Love it. I’m 55. Bought a fairly small beater car to run back n forth to work to save on fuel. Decided if I’m gonna drive it I may as well enjoy it and I got into the whole bass thing and have loved it ever since. I can’t afford the finest of things but this set up tickles me to death.

Just got back in the car audio game after a 30 year extended break, lol. Back then had a nice system that transferred from used vehicle to used vehicle. Pheonix Gold ms275 amp powering 2 x jl audio 12w6v1 in a 4.4 ft3 box tuned to 28 hz, sony 50 watt four channel driving the m.b. quart separates front stage and rear fill. Loved the sound and boom. What struck me these days getting back into it is all the new learning of tech....it's taken a while to catch up on all the new stuff. Very cool being able to use cell phone for pretty much all head unit duties: music collection, music player with 31 band e.q., spotify, etc... all sent to headunit via bluetooth. So convenient! DSP, kicker keylock, 1 ohm amps, 10 cents per watt pricing, long excursion subs, "hair tricks", etc... Pretty happy with what i chose for components. Decided I wanted to keep factory deck in 2012 kia sorento, so got a kicker keylock dsp to fix the screwed up frequency response from the high level outputs. Got a ds18 zr2000.1d 2000 watt amp to power one ds18 12 inch zxi12.2d in a 1.73ft3 bass bunker ported box tuned to 36 hz or so. Got a set of the bottom of the line focal separates for the front stage. No hair tricks with this setup but the sound is fairly clean, low enough and loud enough to get me grinnin. Going from long term memory, the one 12 inch sub is probably on par or louder than the 2 x 12 12w6/s in the 1990's system. I think the mb quarts produced a better sound for the front stage but they were the top of the line components at the time. Overall, i'm happy.

Then upgraded to a pair of the blue cone big surround Jensen 12's (XS1212) on a pair of Legacy amps that did about 200w real world power to each sub. The reality is the majority of people don't want bass in their car. Bass takes up space. I really dig car audio because it gave me a practical application for all of the math I used to study in high school. I respect those who are willing to modify their stock electrical system to larger alternators and massive cables, but it's a waste of money for most. Electricity can do a lot more than make a speaker vibrate. Excellent video: low budget builds forever.

You can only squeeze so much out of budget gear despite what all the inflated ego's say on KZbin. If just looking to get some bump in the trunk, a bunch of extra effort isn't even worth it. Time is better spent making everything clean in appearance. If trying to do some SPL farts, why waste the time with budgets? Used to be 150 was the target, but now it's nothing special until 160. So, just keep it real I say. You aren't getting there with a tight budget and low end gear.

The key is to just have fun with it, doesn't matter what you're running if you enjoy it. Could be a cheap little 6.5 in a prefab, or a couple department store 12's, or a monster SPL system. It can be tough not having money to go all out with the "best" brands, but is what it is sometimes. I just play with what I can get second hand cheap. Currently using a cobbled together 15 (I built out of two dead subs I had laying around) with 1000-1500w, prior to that a pair of Kicker CVR 12's, prior to that Kove Armageddon 15, before that MA Audio 12's, Jensens, Sony 12, etc. I do have a pair of older Sundown X18-v2's I got cheap that need reconed, but recones are not as cheap as they use to be so just kinda hanging on to them for the future, decent platform to rebuild. At the end of the day, I can have fun with some old Jensen 10's, or American Bass Elite 12, old MTX 6000 10, etc, it's all fun to play with when messing around with audio gear. I might not like a company for specific reasons (pretty rare though), but I'm a basshead so I don't care what people are running, and I'll use anything if I got a bargain on it. I love car audio and bass, been playing with the stuff since I was a young teen in the late 90's.

Can you cover a topic about port tuning. Would like to know ways to tune lower on box that's already tuned.
@JasonWW20003 ай бұрын
Three things effect box tuning. 1. Net box volume 2. Port area 3. Port length If your gross box volume is set, then you can extend your port length (what Jerry did in Jangalang). This does reduce your your net box volume, slightly raising the tuning frequency, but extending the port length more than compensates for that. Or you can reduce your port area. With a slot port you can add wood to shrink it down. This will increase your port velocity and potential make chaffing noise at very high volumes.

I got 2 sundown nsv5 12s on a crescendo 8k. 8 8inch sundown neo mids in the my doors on a crescendo s1 and a crescendo s4 on 4 sundown tweeters. Gp alt and 3 d4s jp40 lithium and the amount of shit people talk about my jp 40 lithium or my gp alt or even my overpriced sundown stuff is outstanding 😂. The bottom line is like mentioned in this video. As long as you like it, it is all that matters. If you are not paying for someone else's stuff, don't worry what someone has.
