This is a fantastic way to introduce filtering artifacts for no good reason with the added bonus of wasting CPU time where you could have designed a single properly parametrized EQ curve.

thank you so much, this combinator is a time saver.. ((For the naysayers, get it , go in it and start turning knobs, until then, stop judging the the book by the cover))...

Thanks for a great tutorial, Yana. The thing I liked most was the importing and explanation of using the free combinator (vocal chain) which is really the point here. This is a foundation for any vocal and will need a little tweak for different voxs. I've run this through 2 pop vocals and they sound so good with some tweaks. Also, I have removed some of the gain tools but 2 the first and last.

Looks like YT is doing a poor job with their audio leveling. I listened to this with 3 different headphones. DT990 Pro / Focal Clear MG Pro and an AKG K-872. I don't hear much difference between the dry and wet signal.

I know, if that's 'a little bit of tune; then I would hate to hear what she thinks saturated would be. To be fair, I hate all the highly processed shit. What's the point of being a creative individual if even your voice is going to sound like everyone else's?

I see where this can go. Thanks! Instead of using the gain every time though, you try adjusting the knob on the mixer channel as you go. Or you can use a send/bus. Also, Reason actually does have a DeEsser already installed and it's FIRE. It's even easier to find with the browser. 😉

It seems in Reason 13 that if you are pitch editing vocals the keyboard alongside the vocals no longer sounds a note. This is very frustrating for folks like me who edit by ear.

The saturation, distortion, input and output works well... Just crank it all up and drag it holding shift(disconnnected) as a send. Then it's just a matter of feeding :D

I watched a few tutorials on her channel and they're solid. I'm confused as to why she used 63 gain tools, but the finished product is nice. Artifact hazard? Very possible. Overselling reason 13 devices? For sure. But the hate on here is clipping. With all the saltiness over Reason's subscription favoritism, the crowd is more critical than usual. I made a lite version of the combinator and it's 🔥
@kimspence-jones47653 ай бұрын
Is it wise to chain so many gain tools? Each one will involve a multiplication for every sample, which has to introduce rounding errors (i.e. effectively noise). Given the internal resolution, this may be irrelevant, though. Edit: sorry, should also have said thanks for a really interesting tutorial. 🙂

@@HOLLASOUNDS Absolutely. If she likes what the chain does to her sound, it’s all good. I was just curious about what effect all those small added gains actually do to the track.
@HOLLASOUNDS3 ай бұрын
@@kimspence-jones4765 Well to Me this Combinator is way to complicated I would never stack that many devices together but that Combinator sounds good the way She set it up. This Combinator She was making was copying the custom Combinator She had already made before recording the video. Prehaps the number of devices makes it more easier to control and set up the Combinator controls.
@79Daver3 ай бұрын
@kimspence-jones4765 Could be but does it matter in the end? Its about the sound. If the sound is good then what does the rounding off mean still? Its like with clipping where we introduce distortion as a way of achieving a certain goal . There is always up and downsides to every processing in the end

I think before I would benefit from a combinator like this, I would need to train my ear more. I can identify a few frequencies I don't like for sure but I don't think I can do anything as complex as this for sure. I do think the delay and reverb part could help me though. Can anyone recommend techniques for ear training or videos to watch for that?

Great tutorial Yana. I am not on R13 yet, I usually wait a few months before updating unless there are "must haves" in the update - this time there are "nice to haves" so I can wait. I have 3rd party gain tools I can substitute to replicate your setup.

great Video thank you but why so many gain tools? what would be the difference if you would add the output gain?
@CarlosMartinez-gr1rp2 ай бұрын
It is her way of checking that she compares the effect of every FX fairly, for the same peak levels, one at a time. The problem to do A/B this way is that if you correct the peak level with a gain tool after the FX then you cannot bypass the FX and maintain the levels. You would have to bypass the FX and the gain tool at the same time.

bro wtf, how is reason even sponsoring this? you gain stage with a knob on the top of the mixer/ slider in the rack view. this IS NOT how you chain a vocal at all. it's simple. gain stage as outline in the mixer, then on the MIXER there is a rack of 8 busses just for fx. a great way to start is to delete all these stupid reverbs they have in there and open browser, go to reason library on the left, then click reason factory sound bank, all effects patches. type things like desser and vocal or backup vocal. there are excellent options for premade chains that you can adjust very simply to make vocal amazing.. add deesser, add vocal spreader and add vocal chain ... then you can add them to each track on the mixer using the buttons labeled 1-8 in the orange 'send' area on each track. should i be making these videos?? yeah probably. what do i know? i'm only a 20 yr user and a beta tester.. lol
