1:43 - Fun fact; this is an actual thing. Ants follow one another using pheromones. If they lose the line, like if a leaf falls in front of them, they'll try to find the line again but will end up in a death spiral where all of the ants involved will walk around in a circle following each other until they die.

They have their share of dark, morbid deaths. Both Pixar and Disney. Old franchises mostly, but new ones too. [Spoilers ahead] They get away with it because. Of course they do. Who in their right mind is gonna sue Disney? Coming to mind is the Tarzan villain death scene where he accidentally gets himself hung. We see only the shadow, however it was scientifically correct, like, you're supposed to drop from high with the noose on, so your neck snaps and you don't choke to death slowly. I remember that's what happened there too, he snapped his neck. The Princess and the Frog has an interesting scene too. The villain is dragged to the spirit realm kicking and screaming for his life. I remember Pinnochio as well. The villain straight up has no punishment. But you see Lampwick's walk into panic and horror as he gets turned into a donkey 'till the point he loses discernment and just panics like… a donkey. Multiple heroes died before Mr. Incredible's new entrance into the crime fighting scene. We don't get to know about how they died, for too many of them, but we do know that _his family and Frozone are the only ones left alive._ Also, Syndrome got killed because he had a cape. He got _dragged into a turbine._ [I might be misremembering this one, but someone definitely did get sucked into a plane turbine.] This one didn't happen, but we got a scare in Toy Story 3 where we were misled into thinking the whole main cast was gonna get incinerated alive. For like 30 seconds. Didn't actually happen but I'm sure enough kids cried in panic at theaters for that one. In Tangled, Mother Gothel died from instantly aging into dust. We usually don't decompose when dying because our bodies are embalmed. Obviously, she didn't get embalmed. Hercules himself almost gets aged into a spirit if I recall correctly. If anyone wants to get me up to date with any of the movies following The Incredibles 2, it'd be cool. But I certainly won't be rewatching the entire back catalogue just for completeness' sake of this comment. Also, please tag spoilers. I definitely do want to watch the newer movies myself. I'm a child at heart.

1:53 Not really. Ants are extremely social animals, and rely on their antenna to sense out the pheromone trail left by other ants to know where to go. He's panicking because the leaf cut him off from the pheromone trail. That's also why he didn't want to go around the leaf, because it's brand new ground with no pheromones.

This Pixar movie is underrated IMO. Maybe it’s nostalgia talking, but I loved this as a kid. Fun Fact: This is the film sparked the feud between Disney and DreamWorks because the latter’s film, Antz, had a concept similar to A Bug’s Life. Even to this day, people still debate on which film was better between Antz and this and while I haven't seen the former yet, I can tell from some stills that this film's animation is aging far better than that of the former.

It wasn't just that it sparked it. It was the direct cause. A founder of Dreamworks, Jeffrey Katzenberg, used to work for Pixar but after a falling out, he was forced to resign. He then co-founded Dreamworks to directly compete with Disney. And he took the basis of the script for Bug's Life with him since it was in development. Or something similar. Either way, Jeffrey admitted to stealing the basis of Bug's Life and then used it as the basis for Antz. Then it went further than that since both companies then competed to try and release it before the other, moving up the release dates. While Bug's Life was more commercially successful, both Antz and Bug's Life basically received the same critical success.

