I have an aviary with budgies and have been keeping them many years. Most of mine live to about 10 - 15 years old. The only times they die younger is if they get into some random accident, attacked by a cat or get a random digestive disease.

I got my 1st budgie who is male at a flee market he wasn't really in a good cage and he was squished in with other birds he's turning 3 and gets to fly all over the house and surprisingly I've been doing the steps in this video without even knowing it Edit: They also clipped his wings but at least he was able to go outside with me till the feathers grew back

Excellent video!! My budgie is 5 months old and is out of her cage pretty much all day. She has many playstations throughout the house and utilizes them all. She also loves her bath, she jumps in the sink when I run the water for her and splashes about. I like what you said about foraging, I must do this. She does love her veggies (kale, romaine lettuce, carrot greens, celery and broccoli) but she really doesn't care for fruits.

@@BudgieWorld She has had a big personality from the time I got her from the breeder at 6 weeks. I give her veggies everyday as well as pellets and seed. Lately she has started flying to the floor (to forage I assume). Should I put some seeds on the floor for her to forage? I don't like her being on the floor as I always thought that it was not safe, but she has no fear in her at all. There is no reason for her not to check out the floor so is it a good idea to put food down there or should I just leave it at her playstations?

@@budgiemom8345 you don't have to do that on the floor, I mean I did it because I have a grass which they have to look for the seeds in order to get it, just think of other ways, btw you can also teach her some tricks (you know if she did something you give her a treat is some type of foraging as well) anyway I will talk about this topic later on, when I get the chance :)

I have a male and a female green budgie. I got them about 3 months ago. I watched your video about knowing their age, and notice their irises appear 100% yellow about 3 weeks ago so I would assume their 9 months old! It has been a challenge getting them to eat fruit and I have yet to veggies. They tasted apple, however. I give them showers and plan on making them a bigger cage myself!

Is a little bit cautious of you, and a bit scared? Don't worry, it's usual. Give him 2 weeks or so to adapt to the new place. It is very rare that they are confident before atleast 2 weeks.

Superb 💖 💖 💖 I'm following above all of them ☺ My budgies will be out of the cage (full day of 12 hrs 6:30 AM to 6:30 PM) flying independently & happily inside my room, which is bird proofed. They party all the day with wide varieties of food, like there's no tomorrow lol along with this they strictly gets 12 hours (6:30 PM to 6:30 AM) of good night sleep in a separate sound free room. Totally I have kept so natural cycle as possible. Besides that they gets all natural enrichments as well 💖

@Sowmya Cherry Yup, I got this tip from an Australian avian vet & this is also followed by few UK based people, who is successful to keep their birds healthy & longer. this is very effective way to extend the lifespan of any birds. Because birds don't switch on the lights & party all the night & sleep all the day, it's pretty common sense right we don't even realize it until we get notice it.

I feel the same, I can't even imagine my life without the presence of budgies 💖 people need to know how important is to know about the requirements of birds, no matter whether if it's a big one or small. All birds required the same amount of care & attention.usually people don't understands that, especially here in India ahh! God! You know that right ? How badly they treat them, just a small traveling cage with single type of foxtail millet & that's it, nothing else, unfortunately they don't even comes out of the cage, no exercise, no entertainment, no nutritional requirements & people expect them to live longer, is it really possible ? People need awareness & education in all the way. I really feel sorry for their budgies. I try my best to explain them as much as possible but rest is up to them. Anyways, One of my budgie exactly look alike your budgie, I call her "leafy" she is 2.4 years old.

this is so helpful I love how u have ur cage set up but I only have one budgie and there isnt the most room in the cage for all the branches and toys (its not a tiny cage lol)

Natasha Lee you don’t need a all the toys in the cage at once, just take two perches and put one above and the other below the higher one, and hang one toy on top of the cage, and store the rest, so you can change them out instead of keeping the same toy in the cage, and make sure to have cuttlebone

Hello! I live in Portugal and the temperatures here in the winter go very low. Should I provide them with a place to bath even in the cold weather, or should I wait for summer and spring? Oh and I don't exactly know how old they are but by the eyes, I'd say they're between 8 and 14 months. A friend of mine had one that lasted 17 years though.
