might be working on building decent system off a cheap prebuilt from somewhere like walmart, but using new parts for the upgrades (or at least accounting for the cost of the new parts). It would be challenging to keep the budget down, but also more realistic for anyone that doesn't live in a highly populated area and doesn't trust 2nd hand parts they can't put there hands on before purchasing. A good video might also be comparing what you can get/build for different budgets as well as comparing performance differences so people can decide if the price increases are actually worth it.

If you are on an old 1080p monitor, that's for sure the next upgrade. Not only does 1440p on 27inch looks a mile better, your "old" monitor probably has bad colours and/or motion artifacts. I feel upgrading the monitor is the most overlooked item in the community, as it makes such a big difference to your experience.

This machine is finished! The only thing I would do is, grab that cheap 3-pack of fans, and MAYBE get another NVMe for storing/running programs and games. Otherwise, put a fork in it, it's done.

Try it on Iracing, and American Truck Simulator, World of Warplanes, or DCS beta, then see what it's temps are. Another way to test would be to load up Native Instruments with Ableton Live, and see how fast that works for you. Currently gaming with a 12700KF using a 3050 with 1TB NVME drives. Music PC is a Beelink 12 Gen i5 with 20GB ram and a 500GB NVME.

I might go for another fan, peace of mind comes cheap at $9. With the rig running so well I could see the user adding a game or things outside the build itself like a mouse or keyboard since they are a big part of the gaming experience. It is a very tidy rig, money well spent.

Back a few years ago when i built this PC I am using now, I was looking for a budget upgrade. I had a Asus tuff sabertooth 990fx r3 mother board with a fx8350 cpu, so I was in need of a upgrade (which I swapped the HD to a m.2 1Tb and gave to my mom and she loves how fast it is). I did alot of research and one cpu kept coming up as "the best value for the price" at the time and it surprised me as I had been using AMD for years as they had been cheaper than intel, and at the time it was the I5 11400f. I did not initially upgrade my GPU as at the time when I built this, graphic cards were severely over priced and scalped to hell and back. So I was stuck with a rx570 4gb version. Then when mining took a dump on using graphic cards for other hardware, I jumped on the sale price for my 6700xt. Sure it may not be top end, but I can set every game I play to ultra and be happy as I am not FPS junkie. As long as what I play is not choppy and looks fluid, I could not care less if I only get 60 fps, vs some top end build that costs 5x as much as I spent...

I want to see you do something like this but for people like me who use my tech for producing graphics, animations, 3D modelling and writing a shed load of code for websites and software. I also design and build games but don't really have much interest in playing them on the PC. Not all of us have our tech for playing games and sometimes I get really annoyed by the primary focus on achieving results for gamers and reviewing tech from the viewpoint of gamers. This is what I love about the Tech Notice channel as they do focus on creators. Don't get me wrong Jay I absolutely love your channel and I've been an avid follower and watcher of your content for a long time but please don't forget about the arguably smaller percentage of us who don't have a primary interest in gaming.

1. Yeah, upgrading to a 1440p monitor would be a definite next step imo. 2. Add the $9 case fans up top so you can adjust the fan curves and run quieter. 3. DDR4 RAM is cheap, and this system has some that's on the slower end. If you can snag a good deal on some faster RAM (potentially 32GB) and the CPU proves stable enough to handle it, that should stabilize the frametimes enough to where you can probably get away wiwith 1440p Ultra presets for that extra bit of bragging rights. Even if you still need FSR to get 80-100 FPS, from the perspective of someone who's doing this for their first time, the pride from this kind of achievement is 100% worth it. 4. Optionally, the motherboard has another NVMe slot, so you might as well use it. Store some games that need the faster speeds on there, keep the older/less intensive titles on the HDD. As the Steam library grows, you won't ever have to worry about uninstalling a game to make room for a new one.

Without spending another cent, rotate the CPU Cooler 90 degrees so the fan forces air up, and move the rear fan to the top of the case as an exhaust, that will also help draw heat away from the GPU.

I use it for 1440p gaming and can get most games to 120 fps or beyond, but I lock the monitor to 120 because I get headaches when it's faster than that. Also, I don't use zero rpm, and my temps out of games run in the high 29s low 30s and 53-ish in-game for things like Horizon FW. I feel like even paying the $400-ish I paid last year it was a bargain for what it does. 4k would be wasted on me, this is a perfect "good enough" card and a huge step up from the 8 year old laptop I upgrade from. I've yet to find anything it can't do well with at 1440.

What I would do if the PC was staying for a bit More memory. RAM and Storage. It might not affect the fps but just in terms of usability For the monitor - you fine with 60fps get the 1440p - Keep the 1080p monitor assuming its 144Hz and you want higher fps but effectively this build is done for this budget which is exactly where I am with my PC, waiting to see whats coming end of the year if its a system upgrade or just swap the graphics card and move up to 1440p 144Hz

To answer the question at the end. Currently I wish to upgrade, and what I can upgrade is the GPU and PSU. But since this build that you've done is already superior to what I have, if I was in that position, I would definitely stick with what you got and put a hold on further upgrades until there's more available budget. Meanwhile using that time and remaining budget on a game or two, or and in my current situation spend that time not having to worry about an editing software overheating/ramping-up my system more than the games that I play do. lol