Two problems that could have been easily solved in this movie 1. The grasshoppers (but a long time ago I mean) When Hopper said they had a few months left before the last leaf falls, imagine that to be about three months, so ninety days. Ants can travel at least two miles a day with food and rest breaks, sometimes farther, especially if they have a good purpose for traveling. So if they just migrated the whole colony elsewhere, they could go probably at least two hundred miles by the time Hopper and the others returned to snatch more food. All they would find is an empty abandoned underground colony space. Also keep in mind that we're thinking of miles in human proportions. Grasshoppers are like fifty times smaller than us, so it wouldn't be too far fetched to consider that two hundred miles to be more like ten thousand miles for a grasshopper. What are the odds the grasshoppers would ever find those ants again? They could dedicate the rest of their lives with a vengeance to finding the ants and die before they even got halfway in the correct direction, flying or not. 2. When PT Flea returns and reveals the bugs are really a circus act, they could have all saved face there by acting out a quick improvisation. They could have just said "PT, we aren't circus bugs anymore! Those were the old days. We decided to become warrior bugs! We don't entertain crowds anymore...we fight! And we were hired by this colony of ants to help them fight those murderous psychopath grasshoppers!" Just make it look convincing, and nobody----not even Flea----would have been able to even tell the difference. Everyone would have just been like "huh, cool, I didn’t know you guys used to be circus bugs before you became warrior bugs." Just make the circus thing sound like an old backstory rather than something they were basically doing just last week, and they're all in the clear.

the part of the leaf has a meaning, ants while getting food to the colony follow the pheromones of other ants the reach the colony and sometimes an ant can follow its on pheromones getting into a loop where it just walks in a circle until it dies and a lot of times bringing other ants to the same loop because they will follow his pheromones too.

There's actually an earlier Disney short, part of the Silly Symphony series where we see the fable of the ants working all summer getting ready for winter while the grasshopper just plays around then come winter the grasshopper is alone in the cold starving dragging himself to the ant colony who take him in. The main plot of this movie is predictable in that it's been done many times in other movies and TV shows, it's all a take on the original story depicted in Seven Samurai where a village is being threatened and several villagers go out seeking help from those with the skill and will to fight for them.

I guess compression wasn't a thing back then. Even now though, well edited films have loud scenes and quiet scenes and a theater's sound system and isolation from external sounds exaggerate this effect drastically. But we do have compression. Back then we didn't have compression.

I adore this movie. It carries so much nostalgia for me, as a kid i remember my favourite part being when flick stands up to hopper by the burning bird. The music is iconic. This movie takes the misunderstanding plot and executes it well. The only flaw this movie has is that they were mad that they were circus bugs and thats what they kept yelling at them for. They didnt deserve that. Flick was really the only one who shouldve gotten yelled at, even then, he didnt deserve it but he did lie. But the motivations behind his reasons are well understood and it still makes this movie fun to watch even now!

I like this movie a lot more now that I’m an adult, because I can appreciate all the underlying themes more. Tradition versus innovation, trying to stand out in a culture of uniformity, dictatorship (that’s basically Hopper’s whole deal), the nod to the Seven Samurai (Flik getting outside help), humble performers looking for a respectful audience, and more. Also, it gave me new perspective on…well, perspective. Particularly the finale. A rainstorm doesn’t seem so bad for us humans, but for ants, it’s like the blitzkrieg. 😱 Plus, Hopper is definitely one of Pixar’s most savage villains, and gets one of the most brutal demises imaginable. 😈

His invention can be brilliant, but he didn't gain any favor with the others when his machine cast aside 2 empty (but still dangerously heavy for an ant) stalks on top of princess Ada. Think it through just a bit more, Flick, and your invention could be a great boon to the community.

This is my very favourite Disney/Pixar movie. I tried to make all my friends watch it when it came out. I still watch it now when I need a feel good movie.

Ants don't need protection, they'd just kill these grasshoppers, well, at least the ones I see here in Brazil.

This film was really enjoyable tbh. It reminded me of some similar films I'd love to see Sophie react to someday too, i.e.: * Hopper & Molt remind me of Maltazard & Darkos from the *Arthur and the Invisibles* trilogy 8:17 8:27 23:50 * Flik reminds me of *Tinker Bell* lol, especially his inventions 3:25 3:37 3:55 10:28 18:40 23:22 * The bird reminds me of Margalo from *Stuart Little 2* tbh 19:46 20:15 20:42 20:52 30:26 * The ants in general reminds me *The Ant Bully* * The ant colony & the way they treated Flik reminds me of Timon & the Meerkat colony in *The Lion King 1½*, etc 3:58 4:12 10:11 10:20
