In pillows cage I would recommend putting more foraging toys in his cage with lots of finger traps and crinkle paper because I saw him chewing on stuff.

It’s Steph offer them some millet or some kind of treat that they enjoy, don’t pressure them into eating it though! And in most occasions, budgies tend to enjoy their own kind more than us humans, they’ll possibly be distracting one another when you’re trying to get them to enjoy your presence.

Sand perches are not too good for birds. They can get sores, and infections, and even a piece from the perch can get stuck under their feet and they will need surgery to get if removed. There are good sand perches on Amazon that are smooth on top and don’t irritate their feet. And are rough on the sides. Also try to not use too many reflective or plasticy toys because with reflective toys they can get hormonal and attached to the toy. Try to mainly have shredding toys. Like with natural material like palm leaves, wood, yucca wood ina bird kabob, paper and just things they can shred. Otherwise I think the size of your cage is good for one budgie.

I agree with everything you have said just adding on that foraging toys are also a great option and less plastic toys would be great!!! I'm not sure about the cage size i would recommend a larger one but it is better than lots so your budgie gets enough exercise outside of it's cage i guess it's not bad

i would recommend a larger cage for your cockatiel and your budgie (they should have room to fly to each perch) remember bird toys should be destroyable for your parrot. I would also recommend more shredding toys and foraging toys and perhaps less plastic. I also highly recommend looking online for more natural bird toys that can be destroyed by your bird. planet pleasures is a good example of a website that you can get good bird toys from.

i agree pet shops don't sell very good parrot toys that are both healthy and enjoyable for your bird so i do recommend shopping online and making them yourself another website i use is parrotjoy

Cool video, thanks for the tour! I would probably have cleared out or at least moved one or two toys hanging from the ceiling, so Pillow can have a flightpath in there on the off chance he has to stay inside for a while. He looks happy healthy and content anyways tho!

Rope perches are dangerous for some birds..my cockatiel passed away from rope stuck in its crop ..keep a watch :)
@chantelleharris3408
@chantelleharris3408 3 жыл бұрын
yes rope perches can be dangerous not all parrots chew on them but some do it is a good idea to regularly cheek that your rope perch is not been torn apart by your bid because many birds do pass away because of consuming the fibers on the rope perch i think it is better to be safe than sorry and avoid rope perches in general unless you get ones that are made with natural fibers.

You shouldn't have sand paper perches in your bird's cage. It irritates their feet, and scratches them up, and if anything gets in those wounds, it can lead to infection. It's basically the equivalent to you walking on sandpaper with your bear feet. No hate or anything

Nice set up! I have those natural perches in my babies' cages too! :D I also have a ladder in my 'tiel's cage & 3 in my budgie's. My budgie Cookie likes to sit on the one ladder & put the bell from his favorite toy (that hangs right next to it) on his head. XD It was fun watching my 'tiel Gilbee learn how to go up & down his ladder, which connects a ledge in his cage to the bottom of the cage. At first he could only go up the ladder, but after a while he got brave enough to try going down. It took as long as it did as he had fallen off the ledge a couple of times when he first got the cage. XD Now he zooms up & down it. XD While Cookie flies in hsi cage, Gilbee doesn't. I think it's cuz his first cage wasn't big enough to do that. XD Even when he comes out, he prefers to just sit on my shoulder, except if I sit on the sofa then he flies back to his cage. XD

You might have to change the rope perch because the little strings that are on it, you can eat that, and then his it could get him really hurt.

His cage looks so amazing and has a great variety of perches! I have two suggestions though. The sand paper perched are pretty rough as you stated, and they can cause bumble foot on their feet. But, since it’s near the water dish I think it should be fine. Just make sure to rotate it in and out. Another suggestion is to maybe stuff some millet or treats inside those balls so he can forge :)

Thanks for sharing Pillows cage. I wish natural branches were more abundant for small pet birds, meaning easier to prepare, are they really that harmful, as some information out there, suggests or would just a visual inspection and a good rinsing suffice? Makes me think to check out with a botanist KZbinr or science channel?
@ashleytam2986
@ashleytam2986 4 жыл бұрын
I also heard you can bake outdoor branches if you want to use them to kill the bacteria and pesticides
@budgieyy
@budgieyy 4 жыл бұрын
Ashley T. True, thank you. I shall try that. ‘But, if only someone sold nice branches locally like from an arborist or fruit tree farm, where parrot owners could go and pick out a nice healthy branch, then they would cut it to size for you. Many, people are busy or just don’t have the knack for do it yourself, but have parrots. For people who live in apartments, in a city, it’s not so easy to get a branch. I am not brave to ask an arborist or fruit tree farm, would be an unusual request.
