I got a 1954 buick special with a 264 nailhead that was my father-in-laws', sitting in the shop that I want to get going. Came across this video and it makes me want to get after it. Glad to see you got it going! Gives me hope! Well done!👍

What gas peddle are you using - should be an aluminum Moon. 1960 - first job sawed a big foot out of the first scrap piece of aluminum that slipped on my Metropolitan gas peddle for parking at Custom Car Shows.

No pedal just pushing on the rod with my foot. Moon pedal was too early for this dragster. That stuff was big in the '60s. I'm going for a mid '50s period.

If the dentist is shooting flames then you got a problem. 😅

I'll have a video of the Motorama coming out, but its mostly of the setup and teardown. Too hard to film with a bunch of people looking at cars and talking.

Thanks. A lot off people said that at the show. Most couldn't believe it was built from a pile of junk in 5 weeks.

What carb is on that? I have and 62 401 nailhead and can’t find a carb for it let alone an intake. Any suggestions? TIA
@QuickSpeedShop
@QuickSpeedShop 7 ай бұрын
It's a Rochester 4 jet. The only intakes you're going to find are vintage aftermarket parts like Offenhauser or OEM. An Edelbrock 750 cfm would be a good replacement for the 4 Jet, but you'd have to figure out how to make the linkage work.

OMG wrong tool to adjust the points and forgot to put the rotor back in. Dwell meter dude, 30 degrees.

@@QuickSpeedShop There is a flexible hex head screwdriver that fits through the window in the cap. Crank the engine without starting and adjust the dwell to 30 degrees. Oh you also need an old school dwell meter. I threw mine away. I had a 62 Buick LeSabre with 401, 2V. I once swapped the water pump and had the core returned to the auto parts in 20 minutes. I replaced the left motor mount in the parking lot using 2x4 and revving the engine. Rebuilt the carb. Replaced the fuel pump with an electric one. The transmission was rebuilt by a shop. The cam gear disintegrated at 55 mph because it was nylon coated. Checked the rotor and it was not turning when I cranked the engine. The engine had dual valve springs and pop up pistons. The engine started overheating after the cam gear issue. I tore the engine apart without finding the cause and sold it. Found out it had a bent push rod when the piston hit a valve. Paid $650 for it in 1969. I have the battle scars from that engine.
