Couple hickory logs I wanted to get cut up. One had a surprise under the bark.

I was amazed to find out that hickory can curl and figure. Maybe not as much as maple, but still enough to pop! I envy the stuff you get.

Oak gets what looks like curl too.

I like the grain of hickory! It would make some awesome rustic cabinets! That gum wood you cut last week looked really nice too!

All Tony's cabinets are hickory, nice wood. I find I really like black locust for some reason, need to cut more of that.

We all forget where we left our cameras from time to time! Pity about the bugs, but still a fine piece of timber. Keep safe, and mind your legs when turning those big logs as they bite (and I don’t mean the bugs)!

Good video George! It appears the bugs didn't go far into the wood, maybe hickory is too hard for them to munch on.

I've never seen a hollow hickory, insides are always good.

Yep, that's what we've experienced with the toe boards, they roll the log away from the log supports. Haven't had the pleasure of milling hickory, hope to someday. Is that evidence of hickory bark beetle?

Hey Andy, I'm going to add a piece to the toe boards to fix this problem. I don't know what kind of bugs it was, someone else suggested ants. I think that may be what it was, the trails are much larger than what you find on ash.

LOL, so you were searching the mud for the camera for how long?
@mcsawmill5 ай бұрын
I didn't get in the mud, I just sort of looked around with a stick for a few minutes. I was worried it was casualty at the mill TNG...

Now I know why they named that hook! You use it when you CANT move the log.
