Buffalo National River - June 2024

A kayak trip on the lower sixty miles of the Buffalo River in northern Arkansas over five days. We put in at Tyler Bend and took out at Rileys Outfitter in Buffalo City on the White River. The Buffalo River Float Service shuttled our cars. The weather was mostly sunny, hot and muggy. The river was rated low but floatable. Our outfitter described it as "boney".
A word of caution about paddling on the White River. Just upstream of Buffalo City is Bull Shoals Dam; a facility used for hydroelectric power production. Dam releases are unpredictable. The current is strong and the water cold. Crossing the White River can be problematic.
