I used most of these when I lifted back in School my Freshman to Senior years. Even my football couch asked why I was doing them and how did I even know about them. I tried to get the other guys on my team to do these, but most said they didn't want to. (I spent at least an hour in the gym after school, even after football practice, no one else wanted to meet me even halfway).Using these exercises I was also easily the strongest man at my school when I graduated.

great video dudes! I would like to add something on that last part about pullovers, since the pulling action naturally produces a stretch in your abdomen, if you notice it, it causes you to attain a natural vacuum, which is again a great sign of that 'old school' physique. always add pullover to your chest/back routines.
@NelsonMontana12346 жыл бұрын
Nice take on the old school stuff. When I was writing for the mags I used to bring this stuff up but a lot of people weren't ready for it. Now, it's trendy. And a lot of guys do it wrong. You got it right. Well done. Let's see more! Roman chair and frog situps. Barbell hacks. Close grip pull-ups. Incline laterals. Standing incline curls. Barbell kickbacks, et al. That's the stuff that works!

Kilo Foxtrot But the purpose of this video is was more about covering a few old school exercises that are more forgotten and not currently practiced as commonly as they once were. Where as the push up is a very well known common exercise that even people who don't exercise know what it is.
@kilofoxtrot45948 жыл бұрын
c0dy1287 the truth is that most of the people does not do them. They concentrate more on weights especially people who are not beginners anymore. But it's a great mistake from their part. There's a lot of people out there who chan bench press 200 kg but they cannot correctly execute 100 push Ups in a row all day till they do 2000 per day. Nor they can do 120 in 60 seconds. You should bend and do 100 push Ups instead of making excuses come on quick!

Its a great excersise to warmup your shoulders. You should never go heavy with that....
@pauka138 жыл бұрын
Yes I absolutely agree with that. I do this excersise for warmup only 2 sets of 10 reps with the barbell only without having plates on it. I also have weak shoulder joints so I have to take care not to overload them. This helped me to improve a bit my shoulder mobility too. Btw the same goes to the behind the neck lat pulldown... Lot of people do that but it really can fck up the shoulder joints.

I see a lot of people joking about this in the comments.I believe in this old school training,it’s no joke,I have always done pullovers,and they work great,I get a great stretch and also feel my triceps getting stretched.Today everyone is concerned about lifting heavy low reps.When at the gym I watch ego heavy is better training,I see big guys throwing heavy weights around,no form no negatives,just swing the weight around impressing the girls,and posting Facebook pictures of their macho heavy Superman lifts.They don’t realize the benefits of getting the pump,using medium heavy for 12 reps with strict form,or doing a old fashion full body workout every other day,instead all you hear about is I did my chest today,tomorrow I’ll hit the biceps triceps,and the next day legs etc.not realizing the split routine fad came from steroid users that were in recovery as they were still working out,some could workout arms twice a day,because the steroids were allowing them to workout different body parts all week long,and also allowing them to do extra sets for each body part,it takes a whole week to do that split routine.A natural bodybuilder in the 50s and 60s would train the whole body every other day,3 or 4 times a week,as time goes on and you get the proper rest,(God made the body to rest as a whole unit on recovery day,)you begin to also get conditioned,and you now have more endurance to add sets to your full body workout (your body will tell you when you start going into overtraining if you are doing too many sets on a body part)and you can up the poundage as you can do over 12 reps with the weight you were using)and you can do a couple of low set Superman poundage type compound exercises Bench squats deadlifts during same workout to satisfy those that like to go heavy(it all fits together in one full body workout)plus when you get more endurance you can super set,decrease rest time and get your aerobics in at the same time.Complete package doing 3 or 4 every other day full body workout.You are now getting the proper recovery,you are not sparking up the anabolic switch on rest days like the split routine does(confusing the body’s recovery process)the body is happy on rest days not having to put the switch on again,the body parts don’t get overtrained(overlapping the muscles trying to recover,but you just brought them back into action trying to isolate the muscle your training as the resting muscle must help stabilize your movement)The best part is the gains and how the blood with all the nutrients is going through your whole body in harmony in one workout session,you get a awesome pump,you get to start out easy and you are getting conditioning like a triathlon athlete,without overdoing crazy hours of aerobics that effect your muscle building energy sources.Try this out see how you like it,this is how Steve Reeves,Bill Pearl,John Grimick etc built classic balanced aesthetic body’s without killing themselves doing it.

