I've lived here for 20 years. Originally from Texas. Winters here can be rough, but now I'm used to it. If you visit here, go west on hwy 16 and when you get outside of town, on your left you will pass by the Veterans Home of Wyoming. It used to be an old army fort from the 1800's. Visitors are welcome.

Thank you for the very nice tour of Buffalo, where I attended fifth grade during the winter of 1949. We had horses to attend to every morning before I went to school when there was school. You didn't mention it, but Buffalo is at the eastern foot of the Bighorn Mountains, a not-well-known mountain range with a summit altitude (Cloud Peak) of more than 13,000 feet above sea level.

Joe, gotta say that as someone who THOUGHT he knew his 'stuff' insofar as cities and towns throughout much of the US, your niche seems to be finding infrequently talked about (or even known) quaint towns that have that 'Americana' feel to them. And the history, architecture surrounding those towns makes your tour(s) relaxing and enjoyable. Thanks a lot!

I was in Buffalo, Wy. Twice in my life. First time in 1962 with the Boys Scouts. There was a public swimming pond with a diving platform. The next time was in 1974. My car needed a rest, so I went for a walk with this feeling that I had been there before and sure enough I found that same swimming pond with the diving platform. I’m google earthing it now and can’t find it. Oh well. Things change in 50 years.

Joe, the car in the river (creek) was probably placed there purposely to protect that corner from erosion to keep the adjacent road stable. I have seen that done in the hills of Utah in my boyhood in the '60s which would be correct as that car was from the late 40's to early 50's. Another very good video. That hotel / bar was very interesting. The plaster work on the ceiling would be very difficult to duplicate today because it is a lost art. The houses in town were also interesting and quite eclectic. Living there however would be challenging as the big city is quite a drive in any direction. I live remote here at Canyon Lake, however the 7th largest city in America (SA) is a 1/2 hour drive away. For Buffalo, Wyoming that is not the case. The winters are also quite severe. After the 1st winter many people leave Wyoming because it is just too difficult. I'd rather deal with the Texas heat. You don't have to shovel heat but you do have to shovel snow. I don't see many people wanting to live there. A nice place to visit but not a place to winter at.

Long time since I’ve been through any part of it back in my trucking days after retirement from the marine corps. And again I’ll say I love it there but those folks are just way tougher than me anymore when it comes to winter. LoL 😂 beautiful town seemed quite and peaceful. I’m sure it has some busier times. Great scenery. Like those little houses that little green one would be plenty for me and my best little buddy. Would love to have a meal or a drink in that hotel bar. My kinda place. Love the old decor just beautiful. And I imagine that was a tin celling there. I’m not one to live in town but if I did I’d look for a neighborhood like you showed. I like the fact that they don’t look the same. I just don’t like those suburbs where all the houses look exactly alike only difference is the number on em. This has really been quite a trip. Hopefully I’ll get to do similar before long. It’s in the plan anyway. Thanks again great job guys. Safe travels my friend. Keep filming and I’ll keep watching

Love this! I live in Gillette-68 miles east of Buffalo and visit the area and mountains frequently. For your question about the salmon. About the only type of fish in the creeks there are going to be trout-brook trout, rainbow trout, maybe a cutthroat now and then but no salmon. Buffalo’s city pool is iconic and is filled by Clear creek. Used to be river rock bottom back in the day but has been remodeled to cement now. It’s in a beautiful city park just west of downtown. Buffalo is the town the Netflix series “Longmire” is based on and by author, Craig Johnson’s many novels. I could go on and on about Buffalo and the surrounding area!! ❤

The junk cars in the river were probably a quick and dirty way to control erosion. When my family moved to Nebraska in '71, I rode my bicycle down to the river and stripped parts out of erosion control cars on the river bank. They have since been cleaned up. Turns out the oil from the cars kills fish. Imagine that.

Well howdy pardner, thanks for taking me back to Buffalo! (I was there back in August) It's a great place to visit; nice folks, historic downtown and museum, cool murals, the once-largest public swimming pool in the west...what more can you ask? The town is proud of being the setting of the TV show "Longmire" -- they have a celebration every summer in the sheriff's honor. (This despite the majority of the series being filmed in and around Las Vegas NM 🙂) I'm sure you decided to dine at the Occidental because of of it's history, but if you ever make it back to Buffalo I'd recommend The Bozeman Trail Steakhouse. Happy trails!

Hi Joe Thanks a lot for showing this tiny beautiful old wild west town of Buffalo, WY. I liked the town very much so there will be 2/3 more revisions of the video. Occidental Hotel n Saloon is phenomenal brimming with wild west history. The murals on walls in Town are attending catching. Montana, Wyoming, North n South Dakota are historically rich with old wild west culture abound and truly speaking one patch of land culturally same. However I just wonder you crossed imaginary geographical boundary between Montana and entered WY. I don't know whether the name 'WYOMING' itself has any magnetic attraction in it. Whatever I read, viewed and imagined about Wyoming I wrote 'Song of Wyoming' describing it's land, people and culture without paying a visit to the state. The song is copyrighted. Since you are entering North Dakota the excitement heightens. Waiting. Good Luck!

I was living in Pierre, South Dakota in my mid 20s and I remember walking though the city and beginning to notice the - often common and humble - older houses and their interesting and creative form and details, more beautiful, more interesting and more creative than the modern architect-designed buildings I was trained to appreciate in architecture school; and I began to equally appreciate the pre-modern civic and commercial buildings in the city (I particularly remember the quiet classical serenity of the WW1 memorial building there). I share and appreciate your eye for older houses and buildings - they truly are a superior kind of architecture.

I worked in an around Buffalo for four years on the pipeline. Really good fishing in the mountains at Tie Hack and good motor cycle riding. Sheridan is also a cool place
