I love these cars! First saw them from Vanguard on KZbin. My dream!

I found your channel by watching a video on vanguard motor sales and I was really amazed on what you guys create. As soon as I saw the engine, the quality of the interior and the bottom of the car, I was convinced to ordner myself a cobra one day. You guys have my respect, wish I found out about your company earlier. Friendly greetings from Oldenburg, Germany👍🏻

i like that backdraft is not all about bling - they like to black out and dull down the iconic cobra - very cool

I guess with any power plant, this thing will scoot quick. I like the simplicity of an old school carb fed 427 Windsor with a lumpy cam & a 5 speed but I just love the potential of a newer Coyote Gen 3 crate motor and 6 speed. Great choices.
@Backdraftmotorsports4 жыл бұрын
Cars typically come in at around 2400 lbs and are a blast to drive. The Coyote is a great choice but it doesn't have the same muscle car feel.

I’ve been involved with building and drag racing Fords for almost 50 years. That’s why I have admired the level of technology and overall build quality that goes into every Backdraft Cobra I’ve seen since they were made available in the States. I appreciate an extreme automobile built with the drivers pleasure in mind and with the very favorable power to weight ratio of this Cobra, it’s sure to please. Overall this video is pretty good but the first employee interviewed seemed pretty well bored with the whole thing. I can’t imagine being involved with the production of Backdraft Cobras and having a bad day. A few minutes behind the wheel would surely get a positive change of attitude. The cost of the two turnkey engine examples mentioned seems a little high but to a person that is unable to build their own, then that’s the price one must pay. I would prefer to build an old school Ford engine that has a great winning record in Pro Stock drag racing. Especially during its dominance during the seventies before the NHRA began imposing rule changes aimed directly at this Ford small block engine to handicap it to the point of being unable to complete against the GM and Chrysler fan favorites and sponsors huge support dollars. The canted valve Ford Cleveland small blocks were eventually factored right out of their dominance in Pro Stock so the GM fan favorites could have a better chance of winning again. Now that’s the engine I would put in a Backdraft Cobra rolling chassis. The 351 Cleveland engine has started getting some serious aftermarket support over the past few years with aluminum alloy blocks and heads being produced in American foundries and distributed by a few well known companies that specializes in hardcore Cleveland engines. The Australian performance aftermarket support for Clevelands can be seen here on KZbin with alloy small block 461 cubic inch builds featuring single 4-V combinations WITHOUT power adders twisting the dyno to 934 horsepower and 669 lb/ft of torque on pump fuel. The same engine on race fuel exceeded the 1000 horsepower mark. Another fine example here in the States can be found on this page under the listing of DragBoss. While his TrackBoss American made all alloy 427 Cleveland is being built, his 408-C stroker using a OEM production Cleveland cast iron block and Ford alloy Cleveland heads with a single Holley 4-V for use in his street driven ‘69 Cougar turned the engine dyno to 752 hp @ 7600 rpms. Torque was strong with 571 lb/ft @5600 rpms. Did I mention no power adders 🤔 That’s why I would choose my 351 Cleveland boat anchor to power a 2400 pound Cobra. And using OEM Ford cast iron components, it can be built for less than half the price of the $ 23,000 engine option shown in this video. Cobra + Cleveland = good times for sure 🏁😉

What motor did you install? How was your registration process with the Ca DMV? I’m getting ready to order mine and have heard bad news from the two California BDR dealers. Any info would help. Thanks.

@@mikegray6747 Roush 427 SR. Most people at there DMV are clueless when it comes to the SB100. I actually had help through the DMV process by a friend and it was smooth sailing. Paid him well to get me through it. I suggest having all your paperwork in order and make copies for yourself.

@@trainingzonefootballacadem1185 Thank you for the response and info. You mentioned you had the finish work done by Vintage Motorsports, in CT? How was that process getting a now turnkey vehicle registered in California. You also mentioned a friend helping you with the registration process. Is he/she for hire? Where located? Northern or southern Ca?

@@mikegray6747 Yes, VMS did my finish work. Friend has stopped doing SB 100s due to covid and DMV operational procedures at this time in So. Cal.

These cars are cool but I can’t seem to get a look at the chassis (frame) is it the original style ladder chassis or a more modern tubular structure such as the factory five?
@Backdraftmotorsports4 жыл бұрын
It is a ladder style frame utilizing a full independent multilink rear suspension and a coil over strut in the front. Our chassis design is different from FFR as they use a bird cage design.

Just came across this video. I have car #1209 with a Roush 427R. The car is an absolute blast but the high horse power engines are not for everyone. I learned a lot about the process from this video. Love the car.

It can't be a coincidence that the founder of Backdraft is from South Africa and Superformance is also based in South Africa. What is the connection between these two companies, who both manufacture Cobra replicas?

I hear from Modern Muscle in Ocala that you have the auto trans option in the Cobra. Curious if that's the standard 6 speed or the 7 speed paddle shift gearbox.
