I have pulled my fair share of MGs out of the woods over the years, and that one does not look too bad. Needs a bit of welding on the sills and the usual rot spots, but I bet she will run no problem.

Sitting with an open roof for 18+ years & sunk into the ground, I'll guarantee the floors and frame rails are gone. You didnt notice the right rear wheel up in the fender? Spring mounts gone. Its not worth it when you can buy a driver for 5 grand.

The MG Midget is a great car and I been in one that was immaculate, but wasn't allowed to buy it because of how cramped it was, as I am 6.2 feet and barely got in and out of the little nugget, so I decided to stick to the Midget's big brother, the MGB.

Richard Cline I agree with you, I would like to see her restored too, there is far more good metal on this than on my car I am restoring on my channel, which was far more rusty before we rebuilt the 1974 shell with new old stock ford panels, but i have spent thousands of pounds so far, and I given this channel is "budget builds", they probably do not have the cash to do it sadly.

Definitely a car that made the pages of history, considering over half a million of these were made in the course of 18 years, with 3 out of 5 of them sold in America. I own a last-year 1966 MGB and it's very reliable, even with the stock exhaust, carbs, and engine. The one thing I do not like about these earlier models, however, (before 1968) was the 3-synchro gearboxes, in which 2nd gear usually failed because of a brass baulk ring, that later had a recall at the end of 1967.

Seen worse restored back to use in the UK. You see people restoring these and minis back to show finish, sometimes it seems that the registration plate and badges are the only things left of the original! Reckon that engine would go nice in your Nash kit car . Use 3 in one oil to top up the SU dash pots, what we used to use in the UK for the 1.8 B series engines.

I'm guessing a lot of those in this country are using heritage shells? In the UK, you don't need to leave a car out in the woods for 30 years for the whole bottom three inches to dissolve like that, just drive it in winter on our salt-encrusted roads 😪
@encellon

Had the '69 version 50 years ago -- same color, same wire wheels, same twin carbs (also overdrive and a trunk rack). The plywood saved the interior from utter ruin. But these cars rot under the best of conditions. IMHO, where its all original, the car is probably worth more intact than in pieces (to an avid BL collector) -- good luck bringing this baby back to life.

I am really glad that I came across this channel. I have had my share of MG's. Three Midgets, and four B's. Currently my 76 represents what I have been able to keep, and keep married. Nice that you were able to recover this example in one piece, but I doubt that you'll be able to redeem the complete car. The 1800 engines in these were nearly bullet-proof, so you should be able to get it to run, but it's not gonna be too easy. The twin carbs pose a reasonable amount of finesse all on their own. Very glad that you were able to save this specimen. The running gear and drive train are well worth saving, as there are fewer of them remaining. Keep up the good work.

You'll be able to get that running. Those engines can go on forever. The only time they don't leak is when they're out of oil. MGBs are legendary rotters, so you'll be able to get all the bits. Great fun car if you can restore her. Worse cars have been fixed

The only reason I have slight doubts is the smell of gasoline in the oil, that indicates leaky rings, but since it was made back in 1970 or '71 (the model-year is newer), it was built with more concern about durability, it just might run. Your daughter is adorable, God bless your little family!

I really enjoy your videos. In 1980 at 16 I bought my first car, a 1971 Blue MG Midget for $600, I was 16 and in love with that car. The car didn’t run so I literally pushed it home. It took me most of the summer to get it running, but I’ll never forget the moment it finally started.... magic. I drove it for a few months before it died and I regretfully sold it due to lack of money, but to this day 40 years later I still have the MG bug and smile whenever I see one so watching you bring them back to life is great fun.

Surprisin' izn'it. In certain parts of the US of A people parks their cars (like the Camaro) and plant a row of trees along its side so that when they come back from the mall they can be sure its theirs.... Only issue here is that the beer at the bar seems to be flowing a 'lil bit freely in some states and they spend years findin' them damn carsz agen ..... LOL. Wassup people of youtuuube ? - That guy just cracked me up :-) You can just hear the guy's father: "Well Gomer; this here's a projekt me an' your Ma initiated 25 years ago. Juss checkin' out if these 'em cars wouldn't grow in the back yard y'know. They sold for gold back then y'know, only take a looong time to grow. In fact, don't look to see like they grew any son.... don't look to see like they grew any." This is a blast :-)

There’s a lot more of it left than there would be if that MGB had been dragged out of a wood in the UK after 30 years! I guess it probably will run but possibly not necessarily that well. It’s a shame to scrap it. Nice spec. with wires, chrome bumpers and British Racing Green. Possibly one to ‘flip’ as a project once you get it running. It’s looking like a ‘big budget’ build! I believe you can get complete body shells to restore those over here from British Motor Industry Heritage Trust or similar.

