the foam between the door is an excellent idea, not only for the heat but also for the sound. as an addition to the way you constructed the door I would always use a good beat of construction glue. this makes the door ven stronger and if for somereason the screws falter the glue is still there.. and there is no room for bugs...so now you have even two comments and a thumps up keep them comming Seth I enjoy your workshop build! best regards from the NL

+Martijn Fransen oh construction adhesive would have been good. I forgot about that. I bet it would be ok to pull the osb off and add that. Although it is 9 degrees out right now. Thank you for the comments!

This is an excellent project video. I have never seen a project where the door is being built. This is making me think about building a replacement door for one in our garage. I would never have considered it without having seen this video. Thank you!

+Jim McNett thank you. The doors have been installed for 2 weeks now and seem to be working quite well. Fairly simple to build and very sturdy. Of course I will have to build all of the weatherproofing to go along with the doors. One of the disadvantages of a do-it-yourself door

With our work schedule I might have to get you do drive west to come and give us a hand on our upcoming build projects. Can't pay well but you want go hungry or thirsty. You did a good job on your shed.

It seems like you are on the road a little :) With how slowly I build you would be out of food way before the place is finished. I am only this far and it has taken 3 months. But I would not take away any part of it. What a learning experience.

Must work so we can stop working. That doesnt sound good. lol. We just get things gathered up and stored until we can build and assemble. Getting a little done here but the weather hasn't been cooperating.

My friend gave me lots and lots of building materials so I have been blessed. If you were not working on one thing you would be working on another :) Weather this time of year can slow things so much! It was 65 yesterday and 32 today.

I think using the knife as you were was the best tool to be using. Great effort

It worked out well! I am sure there are saws that can do the same job but the knife was good too.

Am I hearing a bit of The Grand Vizier's Garden Party? Some version of? Cool! Nice work on the workshop too!

Interesting. I have not heard that song before. The music in the video is from Jane Johnson.
@JoeOutdoors6 жыл бұрын
It is a very old Pink Floyd tune from Ummagumma. It is the brainchild of the drummer Nick Mason. Can be found on YT.
@LandtoHouse6 жыл бұрын
I sent the song to my mom. (the person that wrote the intro music) She says Pink Floyd gets inspiration from her. haha.

That is a substantial door, nice! Just a couple of small points some glue would have helped the rigidity and the hinges need to be fairly substantial due to the weight, looking forward to part 2
@LandtoHouse8 жыл бұрын
+Michael Collinson for some reason I forgot all about construction adhesive for the doors. The rest of the building is using with the stuff. I should be able to take the doors down pretty easy and put the adhesive on. I should probably wait until it warms up past 9 degrees. The doors have been on for about 2 weeks now and seem to be doing quite well.
@oldtimer438 жыл бұрын
To be honest, I don't think I would be taking it apart again, the fact you have a solid board either side makes it a very strong construction anyway. Construction glue would be "Belt and Braces" as we would say :)
@LandtoHouse8 жыл бұрын
+Michael Collinson I suppose as long as it keeps the bugs out I'm satisfied.

Like the door project, and the insulation will be worth its weight, but am really interested in the drone footage of the ponds you show at the end. That is quite a setup with the terraced ponds, great rock work. Was that a local project or a CCC project? Would like a little historical perspective on it if possible. Thanks...
@LandtoHouse8 жыл бұрын
+Charles Kiplinger thank you. Sure thing. I will film the pond and then voice over the history behind all the work. I have a video on this from years ago but it's not with drone footage :)

what are the opinions on the need for diagonal support from top back to hinge side to stop sagging in down the line? On site I've seen people using hand saws to cut the insulation panels, I have also seen a special 22" panel hand saw with bread knife looking edge to it.
@LandtoHouse8 жыл бұрын
+ZanderKaneUK I suppose if sagging does occur I can put some cross braces on the inside. That should keep things from sagging. There are bound to be several methods of cutting these materials other than a razor knife. I figured that I have so little of it to cut that I might as well do it the hard way
@gardening-in-the-woods6 жыл бұрын
No need for a diagonal brace, you have osb and sheet siding, that is all you need.
@LandtoHouse6 жыл бұрын
That is what I was thinking. So far it has held up with no issues.

Seth, I have not used the Fiber Cement board, is it waterproof?
@LandtoHouse8 жыл бұрын
+F333 oh yes indeed! Especially after paint. There is a sample at my local lumber yard that has been submerged in water for 8 years with minimal deterioration.
@ashlandgunclub10008 жыл бұрын
Think pocket holes next time and some diagonal bracing would help keep it from racking.
@LandtoHouse8 жыл бұрын
+Ashland Gun club I did not think of that. I need to buy longer pocket screws and start using them more. If the doors start to sag I guess I can add bracing later.

You make it look easy, keep them coming. You are using your circular saw with a guide board often enough that you ought to consider making a re-usable set like theses: www.popularmechanics.com/home/tools/reviews/a3602/4283497/ having the edge of the guide to line up with your cut marks so you don't have to try/adjust/repeat with the saw's sole plate would save a lot of time. For next time when putting skins on a door, gluing the skin to the frame makes it more rigid and less prone to sag/rack with age as the wood fibers around the screws fatigue and 'wallow out' from the door being used. For cutting the hardie board, there is a $20 masonry blade for your circular saw, well worth the investment and I'm sure you will use a masonry blade again and again. after all, every project is justification for a new tool, lol
