Great to hear a comparison of P90 equipped guitars. I've always been a P90 fan and started to look for a P90 equipped guitar back in 2015. Not having deep pockets, I had my eye on an Epiphone Les Paul '56 Gold Top but at the time Epiphone had stopped making them and I couldn't find a secondhand one for love nor money. Then out of the blue I went into a local guitar shop to buy some strings for my Strat and there on the wall was an Epiphone Les Paul '56 Gold Top. Trying to conceal my amazement, I casually asked the owner how much he wanted for it. He said the list price was 500€ but that as it had been hanging on the wall for five years and no-one had shown any interest in it, he'd let me have it for 350€. He even threw in a gig bag. I got it home, cleaned it up, oiled the fretboard and put on a new set of strings and it came alive. The neck pickup is sweet and warm and the bridge pickup has plenty of growl and screams through a Blues Driver. An absolute bargain!
@paulbateman812 жыл бұрын
I had a 56 pro and it was amazing. I only sold it to pay for my Gibson LP special tribute with P90s. The neck on the 56 was huge but the sound was amazing. You got a great guitar there. I’d say my epiphone was slightly more bassy overall and mellow and the Gibson has a fraction more bite and clarity. My next purchase will be a R4 one day.

I feel that tbey just so not give me what i need. They just sound sterile, their voice is very samey all the time. I guess that's maybe a result of me playing only single coils for 12 years hahah. But about 2 my months ago i went to a jam with a friend of mine. One of the fellas there had one of those new Yamaha Revstars, with p90s. I asked him if i could try it, he let me. It was soooo nice. It played so buttery and sweet. When i was done , i said thank you and then told him that i have mever played a set of humbuckers that sounded so nice and sweet. I was seriously ready to go grab a Les Paul haha, since i never had one cause the hummers. He told me the pickups on his rev was just a fat single coil. I was kinda not surprised haha, it had such a wonderful voice...which buckers dont have

Dunno, mate-that Fender was well gorgeous, mate. It could snarl, it could sparkle, it could fatten up and cry the blues…I’m not normally a Fender guy; that’s how I know it had to actually be genuinely good. I’m naturally a sucker fer Rivolas and Revs, so I knew I’d like them regardless of how they actually came across, comparatively-thus I disqualified miself as a judge of them. The Gibson Special sounded great, but I’m so bored of Gibsons I could shite. That Fender just truly surprised the hell out me. Of course, I think e said it’s Japanese-only, so paying the import fees will bring the price up to $3500US, likely, and I don’t come from a background where we can afford to spend $3500 on anythin what ain’t gonna make that money back-plus profit, guaranteed.

I like Reverend design but the tone is also depending on the amp and amp settings. Which one do you think could do a tele jazz tone better? My reference to the sound is Jakob Bro.
