This is a new device that even the guys who make it never thought of using it on a sawmill. Soon as I saw it I got the idea. Thanks Stone Coat, router sled for a sawmill! Now I can flatten slabs right on the sawmill. Sawmill router sled.

I can’t believe this came up. I was working on that exact idea to help guys with mills utilize what they got! You beat me to it and awesome video. Glad it was you who sprung it out there ! I am getting one!👍🤠

We are working at manufacturing one that has all that and will work on any mill setup. This is the first one I saw that came close to what we are doing! Thank you for sharing this.

Doug Smith is correct in his comment about mailing it to yourself via a registered letter. I had talked with a patent lawyer several years ago and that is as good as a patent for one year. Great idea.

Good to know but I didn't invent the idea, I just recognized a fairly cheap very well made device that would work.

That’s a great discovery. May have to try it. Wish it had up and down adjustments but I suppose putting shims in of equal size will be fine. I might have to come up with the additional rail system for the lt35

Any slab over 2" would need shims between wheels and extrusion bars but I make wood so that's not a problem.

Nice job!!! Watch all the time. I used to live in Burton on Butternut road years ago, now I reside in Florida. I have a helpful tip, use a cheap battery powered leaf blower to keep your sawmill clean and sawdust free. Very easy and fast cleanup. Again nice job. 👍

Super clever idea! I don't know how the router slides so easily, but hopefully it won't eventually bind up from dust. Also, once people begin making items from your wood, toss in a few frames at the end of some videos, I'd love to see them!
@mcsawmill
@mcsawmill Ай бұрын
I didn't show it real well but there are little ridges on the aluminum extrusion where the router slides, it's not a flat plate, that helps with eliminating friction making the router slide easy.

Great thinking! Now you are only limited by the cut width of your mill, not the width of your planer. I thought that sounded like a lot for a router jig but it is a lot cheaper than an industrial sized planer.

I have no idea whether you thought of it or not, but is there a way that a person can patent an idea such as you had there. If you didn’t think of it, and you did patent the idea and you mailed a special delivery letter back to yourself with the idea and drawings in it, you probably will make a fortune because I can see everybody who has a sawmill will want one of those gadgets. It was just an idea I had it was told to me years ago by a friend and of course I have no talent for thinking of things, other than when to come home for supper. Best of luck with your new toy. Take care. Be safe God bless. ✌️🇨🇦

If you put a wood block between the rails an the wheel brackets it would work on your mill. Maybe I'll show that in a video at Nate's.

Could you use an electric hand planner in a jig to put in the guide? Seems like that would be faster.
@mcsawmill
@mcsawmill Ай бұрын
I was taking very light cuts, when I did the other side I did it in a single thick pass as a test and it worked fine. I'd say same speed as a power hand planer.

My hand planer makes wider cuts so might be faster but I have a bigger router and a half inch bit on order.

Do not replace the router it a Wen RT6033. I bought one because it was a half inch collet. The rocket scientist made the hole in the base rectangular. I bought a 1" round-over bit and IT DON'T FIT. Wen has a nasty habit of NOT supplying replacement parts for their stuff.
