Since our first trip with our budgies, we always take them with us when we are going away for a night or longer. We even took them on a trip to the Netherlands for a week. They love it! 😊

In may I might go to Paris for 4 days I'm not sure how we would take them since we are probably going to fly and I'm not sure if I would bring the cage or what to do I'm only considering to take them because I would worry even though our neighbours will take good care of them and they might get lonely as I have heard budgies get attached to owners and they may think we abandoned them I'm not sure but still it's only October but if I did take them I would be out a lot and it would be equivalent to leaving them at home .

@@ChristmasDarkening yeah sometimes it can be very tricky 🙃 Personally I would only take our budgies when we travel by car. I think plane travel can be very stressful and sometimes they don't allow birds either (or you have to pay a lot per bird). I think as long as people check on them daily it's ok. The benefit of leaving them at home is that they are in their own territory. Of course, you have to do what fits you best, but that's my view on it ☺️

My new little guy Geoffrey seems to be ok, while I am at work during the day. I play with him in the morning, for half an hour or so, offer treats and talk to him. he has plenty of 'kit' in his large cage, and can see outside, hear the birds, and the peeps around my home go about their day. I leave the lamp on, and classical music. He seems to be fine, have not noticed any ill effects. I was home with him when I got him , every day for around 4 weeks. I actually think he is happy when I leave, he gets some peace lol. Still in the training stage - and of course we are guilty of projecting our own thoughts etc. Thinking they learn to fit in with a routine, and life as they find it. Of course I open the cage, and offer him 'outside' when i get home...he has only hopped out once, and wanted to get back in again. I am hoping with patience and time, he will get more confident. I like the fruit tree idea, brilliant. Still trying to get him to eat fresh veg etc...
@misty_blue
@misty_blue 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah we've noticed our birds also like their peace and quiet without us during the day 😋 Sounds like Geoffrey gets plenty of attention 😊 I think as long as you keep opening the cage for him every day he'll slowly get used to it. Same goes for the veggies. Ours didn't want to try anything at first, but I kept putting small amounts on their cage and one day they dared to taste it. Now they kind of understand that they can eat what I put on the cage. Though they never really eat the fruit 😋

I and my family have to leave for at least 10 days and the trip is not so stable like 2 days in a city, then again, some other city and so on. And the trip is to Hill stations... I have someone to take care of my budgies, not so much friendly, but my budgies know her. Please tell me what's a better option, to take them with us on a trip or to leave them in care of someone my budgies know??? Please tell me quickly as I have to decide within a week...
@misty_blue
@misty_blue 3 жыл бұрын
I think for a 10 day trip where you travel to several places it's better when you can leave them in their familiar environment with someone who cares for them. For longer trips where you stay in one place for weeks, I think taking them is better, as long as the drive is not too long of course (we did up to 3 hour drives so far). But for your trip it seems too much to put them in a travel cage several times and change locations, for only 10 days. It's good that your budgies know the person. Then I think they will be ok at home 😊 Hope that helps! Feel free to ask more! In our "budgie road trip" video you can also see how we took them with us, if you want to get a better idea of how that looks 😊 Here's the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gmjYl4OpirKaqpo

I've never heard of bird hotels, but there must be some of them in certain places. I don't know about where you live. Maybe you can search online for it? When we go away for a longer time, we take our budgies in a travel cage. But of course that only works in a car and when they don't get stressed. @misty_blue
@misty_blue 3 жыл бұрын
If possible, try to find someone who can check on them daily to see if they are ok and to refresh food and water. Otherwise provide many different types of foods that don't spoil, so they have enough. You can also place a honey stick or millet spray so they will have a favorite treat. Our budgies did not eat much when they were alone because they were sad, but they did eat from the honey stick and millet spray. Also provide enough water. We've noticed our birds are better at being alone now that we have four birds (instead of two). They entertain each other and feel less lonely. But of course you can't get more budgies so last minute 😋 It's definitely tricky to leave them home alone, but unfortunately sometimes it's unavoidable. Our budgies did survive 4 days alone, but they didn't eat much. When we came back, they ate a lot but then they threw up 😕 The next day they were ok though. I guess the trickiest part is preventing loneliness and depression. I thought about playing budgie sounds for them, but you would need a device that can play for hours without stopping. But it shouldn't play at night because it can disrupt their sleep. So, yeah, probably doesn't really work to play them budgie sounds for more than one day.

