Finally, a woodworker that doesn’t use excessive glue all over and a ton of wast with disposable brushes, etc. Project turned out nice and I got a few useful tips in the process.

This was a great build, Jon. I have learned so much from watching your builds. I see you as the modern day version of Norm Abram from The New Yankee Workshop. Your builds have great aesthetics and you explain everything so well. It convinces me that I might be able to build the same project just by following your detailed instructions. I love your channel. Thank you for sharing your woodworking world with us.

@@JonPetersArtHome cool thanks! I've always struggled to spray in my shop for the reasons mentioned above. Finishing projects in the winter that need multiple coats is especially challenging....so much so that I've started using hard wax wipe on finishes instead during the cold months. It's not a perfect solution

John, this was a fantastic build! I really appreciate you taking the time to not rush through the base build. As a new woodworker learning the ropes, considering the time and material cost of the walnut, what would you price this sideboard cabinet for? Thanks again!

Great project, Jon! I've been following each bit and am happy to see a full project video. Quick question: any reason you preferred 5/8" ply for the drawer boxes instead of 1/2"? I tend to use 1/2" on all drawer boxes and am curious if there is any particular reason you went heavier for this project.
@JonPetersArtHome
@JonPetersArtHome 5 ай бұрын
Thanks! 5/8 is just a little heavier and I think less likely to split from the screws… gives the drawers, a solid look and feel

Love this look. Elegant and useful and zero fussiness. But … 26:47 Since you’re using nice thick plywood anyway, couldn’t you skip all the screws and just use glue, esp on the bottom? With the pins, good glue, and your meticulous clamping, sure seems like those drawes would be bombproof for even your Paul Revere silver flatware. (Sorry, Jon. I’m always on you about this. You like extra strength - and are building for clients - and I’m always trying to be minimal. I’d love to hear about an option for a back that could be seen. Maybe a big veneered panel with dividers to break it up?)
@JonPetersArtHome
@JonPetersArtHome 5 ай бұрын
Hi John, I feel the screws aren’t much work and make the drawers, much stronger. Yes, you could use veneered plywood and attach it from inside the cabinet. I did that on another walnut sideboard a few years ago and you can see it on my channel .
