CarAudioFabrication do use this mainly for finding the best way to setup your system or to also find the resonance of your cabin and build your box around cabin gain to get a long flat frequency response jw I want to build a box to help find the resonance of my cabin along with the best position for spl but I like a flat frequency response for all kinds of music and sq and spl basically sql wouldn't it be best to have a sub and box that can play down with a f3 of 30 ish hurts with a qtc of .707 or is cabin gain big enough in most cases were it wouldn't matter

Thanks for sharing your build - and since you asked: I've got a Subaru Legacy wagon with a ported 1.75 cubic feet internal volume sub box with a single 12" subwoofer in the back cargo area. The box is well braced internally, has a 6 inch internal port, and I recess mounted the speaker so I could cover both the speaker and the port with hardware cloth and then carpet to protect everything - so the external size is somewhat bigger than the 1.75 CF internal volume would suggest. I now have both the sub and the port pointed upward. I first tried firing both forward into the back of the rear seats, but changed orientation to firing up after about a month. I am not sure I can tell a difference in sound volume or quality for sure between forward and upward facing. At first when I faced the box into the back of the rear seats I was worried about protecting the speaker - but really nothing gets on the box or even threatens the speaker area with it mounted all the way in the back of the car, even though the box technically is not separated from the seating area as it would be in the trunk of a sedan say. ...you did ask what direction people have their subs pointing...

I have a Rockford 12" P2 facing towards the trunk. I am trying to learn more about car audio so there wasn't a calculated decision on that direction but it works great for now. I first had in installed in a 1998 Ford Escort. I am now driving a 1989 Toyota Camry. Not the ideal cars but I had to have a good stereo.

Extended cab 2012 f150 with a single 15" (audiopulse axis) in a sealed 3cuft enclosure. The sub is firing up/forward at a 30 degree angle. Looking for ward to trying different configuration later in my build and will try using a test sub setup. Previous experiments in an extended cab nissan hardbody pickup I got the best/loudest bass with the subs firing forward vs up. Never tested it in my current truck....yet. Still working on my active two way setup with dsp as seen in previous CAF videos. Awesome stuff.

1997 Camry. Kicker S12L7 12" Dual 4-Ohm VC Solo-Baric sub in a pre-fabbed port-tuned box for a 10" sub (due to space limitations on my 1985 Corolla GT-S, where it was originally installed). I mounted the sub externally to make up for the loss of volume from the smaller box. It's mounted on the passenger side with the sub's magnet facing the right rear quarter panel and the port facing the rear bumper. The sub is powered by a Kenwood KAC-9102D amplifier wired parallel to give 850 watts RMS. I tried facing the box towards the rear bumper, with the port on the right, then the left, but found the side mount (longitudinally) to give the best sound while using the box itself to protect the sub from objects in the trunk.

Toyota Matrix 2009 Base with 1 SoundQubed HDS3.112 on a Q1-1200.2, sub up, port back towards the hatch. Tried all other orientations and this worked the best. Also helps the lows if you Velcro or mount the box right behind the front seats.

Sweet! Yes rigidly mounting the subwoofer into the vehicle is not only good for safety, but it does help to achieve more output as the box cannot lose acoustic energy bouncing around.

Volvo 740 sedan. It has a huge trunk so I have a single 12" subwoofer in a large ported box placed in the middle facing backwards tuned to ~30hz with a 155ah agm battery next to it. I previously had problems with trunk rattle, but after dampening the rattles have mostly gone away. I also have removed the rear deck cover liner and it is now coated with damping material, there are two holes in the deck (from the factory) covered by the lining so removing it made the sub breathe into the cabin much better so it hits those lower frequencies much nicer. If you have any questions about this vehicle feel free to ask!

Okey so i have been playing around with boxes a bit and my first box was 2 12"s ported everything firing in to to cabin on a coupe, loved ut sounded great didn't look so great because of some miss calculations before i bought the woofers should have went with 10"s in hindsight, then i tried to have them fire up against the trunk and having the port go in to the cabin but that box never got finished and the car broke down so the woofers are going in to a new daily and this time its gonna be a 4th order firing agains the trunk in a 3 door hatchback.

I'm doing a install for my truck within the next few months and I realized something that can change the car audio world. Have you ever considered using a 3D printer for car audio installs? The possibilities would be endless. My Brother's friend is creating a copy of my factory dash speaker grilles with a slight alteration to the part. If you are interested on how it turns out, let me know. This practice with using 3D printers for custom parts may accelerate your business profits.

Honda del Sol with 2 10's in the trunk and 1 cheapo 10 in the cabin between the seats. It's just a hodge podge setup of random stuff I got cheaply. In the trunk is a 10" rear firing sealed box and a 10" bandbass box wired inversely (so the subs produce sound in the same direction) with the ports firing backwards. The 10" in the cabin is one of those cheapo 10's you get with the tiny little 50 watt amp from Walmart. It helps produce some more mid bass in the cabin.

I have a question about boxes, does the enclosure shape have an effect on output? Talking about air space, would a perfect cube sound better than something with lets say very shallow depth, not much width, but a lot of length? Or what about other shapes; would an octogonal prism be better than a rectangular, triangular, hexagonal, pentagonal, heptagonal, nonagonal, decagonal, etc.; would pyramidal be better than straight prisms, or platonic solids (cubes, tetrahedrons, octahedrons, dodecahedrons, icosahedrons), or what about just a sphere? A long time ago I read that more surface area on the inside of a box helps, and that's why people will do sine wave patterns with layered boxes, or stuff boxes with insulation/pillow stuffy type material?
