Before I even watch the video. My personal opinion is to wait as long as your PC still works at a level you are satisfied with. My problem usually is that I cheap out on certain parts and I always want an upgrade as a result because even right out of the gate I'm unsatisfied. If you're already compromising too much right from the start you will find yourself in a constant minor upgrade cycle until you eventually go big enough to satisfy your needs. I have paid thousands more over the years than I would have if I just took the plunge and invested in my PC properly from the start.

As long as it still meets your needs it's fine to wait. The longer you wait the bigger the difference. I'd say you've already waited long enough that just about any new CPU would be a WOW upgrade for you today except for maybe the Pentiums, and Celerons, and the other very budget options but even those would be an upgrade for 2 cores but I don't think you should get one of those. Get an i5 of the 12th generation intel or up on the intel side and Ryzen 5 7600 or up on AMD. AMD is the better option in my opinion because it has upgrade options still into the future but the Intel platform is a dead end now. Either way it will be a good upgrade. Your graphics card options are super limited with Haswell but they are all pretty cheap what options will actually be good on the Haswell platform.

May or may not go, but I have some budgetary concerns that need addressing first. 3060ti is still pretty alright for 1080p, especially some of the older games I play routinely. 3700X is looking a bit long in the tooth, but again, still fine as long as I'm on older stuff.

Okay that’s a really good budget. I am assuming you have a 3060ti and 3700x. You have 2 options that if you want to look into further that i would recommend: 1) keep your current rig and upgrade to a 5800x3d and get you a high end card even a 4090 and play at 4k max settings on 90% of games. That means buy a new monitor as well. 2) Buy a new rig with solid specs. In my city Best buy actually has some pretty good builds for $100-200 more than what you would pay for getting the parts separately. But the MINIMUM specs I would recommend for LESS than $2k would be… GPU: 7800XT or 4070 Super CPU: 13600k or 7700XT Ram: 32 gb of 6000 Memory: 2Tb of storage PSU: 750 watts If you go with a build above you can play high refresh rate 1440p on most modern titles and even 4k max settings on older games. Building a new PC is more complex than just considering the CPU, when it comes to waiting for the next gen or not. Do you buy a MB for the current generation, but have no upgrade path? I see the new RAM "socket" on next gen are not compatible with DDR5 modules. So you have to swap RAM too. There are more components to consider than just the CPU, especially if those components all need to be upgraded. It is more about buying into a platform that offers the best future proofing. This does not apply if you already have the current platform and are just upgrading the CPU, but if you are deciding between the current platform, and the next, it makes sense wait for the next generation, even though the gains may initially be modest, it provides you with an upgrade path.

Coming from someone who just built a 14th gen I-9, I would say wait. Especially if you're on the higher end. You will end up making so many concessions. I believe the next year is hopeful for Intel. You don't want to be counting PCIe Lanes and resetting your BIOS every week hoping that your RAM will run. If you need four dims of RAM and PCIe Lanes you will be disappointed. Lol I love my PC but aggravated to the point of smashing it 😮
@PizzlesTechTime9 ай бұрын
@AnonymousUser-ww6ns yeah at least AMD is giving for extra PCIe Lanes. I followed the specs in order to Gen 5 PCIE SSD. @AnonymousUser-ww6ns yeah that would be amazing unfortunately unless I sell this build I'm stuck with this one. It ends up editing H.264 video a lot better. So now I have a more powerful faster machine but at the same time seems less powerful. Really weird compromise I ended up making. Although I can edit 4K no problem at all. It's really 8k and long GOP clips that mess the new PC up.

Im quite confident that the removal of HT will be good eventually, Just makes more sense to have more slower individual "workers" than a slow lane on the same core, but of course this sorta stuff needs a transitional period, as we see that in some cases be it SMT or HT more people are having small issues with that enabled in certain scenarios. I was gonna build something new as my setup is wonky tbh, but for now, I settled on a laptop, This happens a lot, i buy a new PC on 1st or 2nd gen of something new and then buy a laptop to last me untill the next big thing is released, hopefully ill learn this time heh. As for the rest, I just hope intel gets their power usage down as that is quite a holdback especially for the ITX crowd with cooler limitations.

Buying first chips for given platform is asking for trouble and low resell value, but this time NPU get me wondering if lacking it won't hurt. For now it doesn't seem to bring anything tempting casual user or gamer, but hard to say what future will bring and they will do what they can to sell you that. E.g. 1080 Ti is remembered as amazing thanks to generational jump and low price, but year-two after it launched it sucked to not have DLSS or playable ray tracing performance.