I workout 6 days a week from Monday to Saturday. Monday/Thursday: Shoulders, Chest, and Triceps and Abs. Tuesday/Friday: Traps, Back, Biceps, Forearms and Abs. Wednesday/Saturday: Legs and Abs. I always do 5 sets of either 8 or 12 reps. For upper body I always do an extra 2 reps on the last set. For legs I do an extra 5 on the last set. Been using that program for 7 months now and keeping improving despite what most people say: "You have to change your program every 3 months or your muscles will get 'bored' and stop progressing."

Zercher squats are good way to tear your biceps. There's a reason people don't do them, just play it safe and stick to regular back squats.

Hi Zercher squats are great.

Hey, I really like these, already doing drag curls occasionally, but there's some really good alternatives in here which I'm not doing - will make for a good change-up in the routine. Thanks for this great video !

Kind of bummed I knew all of these. Surely there's some obscure old exercises that the carnival strongmen did back in the day?
@hollandfocus8 жыл бұрын
tko4051 one handed snatch, kettle bells, standing bench/push press and they all were crippled by the time they were 35.... I'd suggest you go with modern physiological movements over what circus guys who were no bigger than your average gym rat used to do

Bent press. Why didn't they include bent press? Edit: Jefferson deadlift too.

Loved this. Had to subscribe. The exercises look awesome. My belly dance teachers have drilled the vacuum in my head for years to help undulate better. Who knew bodybuilders were doing it too. I will be incorporating all these exercises in my workouts. Thank you for sharing.

Zercher squat is the ultimate joint destroyer
@zcombe28 жыл бұрын
How does it destroy your joints?
@trialerror50808 жыл бұрын
Jonathan Phillips do you really think applying vertical force on an elbow is a clever thing to do? Really?
@zcombe28 жыл бұрын
I think the body is pretty tough, and can learn to withstand most things you throw at it (but not everything). If you look around you'll find some people can zercher squat massive weights: if it was dangerous I'm sure they'd fall apart. So unless you can give me a decent medical explanation for why it's dangerous, I'll assume my elbow will hold together fine. Why wouldn't it?
@trialerror50808 жыл бұрын
Jonathan Phillips you're welcome to try. I'm not going to waste my time explaining anything to a person who insist on not understanding the simple "don't force the joint improperly" rule.

Hayvan Adam I don't get how it's bad. It's an isometric contraction isn't it? It's not a unnatural angle?

There is a reason we aren't doing them... Cause injury
@MedievalSolutions8 жыл бұрын
MrMushroomish but injuries happen if you are dumb and or misinformed.

And some of these excercises are pretty dumb
@Zockanumber18 жыл бұрын
Richard Decker you shouldn't be so arrogant injuries can happen to anyone
@MedievalSolutions8 жыл бұрын
Zockanumber1 outside of gym, yes. Inside of gym, nah man, only misinformed(or dumb - because trying out stupid shit, that can injure you... is in my opinion the definition of being dumb) can get injured by weightlifting.
@zcombe28 жыл бұрын
Don't worry, when you've recovered, you can do cool exercises too. Seriously, why do you think they're dangerous?

Lol, how about we bring back the squats and deadlifts first.
@crisrody8528 жыл бұрын
Don't listen to him, Squats and Deadlifts are some drugs that I heard about someguys are usying This shit is terrible, They only make the legs big, what kind of roid only work on legs? O.o And besides of that, I always heard about the pain that those shit causes, don't go that way kido
@crisrody8528 жыл бұрын
They are easy to stop in the gym, the guys who use little shorts to show theyr hairy legs. They are always in some weird women machine., that I think works to create kitchen skills.

Rusty Blade I think they are not good. They look they are reducing the blood flow to your forearms
@rustyblade93668 жыл бұрын
more than that, they look extremely painful. almost dangerous. how can you even have any weight on like that? no thanks, regular squats for me
@1mackdavis8 жыл бұрын
pretty sure its lighter weight and higher reps then a regular squat thoooo both definitely have their benefits
Loved this video! Yes, make pullovers great again!! I’ve just added them into my routine, they take a while to get used to but they are really satisfying and underrated!
