Actually, it seems they’re based off the Freemasons. The Freemasonry, like the Snakolytes, have and an ultimately noble and moral purpose: they were originally a congregation of stonemasons that wished to perfect their craftsmanship and understanding of mathematics without the restrictions of the Church in the 13th century, just as how the Snakolytes are very avid researchers of Bugsnax that wish to protect the world from these monsters. Overtime, however, people began to believe the Freemasonry was much more sinister, with conspiracy theorists coming up with the idea of The Illuminati trying to create a New World Order, just as how The Snakolytes are attributed to the Grumpinati.

Whenever you interview someone, you use a tape recorder. You present a question, about their name, why they’re here, what they do, follow-up questions, and receive an answer. Listen to the tapes again and think about what they are: Interview answers. The questions are either cut out or unrecorded. When Alegander says that he is going to take your tapes, he isn’t referring to you: He is referring to another Grumpus. Another Press Journalist for GMM, whose hat you can find in one of the rooms in the Triplicate Space. They’re still alive though, both Jamfoot and the former Journalist. The Journalist was inducted into the Snakolytes, likely under poor circumstances. Especially judging by the idea that they aren’t a fan of Jamfoot, either. Yeah…Clumby Clumbernut, associate of the Snakolytes, and your editor for GMM, wearing the exact type of hat that you find in the Triplicate Space. Likely sending you (somehow herself or via someone else) the First Letter that guided you into the Triplicate Space. Perhaps for rebellious reasons. She doesn’t seem to advocate for making you disappear anyways, and her Second Letter with _her_ icon encourages you not to let Jamfoot push you around, a sign that she doesn’t think highly of him, while advising you not to make the same mistakes she made. He _is_ there as a punishment, anyways. (Also the Capuceetle isn’t likely someone important. It’s just Alegander’s best friend, “Joey Quickbeans,” with “I have been here for a very long time” implying that it’s likely just an Ancient Grump for all we know.) My only question is who’s “B”? I don’t believe that it’s from Clumby, since she sends a letter with her own signature, “C.” If she wanted to obscure her identity when sending a letter that compromised the Snakolytes, why would she send a second letter with that signature? The words of choice between both letters also strike me as different. And she assumed you to be dead (at least initially, what with the “legally dead” incident and firing you as soon as you left. And someone had to be watching you when you found that key and the Triplicate Space, and it isn’t Alegander. Another Snakolyte operative? Someone else who works under Clumby that secretly followed you? It could totally be one of the Snaktooth Survivor Grumpuses, I seriously wonder if we know them…