Been a while since I first saw this video, these MGB's were once numerous even in New Zealand although RHD ( like UK ), not only did they come in 4 cyl, but 6 cyl & V8. A larger displacement would seem more enticing to pursue, however this looks like twin strombergs ( typical period UK ), will watch to see how it goes.😎👍👌

@1chish
@1chish 4 жыл бұрын
@@rich_edwards79 I wasn't suggesting that was a viable option just pointing out that panels and even bodyshells are readily available to restore it. Actually the floorpans etc are not that difficult. And tell me about costs of restoring cars. I am 90% towards finishing a 1978 Mini 1000 and the panels, basically everything below the windows, were £2,400 ($3,000). Expensive but they were all British Heritage all pressed on original presses. A Mini bodyshell is £9,000 ($11,250) so way out of my price range

McClellan, AL. a LONG TIME AGO, lol! 2 other channels I watch(Jonathan W. & Vice Grip Garage) have been dragging cars out of the woodline & bringing them back to life, & then I stumble across your channel, & "I'll be dipped!" if you're not doing the same thing... Great minds think alike. But if you keep digging up MGs, I'm going to wonder if you've got a family connection to them, like a sixth sense or something :) And tell JT no one's going to beat him up about that chain, but he should get it tightened - I've heard a couple of stories about chain saws snapping, & they don't really have happy endings. I dig your new intro & outro, btw!

Really glad you’re enjoying! 😊 Haha awesome! Maybe so, we mostly just get them to keep the ones we already own going. Parts cars bring good parts and make things a lot cheaper! On a budget 😊 Definitely wouldn’t want him to get hurt! Thank you! A subscriber made the intro more me! 🙂

Brings back a lot of good memories. My first car was a 71 mgb - gt hardtop. Dual SU side draft carburetors. Bought with the original British racing green, I repainted a metallic gray a couple of years later.The handling was great, the rack and pinion steering was the best. I'm not sure If every model had an oil cooler but my car did, never had any overheating issues. Eventually "souped" it up, put in high compression pitons and a 3/4 racing cam. Also removed the original SU's and replaced it with a huge 44 weber, could fit only one because I also installed headers and the new intake manifold was to big to fit another. However, that being said I had for almost 30 years. When I got married didn't have the luxury or the money to maintain. Left in my parents front yard for another 10 years, as it was falling apart someone came by one day and wanted to buy it for a parts car. Sadly I let it go, as it was being towed away I remembered all the good times I had in that car, still miss it. it. Thank you for your video, I wish it was 1971 again. My car took a lot of abuse, I'm saying you'll be able to start it, can't wait for Part II.

4 years ago i traded my 73 Hornet X to my brother for a 70 MGB-GT.It didn't take much to get it started.The fuel pump contacts needed cleaning along with the Carbs.Now that it runs,i'm going to fix the body,replace the sills.I had a 63 MGB,a 66 MGB,a 67 Sprite,plus Midgets.You get more enjoyment out of driving these cars than many other types.

Hey, good catch on the Olds engine. I've been doing the same thing for many, many years. 7 years or so ago I brought a '56 MGB back to life after 20 years and 4 years ago a '56 Jag Mark V. It's a good trade. Those were actually done for other people. I've only done 148 fix and flips in the last 19 years. I might have a couple of carb kits for this. Not many people know points anymore.

@@BudgetBuildz I did a '65 Chevy 4dr Caprice for a customer that was parked in a field in Wyoming for 30 year. He wanted the original engine, locked up, built. Found out why it was parked. Blown head gasket. A 327 with stock double humper heads. 194s. Found one to replace and learned electrolysis to get rust out block. Complete rebuild, stock. Runs now. You have some fun creations ahead. Enjoy.
