Two nice blokes enjoying some beers in the great outdoors. No complaints here. But the video title and the intro suggest a "compare and contrast" exercise. If I was considering spending £30 or £800 on a tent there's nothing in the video that would help me make that decision. Ease of construction, weight, comfort, features. These are just a few things I would expect to be covered from a video that's titled and introduced in such a way. Not meant as a criticism, just an observation. Glad you enjoyed yourselves and got a taste of that freedom we've all been missing.

Fair enough mate, we just wanted to show it can be done with cheap gear and enjoyed just the same. Maybe a more in depth comparison for a future video. Thanks for watching 👍

Had to comment and subscribe. This year is the year I am wild camping, something clicked with me and I think it will give me back some of what I have lost in recent years in the outdoors. Looking to keep it local on a few fells nearby in the spring but assembling my budget gear over the winter. Your videos are an inspiration and the delivery is perfect. You are a true advocate for the hobby. All the best man. Stay safe.

Great video chaps! Can’t beat it can you. Fair play lugging that weight around! You’re right about the kit though. It’s great to be able to spend a bit more on kit and enjoy the benefits the price offers but in no way is it essential as you’ve demonstrated. Only done the lakes a couple of times, from Coniston to Keswick, setting up at sprinkling tarn. Absolutely beautiful. I’ve got a craving for that beer you were supping at the pub! I started cutting pack weight- it makes a huge difference. Don't need to go ultralight or ultra expensive cutting from 18kg down to 10kg pack weight made all the difference for me mainly by reducing the big 3 weight and using a water filter and carrying less water. Depends how far you are walking though, heavier pack is prob fine for shorter distances.

I've been there. Cheap kit to start with then going ultralight and spending hundreds and hundreds. I'm now slowly going back to not so cheap because the kit isn't that much better and doesn't really make my camping experience any better. It's a mistake quite a few people make thinking it will make it more enjoyable. It is what you make it not necessarily the kit.
@MCMOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
That's it Kev, we've been going hiking and wild camping for 25 years now, started off with limited budgets and got cheap and cheerful. Got decent jobs and could buy better stuff, not happily in the middle zone. We've got cheaper gear and better stuff - the main thing is, getting out and enjoying it - and as demonstrated in this video - a 30 quid tent vs 700 quid tent makes no difference - ATB mate
@TheOfficeChristian4 жыл бұрын
I agree. I'm a middle of the road gear buyer. Never let me down.
@vamboroolz16124 жыл бұрын
It depends on what gear you are buying. Cheap does for some things, for others you need the better quality if what you are using it for demands it. I like to set up near the summit of a Munro or wherever the fancy takes me. You need decent gear that can take a battering from the wind and rain. If I am going to be out and I know I can take a zephyros tent then I am happy taking that too. You can get rapped up in having the best and every possible option of the best......I find my wife is great for preventing that extravagance though😉..........

Smashing spot and scenery. A wee river for a beer chiller is always an added bonus too. As you say, for not a lot of cash you can go to these stunning places in spring/summer. Gents, you made that look so enjoyable. Your commentary style is so easy and natural to listen along with. Some great beers to go with the trip. I just kind of stumbled onto this video and I'm really not a fan of all the "hit the thumbs up and don't forget to subscribe " plugs I've seen on most videos but you've shown that it can be done sensitively without the hard sell. This is only the second time I've ever subscribed to a KZbin channel as you guys are so easy to watch. Only one question. I'd just like to know what cameras did you take on this adventure? Thanks for making a great video chaps. Looking forward to the next one already.

Thanks Dave - appreciate the kind words. Cameras were a GoPro Hero 7 Black and a Canon EOS M50

Class vid as always fellas, just ignore the very small minority of stupid comments, some people just don’t like seeing others enjoy themselves, even in a completely respectful and harmless way. Keep it up lads 👍🏻

Nice video. I'm a pond away and a little rusty on my accents of the UK. I'm curious about yours and your mates. I'm hearing Skouse ,especially on the U, as in thumbs up. Also detecting some Welsh lilt as if you're something inbetween.

Hi there - firstly, thanks for watching! Second, not a bad ball park guess - I grew up just outside of Liverpool so that's where that comes from.... As for Welsh, well my surname is Welsh and my great great ancestors came from there. So there you go! ATB mate

Cracking vid lads, looks like you've pinned that routine nicely, and always lucky to get that weather. I've got a Vaude Terraquattro 3P, bit big for a single person, but amazing for two, stands up to any weather, I do like my kit :-) I always feel that even a bubbling stream during the day, sounds like Niagara falls during the night though!

Thank you for watching. The stream was very loud during the night, but I find it relaxing. Was a great trip out and very memorable. I've never tried any Vaude tents but the ones I've seen look great and well made. ATB, Chris

@@MCMOutdoors Wouldn't recommend it for a long hike though, mate. They weigh a fair bit (4kg!) because of the mechanism which instantly erects the tent. It's probably why I don't see many people with them.

The best budget tent i have got is the vango helix 100 from costco. I paid 50quid on special buy its gone up now to 60 now... inflation. But it can be stripped down fairly light i think 1.2 or 1.3 kg by using a dry bag not not the one provided. Its been bomb proof to be fair even in awful weather aswell. The only real con with it is its front opening so is abit more tricky to get into, similar to gettin into a bivi bag with a A frame tarp
