I wonder, how many hours it would take you to make subsequent ones, now you've done all the trial and error, because i think some people would pay some very good money to have one of these.

Such a masterful job. Having done a 1:1400 D recently, I really struggled to drill the windows along curving surfaces of the hull, my "conference room" windows were basically a borderline botch job. I only drilled about half the windows on the ship, on the show it was common to see only half the windows lit for the D, but it was honestly just as much about trying to avoid having to do as many windows along strongly curved surfaces as it was trying to create a certain appearance for the model. I also learned the pain of trying to do elongated windows very close to each other while maintaining a consistent but tiny spacing between them. Looks like there's a lot of those types of windows to do on the E and I don't envy the task you had there. Did you have to cut the holes for the windows out of the aztec decals after applying them? Wondering how that process went because they look really clean. Also, how did you achieve the registry lighting on the saucer? Were there any tricks to get it to cast the proper amount of light on the hull? Again, great job.
@js_models
@js_models 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Yes, drilling windows is a painstaking task. I recommend using a pin vise (i.e. by hand). Drill 2 or 3 holes per window and then carefully move the drill bit up and down, using it like a file, to hole-out the window. It is easy to break many bits doing this if you are not patient. After drilling the windows out I filled the holes with canopy glue (Kristal Klear) and then simply applied the Aztec decals over the top. On models that have the black windows on the decals, I usually scratch those off with a knife. The registry lighting is an artificial effect known as a raytheon lighting. It is light shining through the plastic from inside the model created by not light-blocking those areas. Take a look at my Excelsior video for more details.
@Astronomy_Live
@Astronomy_Live 2 жыл бұрын
@@js_models Yup, I used the same technique to make the windows, just found it much more challenging on the highly curved surfaces. The bit wanted to "walk" even when trying to hold it steady. Interesting on the raytheon lighting, that makes sense!
@alantoms9298

Hi really nice work!! respect...A question, what did you use for the clear parts? Greets
@js_models
@js_models 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. The clear parts are from the kit. I sprayed a light coat of the grey primer on the inside surfaces. Ridges on parts for the blue warp lights were sanded smooth on the outside before fitting the brass photoetch grilles. All of the little windows are filled with a clear glue after painting.

@js_models
@js_models 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I estimated the shape from the artwork on the box and masked it with tape. You can also check the size of the masked region against the registry decals. (It's light shining through the plastic to simulate the effect of a floodlight.)

Thanks. No need to poke holes in the decals. After painting I filled the windows with a clear glue (Microscale Kristal Klear) and after that was dry, applied the decals.

@js_models

Sure. I used canopy glue (Microscale Kristal Klear). You can form windows using a drop of glue on a toothpick. It's a white glue that dries clear.

@@js_models Wow, thank you very much!! For a previous model, Enterprise-A AMT, I used resin, but it's a mess really. This seems to be much more effective. I am now drilling the windows, and can't wait to use this, thanks again!

How did you do the phaser effect in the beginning?
@js_models
@js_models 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, the phaser effect is achieved using an arduino microcontroller. There are 9 LEDs in total, 8 wired in pairs and a single one in the middle.
@gaets04
@gaets04 4 жыл бұрын
Where did you get that phaser light kit ? I noticed the Arduino UNO in there I want to start mine now that I’ve seen yours.
@js_models
@js_models 4 жыл бұрын
Gaetano D'Agostino Hi, I made my own phaser light kit because the commercial options are quite expensive. Yes I used an Arduino. To reduce the number of output pins needed you can use a 75HC238 3-to-8 line decoder chip. I connected the phaser led’s in pairs to the decoder. There are 9 led’s in total. 4 pairs plus the central one.

What type of circuit board or circuitry did you use
@js_models
@js_models 3 жыл бұрын
The electronics is visible at 2:03 in the video. The leftmost board is homemade and includes some 555-timer flashing/strobe circuts for the navigation lights (see my Lighting Board video). It also has a 75HC238 3-to-8 line decoder chip used with the phaser LEDs. Below that board is a voltage regulator for converting the 12V supply to 9V. The Arduino Uno in the centre controls the fancy effects (phasers, nacelles, sound effects). The rightmost board has an Adafruit 5-pad capacitive touch sensor breakout (AT42QT1070) and a DFPlayer Mini mp3 module which plays the sounds.
