I'm that old, too, and this song still makes me cry every time. Buffalo Springfield was amazing, and their music lives on.

Me too. Every time, it makes me weep. I think about a girl I used to know. Okay, gonna go crawl into a ball for a few minutes. I'll be fine lol.

I hear that! Makes me remember my first heartbreak. As the song goes, the first cut is the deepest @@chompachangas

@@suzedequeAh early Cat Stevens classic. His first single was called I Love My Dog 🐶 and I think it has violin 🎻

Neil was about 21 or 22 years old when this song was done. Very good stuff very early from him. Mr. Soul was on the same album and is really great.

About this time Neil was diagnosed with epilepsy so maybe the second verse refers to this also. Certainly his song Flying on the Ground is Wrong was about that. The signs of Neils imminent split from the band are there on this album with him pretty much doing his songs on his own.

My favorite Springfield song... classic Neil Young

This folk rock band was formed in 66-68. It included Stephen Stills & Neil Young. "For What It's Worth" was their biggest hit & is considered a protest song. The group disbanded in 1968. Stephen Stills went on to form the supergroup Crosby, Stills & Nash with David Crosby of the Byrds and Graham Nash of The Hollies. Neil Young launched his solo career and later joined Stills in Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young in 1969.

The concept of flying was a common metaphor for Neil, always in the context of dealing with a breakup. The only problem with this song is that it's too damn short. Second the recommendation for Mr Soul. It's a rocker with some killer guitars, and mysterious lyrics that his fans can debate. It contains some references to his condition (epilepsy) and also aims some sarcasm at fans who thought he was weird.

Another influential folk-rock band from this time was Fairport Convention. Try listening to "Who Knows Where the Time Goes."

This song in some ways summed up the optimism “we can change the world” vibe of the late 60s after things didn’t work out all that well.
