Excellent coverage of an amazing engine! Ettore Bugatti was a perfectionist. To work in his factory, the story goes, an applicant was given a solid steel rod, and told to make one end a square, using only a hand file. Then the finished product had to have the *exact* dimensions as directed by Bugatti. I would imagine that he would be impressed by the W-16 engine. That transmission looks like you could use it in a semi truck! WYR= Really, Jay? If I could afford one, I could afford them all! But the Type 35 would definitely end up in my garage! P.S.: When the Veyron came out, I remember that Michelin virtually hand made the tires, and that they were $21,000 *_each_* !!!

VW did NOT buy Rolls-Royce. They only bought Bentley, and with it, the factory facilities in England. This is also where Rolls-Royce had been built. The name and Rolls-Royce trademark was purchased by BMW. Because of this, BMW had to re-create Rolls-Royce from the ground up. During this transition period, BMW worked with VW/Bentley until BMW had built it's own manufacturing facilities. Before all the mergers, Rolls-Royce had tried using BMW V12 engines but R-R buyers felt that the BMW engine didn't have enough torque. They continued using the traditional R-R/Bentley V8, in both Turbocharged and naturally aspirated versions. Remember, R-R/Bentley cars weighed close to 3 tons. Although there was alot of aluminum in the bodies, the frames were built like a HD 1 ton truck. BMW/R-R continued to buy Bentley V8's until BMW could build it's own engines capable of pushing it's new ground up re-designed R-R(based on BMW's "7" series, but oh so much larger).

Thank you so much for pointing that out.. =) I totally left out that bmw got the name rights

@@What.its.like. I seem to remember that BMW had believed that it got the manufacturing facilities also. BMW only got the R-R name. Imagine, once prestigious British brands are now owned by German companies! Almost as bad is the Jaguar brand is owned by a cheap-o car manufacturer of India.

SS 26 Bugatti... more roadable, in fact, there is a guy who does just that.... Jay Leno invited him to come by, so he drove across the country (and back) for said visit... On Jay's channel.
