I wish I can plug a USB cable into this guy and download everything he knows... He is that good at explaining things straight to the meat and potatoes without unnecessary bla, bla, bla and loud music as others... God Bless you Bro and hope you are doing well!!!

Have you had any issues with Dyneema stretching as the temperature drops? It has a negative temperature coefficient; lengthens as it gets colder.

The weight factor , dynema is way lighter than ss .

What type or version of dyneema are you using? Once I tightened mine to final tension, I've only tweeked it once in 18 months - half turn of turn buckle. We don't use lashings.

Don't remember exact type or version but do remember it made by NZ company bought through Discount Marine in Wellington. Main questions I needed answered when buying was breaking strength and % static. There is cheaper stuff out there claiming 95% static. It's worth paying more for 97%. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Rod Shehan I am wanting to replace my standing rigging with 10mm dyneema, having now heard you can use stainless steel turnbuckles I am interested to know how you are finding that setup, and what you might recommend for someone wanting a similar setup?

I have been considering synthetic, but not anymore. Now I am sure, you convince me. :-) I liked the idea of using "shrink-hose". Would you still use it if you had access to hot air that not so easily burn your rope? Thank you for your informative videos. Subscribed!

Yes. If you have way to shrink tubing without hurting dyneema, I'd use it. Thanks and good luck.

I would think that in many cases, there would not really be any need to heat-shrink the tubing, and from what I've seen, it tends to gradually shrink anyway over time and exposure to sunlight and warm conditions. The nice thing about rigging tape would be that you can add or replace it any time without needing to slide it over the end of the line. In some cases, as in the stanchion, you would need a little slack to be able to wrap in that area.

Hey mate josue here. I wonder if you have tried to impact a tightened section of dyneema. Not many people has the experience of what could chafe or cut dyneema rigging.

Good question. First of all, everything chafes dyneema; even other dyneema. For impact test: as you can see I do not keep stays guitar string tight. Given that, most significant impact on tightened dyneema stay that I can recall would have been during jibe in Port Pegasus south Stewart Island in 45 knots of wind gusting higher. Clearance between end of mainsail boom and forward mizzen stay is only a centimeter or less. During jibe, odd rocking of waves caused mizzen mast to bend forward such that end of boom slammed mizzen stay very hard catching in aluminium piece welded to end. That was pretty hard impact and only way I could free boom was to jibe back. Damage to dymeema? None I can see.
