Buffalo River Trail Thru Hike: Day 1

The Buffalo River Trail is in the Ponca Wilderness Area located in northwest Arkansas. This is day one of my thru hike. Boxley trailhead, Mike 0, to mile 18.6

Great video. Glad you enjoyed your hike. The shuttle service in the area is a little bit weird. I've used it several times and never had any issues in case any of your viewers are hesitant. All of the concessioners we've used have been good folks and it's worked seamlessly. I recommend either Lost Valley Canoe or Buffalo Outdoor Center. Seeing you up on that hill without enough water was painful. At about mile 17, just before you start climbing the hill, there is a dried out creek bed. Just before that is sign that marks "Primitive trail". If you go down that trail to the left about 100 yards there is a spring down that way. I've never seen in dry. Nice little campsite there too. That area is also less than a mile from the river so it would for sure be accessible there too. Glad you made it through the night ok and could refill at Kyles.

When you were going through some of the really dry areas I was thinking if that was here I would have had gaiters to the knee on, rarely we hike bush in summer due to snakes and heat. Then you talked about the poor dog, so I guess they are about everywhere. Looking forward to your next Day :) Stay safe. Greetings from Australia. :)
