When I heard you were trying Android 10 on that phone I got so curious how it would perform so I actually flashed it onto my old Galaxy SII ;-) It actually worked better than I expected though the battery-life like you mentioned is rather poor and there's no fast way to charge it. However if my main phone were to break I could honestly use the Galaxy SII until I get a replacement since it does the small necessary things though not especially fast.

You're underestimating how far budget phones have come. A Redmi Note 8t sports an 8 core CPU with 4 cores at 2Ghz and 4 at 1.8 Ghz. It has 4 gigs of RAM and 650 Mhz GPU. The SII has a 1.2ghz dual core, 1 gig of RAM and a 266 Mhz GPU. It was definitely a beast at the time, especially compared to Apples offering though. But budget phones have come far and have become decently powerful. I remember checking some budget phones back in the day and man, where those things sluggish as hell. The S2 wins it on price though as it's only about 5 bucks now. :D

The good old LG G4 is a high end phone from 2015. Most phones still don't have as many pixels in the screen as this old thing does. It was the first phone with a 1440p screen and still works fine today so long as you don't plan on using the latest and greatest 3D gaming apps. Most work fine, but the Snapdragon 808 is showing its age. It does have 3 gigs of ram which today is still pretty good. It's amazing to think that these old phones are still usable today for almost all tasks years on down the line when it seems like you are told to upgrade every year or 2. It's going to be hard to give up user replaceable batteries that is for sure. Great video as always. Can't wait to see what phone you test out next!

I was really happy with my S2 back then. Especially putting in a 32GB microSD and having USB-OTG host felt like a real computer in my pocket. Also it had MHL, meaning I could play N64 games on my TV using the S2 and a fake 8€ Bluetooth PS3 controller and 6€ MHL adapter ordered from DealExtreme. Also unlike the iPhone at the time it supported almost all Bluetooth devices, like keyboards and mice. When the S5 came out I got the S4 to upgrade and it felt like a good successor, I had the S4 until 2018, when I switched to my Honor 9 because Samsung got too expensive. More than 300€ for a two year old Samsung phone just wasn't worth it.

Just to add on battery life. Back in the day, I used a lot of android phones, and it is so simple to forget how fleeting was the battery life on them, should you use them for any demanding tasks. Anything utilising 3g, as in streaming youtube, any 3d games, etc would devour your battery in less than an hour, even on a brand new...ish phone. I do enjoy my Samsung Note 9, allowing me to work remotely for 8h now, and it seems to be a new standard, but older phones were not as good as we remember them to be. Anyways, thanks for your videos bud, I do enjoy them a lot, and keep up the good work!

My dad gave me this as a pass down back in Dec 2013, it felt like the bee's knees when I got it and having moved from an S8000 JET (with an awful resistive screen), I absolutely loved it, it was a huge step up from the S8000 and having a touchscreen that actually bloody worked was fantastic. 4 phones after that now I have the Galaxy Note 10+ 5G. Times have certainly changed.

I still have my 7 year old Samsung Tab 3 Lite SM-T110 laying inside one of my drawers. 9 months ago, its operating system finally had it. It couldn't go to recovery mode because of bootloop issue (I couldn't turn it off because of that). Somehow it can go to download mode but, I don't know how to flash it.

The hours I spent fucking around with superuser priviliges on this phone, the hours spent with the XDA forums open, flashing various roms etc was ridiculous. 9 times out of 10 it was a complete waste of my time and I ended up actually bricking one of these back in the day. Not to mention the fact that the universal charger port seemed to be weak on these models meant that for me this phone was an absolute fucking nightmare. 10/10 it's legit my favourite older phone despite the countless hours my 13 year old dumbass spent destroying them. This video brought me some much needed nostalgia.

Fun fact, i had one of the earliest Android smartphones a LG GT540 Optimus. iirc it had something like 96mb of RAM, a MIPS cpu @ 600mhz and the equivalent of a "2d graphics accelerator" that being, not much of a gpu at all. It came with Android 1.5 and got updated when turned on for the first time to 1.6. Official support was up to 2.2.1 or something (i truly hated the old way of android updates) i got the phone mugged from me but i had a beta 5.0 running on it. I remember watching a 6.0 or a 7.0 rom available on 4PDA or HTC Mania. Even funnier was updating to the S II Advance just days before the phone was axed and the joint venture between Ericsson & Samsung ended.

Had one of these when they were almost brand new. Got one on sale just a few months before the S3 came out for a good price. I started having issues after about 2-3 months of use with frequent crashing and random reboots, the battery life was terrible on day one and the phone got unbearably hot when doing anything on it for more than a couple of minutes (especially playing games or watching videos). After about a year it started doing this extremely fun thing where it actually stopped working as a phone. It wouldn't let me call anyone or send text messages whatsoever unless I rebooted the phone several times and after doing that it would maybe work for one phone call or a couple of minutes. I got myself an iPhone after that. Two Samsung phones with a ton of software and hardware issues was enough for me.

Samsung phones have amazing third-party support. Even my old Galaxy S4 has support still from lineage OS. and if it wasn't for it's mediocre 16 gigabytes of internal storage, I probably could daily drive it. turning off animations in developer options is also a good way to make the interface feel much more snappier on these older phones.

I love seeing other people doing this stuff!! I use an s3 almost daily (Sorry folks, it's a.. *ahem*.. "shitter phone"), and it's an s3 flashed with android 8! Sadly i couldn't find a good rom with anything above 8, but it runs well and youtube and other apps run great! The only real downfall is the boot time, it takes like.. ~3ish minutes to boot up. Also just forget about multi-tasking, but as long as you remember to clear each app after using, it works decently well!

I still use an LG F5 from 2013 running Android Jellybean, and a lot of things still work. Google Chrome, Firefox and Opera open at least most web pages just fine, Spotify and Gmail still work, KZbin and KZbin Music also play videos just fine, I haven't found any video that wouldn't play. And many games from the Google play store work, though you'll also find many that won't work. It's still a usable phone and a somewhat usable version of Android, though it has its limitations. There are still many apps that support Android Jellybean, which is natural. I guess developers want to reach as many users as they possibly can, so they keep support for as many versions of Android as possible.