@misty_blue
@misty_blue 11 ай бұрын
Yes it’s possible when you do it well. We regularly do it with the three budgies we have. Because they are only three budgies, it’s easy to leave enough food and water for them for a longer time because they don’t eat and drink that much. We leave them enough food and water for a week or something and then we have someone who goes out to check on them every couple of days. They might add some food and change the water, but other than that our budgies are able to survive without us 😊

@misty_blue
@misty_blue 2 жыл бұрын
How long are you going? And how many birds do you have? Do you have a travel cage and have you ever used it? Sorry for all the questions 🤣 To know the best option I need a bit more information 🤭 I think many budgies can handle a 3 hour drive (we also did it several times) and some birds even like it. It's important that they have a comfortable travel cage where they can sit in a stable way. We stayed from one week to ten days at holiday homes and they really liked it. But now we have 14 birds so it's too many to travel with. We've got family living in the same city who will be feeding the birds daily when we travel. It's different per personal situation what's the best option ☺️ One thing I recently discovered, is that fresh ginger can help against road sickness. When you give it the night before you travel it can really help. The recipe I saw was fresh ginger tea, diluted with water (50/50).

What about when you’re on a plane? How would you deal with that?
@misty_blue
@misty_blue 3 жыл бұрын
Planes are quite tricky. Not all airlines allow you to take budgies. Some countries like New Zealand do not allow people to take birds into the country (to protect their native birds). Sometimes it's possible to take your budgies on a plane, but they usually ask a lot of money for it. So it would be expensive. It can also be very stressful for the birds. So it's important to know if they can handle it. In theory, it's possible to travel with budgies on a plane, but not for every country and it might take a lot of effort and money.

Why are my budgies so afraid of everything like literally I put a newspaper near or in front of them they are scared... What to do??
@misty_blue
@misty_blue 3 жыл бұрын
How long have you had your budgies? It's normal that budgies are scared the first days up to months. Some adjust faster than others. It's also in their nature to be cautious around any creatures that are bigger than them, because they are prey animals. When they get more used to you, they usually become less scared though. My budgies got used to newspaper since they see it all the time in their cage. But it did take some months before they got used to it. Whenever you introduce new things, try to not move abruptly. And give them plenty of time to get used to things. Especially larger objects are scary to them.

@@harsh-oq8ug are they scared all the time or only at particular moments? Our Misty was also scared for a year or maybe even longer. Since we got two new budgies and they have their own room she is less scared. Sometimes she still gets scared when I do something in the cage, but not as bad as before. Some birds also get scared when they're always in a busy/noisy room. Sometimes they need some quiet time alone to relax. But there could be many reasons why your budgies are scared.

Hello Sir, I'm from India. Can I take my budgie with me for a 8 hours long travel with bus?😭 Please reply me kindly. Thank you.
@misty_blue
@misty_blue 3 жыл бұрын
Personally I think my budgies would be too stressed on a bus for 8 hours (unless there are not many people on the bus and it's not noisy and hot). But I've never taken my budgies on a bus so I can't be 100% sure. It also depends on how nervous your budgies are and what they are used to. And if they can sit comfortably in a cage that is the right size. Sorry I can't really answer a clear yes or no. But maybe considering these factors can help you make a decision. What our budgies hate when traveling is tunnels (because they don't like darkness) and many bumps in the road. In a quiet car and on quite straight roads they kind of enjoy traveling.
