Note: If I was worried about every time my budgie was puffed up, I'd be an anxious wreck 24/7. Budgies also poof up when they're relaxing and sleeping, so general poofness isn't a good indicator. You can look for other symptoms along with being poofed. Unkempt feathers, general lack of energy, cere/eye discharge, feces consistency/color, etc. Budgies love poofing up in a healthy state, so don't take this one symptom as a tell-all.

I have one budgie called Tommy. 2 of his friends died both in the past years. So he is alone sadly. But he is not depressed or something! He is healthy, happy and is interested at me A LOT haha. When I talk to him, he stares to me all the time and sometimes he reacts to me what I'm saying so we have a little conversation sometimes. He can also say his name and a little phrase like "Tommy sweet" translated to Dutch, it is "Tommy lief". And the funny thing is that he learned talking by himself I didn't learn him the words. He is 7 years old now and is my best little buddy :D And when a budgie stands with one little paw, that is also a sign that a budgie is healthy and comfortable . My budgie does that luckly
@misty_blue3 жыл бұрын
Wow, 7 years old, that's a great age! 😊 Yes, I think as long as a budgie gets a lot of attention from the owner(s) when other budgies have died, it will be ok. The main thing is that a budgie should have enough social interaction 😊 I'm glad to hear your budgie is doing well, even after his friends died. It's great to have such a relationship with your bird 😊

Thank you for posting this. I think this video is very helpful for new bird parents, it isn’t scary, and it gives all the different reasons the bird may show this behavior. Not everything is a sign of illness. Once, I almost rushed one of my birds to the vet for a crop adjustment! Really, she just saw me coming and thought she needed to make room for a treat! I know that sounds silly, but people get attached to their birds quickly and don’t want anything bad to happen to them. The part about the hiccups could save someone stressing their bird out by seeking medical attention over a non-issue. Avians can be located far from the bird’s home. The bird can also pick up that the human is stressed and really become stressed itself. Knowing how to interpret things in the correct context is best. If your pal is clinging to the bars with his beak because he has paused in the middle of his grand full-cage climb, he is fine. If he has been there for over fifteen minutes, though, he is probably really stressed out. Certain flocks will do certain behaviors because this is just what they’ve decided on. Mine used to greet people with a wing flip. Now, they both stretch out one wing to say hello. It’s hilarious. It’s always the right wing, and they will move their heads to stars at you when they do this.

Thank you for your very informative video. My little Joey is a real chatterbox! His vocabulary is incredible! He sits on my finger for ages nattering away, "Does Joey want to go to bed", "Let's get you some fresh water", "Hello Cerys", "Hello Jade", "Cheeky Boy", "Joey Kiss", "I love you", "Night Night", "God Bless". The only thing I'm concerned with is his moulting. He was clipped by the breeder (he's 1 year old in November) and because of his loss of feathers, he has zero flight. Apart from when I'm away from home for the day, his house doors are open all the time, but he drops to the lounge carpet when he wants to come to me poor soul. I think it it is so moving to think he is prepared to fall 3 feet to the carpet to come to me. Of course most of the time I go for him and bring him to my chair on my shoulder. He is a very special little pal. ❤

Recently I found and caught a budgie OUTSIDE!! This was less than 24 hours ago, but my family got a small cage just big enough for it, and some food, water, toys, and a large treat for it to help keep it as relaxed as possible, I'm trying to do a crash course on budgies to help understand it better as we have never owned birds before and don't have experience. But this really helped!! Thank you! Ps: We are calling it Sprite, we are fairly certain its a female, and it seems fairly lethargic, maybe from stress, but if someone could tell me what that means that would be nice
@misty_blue3 жыл бұрын
Wow that's great that you took in a rescue budgie 🥰 I'm glad I could help out! Sprite is a very cute name 😊 It's quite normal when they sit very quietly at first, especially females. They need to get used to the new surroundings. Some get more comfortable after a few days, some after a few weeks. Do you have spray millet? Putting a piece in the cage can really help her feel more comfortable. Sometimes it helps budgies to play a video of singing budgies (I like the one from Mango and Chutney), but it can also make them feel more stressed so be careful 🤭
@mittens27733 жыл бұрын
@@misty_blue She is a whole lot more active! We have her by the window right ow and she livened up and is chirping up a storm! @@misty_blue Good and bad news about her! We've named her Sprite, if we can't find her owner, which the bad part is it seems we may not, but we're gonna keep looking for a few days, anyway if we can't find them, we have a family friend with Three budgies, and a whole ROOM, and I mean BIG room just for the budgies, along with a giant cage, so she will be taken care of if we can or can't find the owner, for now she is destroying her egg/honey treat and dancing by the window! PS: There is a really good thing coming out of this We find baby birds that are way to small to have even atempted walking around our house, as well as injured birds, And because of this budgie, we have a cage and food for any bird that we need to take to our local society! Of course if we find a baby bird, we probably are going to treat it as such and give it something warm in the bottom for it to snuggle up with. Hell, we might even use the cage for any moles ,or other critters, that we need to move. So overall. This could not have been a better experince for us.

