The tumbleweed tanks the fps due to overdraw. As the tumbleweed consists of large transparent textures overlapping one another, this requires the gpu to draw pixels multiple times over, hitting fill rate and (most probably the bottleneck at 720p) memory bandwidth. This is also why smoke and fire are also quite intensive in CS:GO, as they're really just many overlapping textures, where each texture incurs an additional draw for the encompassing pixels.
@BudgetBuildsOfficial5 жыл бұрын
Perfect Explanation of it.
@builder3965 жыл бұрын
Wouldnt that explanation also apply to smoke (as from smoke grenades)? I remember a lot of games tanking their FPS with badly optimized smoke.
@Lauren_C5 жыл бұрын
@@builder396 The amount of screen filled by smoke is a highly relevant factor as well as resolution. A plume of smoke at a long distance is vastly less expensive as the smoke covers fewer pixels, and contributes to less overdraw. When the smoke is close enough to cover large parts of the screen, more pixels are drawn multiple times over. Higher resolution also means large plumes of smoke become more expensive (720P - 1080P doubles overdraw costs). In the PS3/360 days, smoke and particles were often selectively rendered at reduced resolutions to reduce the impact.