It's been a week since I got my baby Budgies. The caretaker at the store confused me all the more and in the end I ended up getting 3 males and 1 female. The 4 get along well but I'm still a little concerned of how they'll behave towards each other when they grow up.. are all the 3 going to literally attack my 1 female when and if they want to mate.
@misty_blue3 жыл бұрын
I think it's more likely that the female would attack the males, but if she has a quiet character, she might be fine with the males. Males generally have a soft character so they don't attack in a very aggressive way. If you had 2 females or more, the chance for fights is bigger, because females fight each other more often. Maybe the males fight each other to impress the female, but I doubt it will be very bad fights. I think your budgies will be fine 😊 In the end, some fighting is normal for budgies, it's how they communicate. You only need to watch out that they never become very aggressive.

@misty_blue3 жыл бұрын
Thanks 😊💕 Right, I forgot to explain 🤭 It is dangerous, especially for the female, because she can have problems with egg production. Eggs can get stuck in the vent or parts of unformed eggs can block the vent. In the worst case they could die because they cannot digest and poop normally anymore 😮 I am planning a video on it, because we had some personal experience with it (thank God our budgie survived!). It can also cause unhealthy offspring, because the parents are too young and they cannot give healthy eggs/seeds. Or, the parents don't take care of the eggs, because they don't know how yet. In short, budgies under 1 year old are underdeveloped and they still have to learn how to be parents.

@@misty_blue yes! But sad story is, i had 3 budgies, white, green and blue, the blue one was my favourite, we did not bought her, we found her. She was with me for like almost 1 month. But...we had an AC. The budgies cage was on the AC box, somehow the cage gate opens, we didn't see how that the gate opened, but when i went to the budgie cage, i saw my budgie were flying in front of the cage, trying to go in. I screamed and called my parents. My father tried to catch it, but it flew away...after she flew away, i cried like for a week, then 4-5 months later, my little bro was playing with white budgie and green budgie, he was stupid he opened the cage gate and hurt the green budgie, i didn't see but he comes to mother and tells her "mommy the green bird flew away!" Mother, i and my cousin was so surprised! Then i go near the cage and saw that the green budgie was not in the cage! I was so sad, me and my cousin tried find her, we tried to find her in our rooftop, outside but we never found her, i cried a lot. Now the white budgie is alone. A white hawk is a predator and eats small birds like budgies. Budgies stretch their wings either to relax or to prepare for flight when they think they might need to flee.

@@YourFriendlyLion I think hawks and other birds of prey generally don't attack humans because they see them as above them. They know they cannot really be stronger than humans and they also cannot eat them, so they avoid attacking them. They attack small animals like birds, mice and such. Not just to attack, but mainly to eat them. They also eat eggs. I definitely would keep your budgies in the cage when there is a large bird like that there.

Very young budgies have rings all the way to their cere - Baby budgies have a more high pitched voice and they still need to learn how to sing - Baby budgies have a white, pinkish or light blue cere They are adults at about 8 months old.

I have the same bath for my birds lol they love it, also what if they aren't breathing heavy or stressed, but open their beaks slowly while blinking slow; is that a bad sign or am I worried about nothing?
@misty_blue3 жыл бұрын
I heard that sometimes they open and close their beak slowly to 'adjust' their crop. Sometimes the little sack where they store and process their food, apparently kinda feels uncomfortable. And they can correct it by opening and closing their beak like that. I noticed mine do it after they eat sometimes. Maybe sometimes a seed or something else irritates them. I'm not an expert on it, but I heard that's one of the reasons. Others say that they sometimes get hiccups. I think it's not very serious. Maybe only if they do it constantly, then it might be something else.

Often it is because they're hormonal or they're molting. Then they can be more irritable and fight with others. Sometimes it's because they want to be the boss of the flock or because they simply don't like one or more birds in the flock. It really depends on the situation 😊

What will happen if you provide nest to budgies before they are a year old?
@misty_blue3 жыл бұрын
If the female tries to lay eggs before 1 years old, she can get health problems like getting the egg stuck (which needs surgery immediately or else she dies). It can also lead to calcium shortage, which is bad for their health. Or the parents get exhausted by the chicks because they're too young to have babies. Those are some things that could happen when they have a nest before they are 1 year old. Hope that helps 🤗

I need some advice. I have two budgies, Aqua and Sunflower, whom I got on February 15, 2021. They were already older, so they never learned any tricks. Sadly, Aqua passed away on July 15. After three days of Sunflower not eating, I got a young bird who followed her everywhere, but he also died on July 24, and I’m not sure why since he seemed healthy. That same day, I got another bird, but they don’t seem happy; they don’t bond or interact much. Aqua and Sunflower lived outside their cage for most of their lives, going out in the morning and coming back at sunset, which upset my mom because of the mess. After Aqua's death, my mom stopped letting them out, which might be why Sunflower seems unhappy. Sometimes I let Sunflower out, but she tries to get the new bird out too. When I do, he gets really stressed and flies around, which makes me put him back in the cage. Sunflower than comes down again and tries to go back in the cage , and their cage is too small. I’ve been looking for bigger cages like urs but can’t find any in my country. I give them greens, but lately, they won’t eat them, even though Sunflower used to love them. I really don’t know what to do.

@@Vepparia I’m sorry to hear about your budgies passing away! It can happen that the budgie that’s left behind gets quite sad. Maybe it helps your birds feel happier and more comfortable if you try a training routine (either click training or training with millet sprays). You can start very carefully, just spending time with them, offering them millet sprays without getting too close or making sudden movements. Some people also let their budgies have two small separate cages if they do not like sharing their cage. Maybe it sounds silly, but my budgies also like it when I sing to them 😋 And they are very happy when I give them cork wood to chew and when they have high places to sit (they feel safe somewhere high). So I place perches or cages somewhere high in the room. I hope you find out what works for your birds!

@misty_blue3 жыл бұрын
Do you have any idea how old they are? I've heard budgies should only breed between 1-3 years old. So that's the first thing to check 😊 One thing to try and tame them a bit is starting a training program (like click training) and move veeery slowly. The goal is not to teach tricks or anything, but to slowly encourage them to interact with you. If they are of the right age and they're relaxed and happy enough, then they also need to find each other attractive. I heard green is most attractive to females because it's the original color of budgies (before genetic change). But, the color is not all that matters. Their personalities should also be compatible. If all of those factors are right, then you could place a nest in the cage, because it encourages them to mate. The nest should be strong and high enough in the cage and the opening shouldn't be too big (they are afraid predators can get in). I've noticed they're more interested in mating when they have a lot of green things to eat. To them it's a sign that the season is good and that they have enough to feed the babies. I hope that helps 😊

@misty_blue3 жыл бұрын
Do you mean he's just sitting against the wall all day? Maybe he is scared or he needs extra stimulation. Budgies are very social so they need other birds or humans to interact with them. Otherwise they just sit quietly all day. You could give foraging and chewing toys for stimulation, start training your budgie or play budgie sounds for him. Maybe that way he will become more comfortable and more lively.

any tips on what to do if the budgies don't like interacting with the owners
@misty_blue3 жыл бұрын
It takes a lot of patience. The more time you spend with them (of course always respecting their space), the more they will get used to you. Depending on the character of the bird, it can take weeks to months to years. One way to bond is by feeding food from your hand. Ours really like basil, spinach and coriander (and millet of course 😋). It's also important not to do things that scare them, like chasing them or touching them when they don't feel like it. They remember those moments and will not trust you. If possible, you can also try click training. It really made a difference for us with Blue.

Pls help me with a weekly diet plan for budgies, inorder for them to be healthy and happy
@misty_blue3 жыл бұрын
I think the first step in figuring out a diet for your budgies, is discovering what they want to eat. You can, for instance, take a new food every week and give them a little every day so they can get used to it. If they eat it, you can regularly feed that food to make their diet more diverse. If they don't like it, you can try another food. That's at least what I'm doing now. Our budgies don't like fruits so far, except for dried fruits. They do like herbs like basil, parsley and cilantro. And veggies like raw broccoli, cabbage and lettuce. I stopped giving lettuce however, because it's mainly water with no nutrition. It can give the birds diarrhea. I also tried kidney beans and corn and egg with crushed egg shell, but so far they haven't touched it. I'm planning on trying bird chop and/or budgie cookies. I've heard those recipes can really help with introducing different foods to budgies. Do your birds have a cuttlefish bone? It's important for their chalk intake 😊
