For gaming the i9 is totally fine, even now in January 2025. No need to upgrade here. The only thing would be a new graphics card..if you can find a deal, that is not a total ripoff these days.

i just dared to watch 4 mobile-phone-recorded videos on 4 screens, and it was stuttering a lot initially from the same rtx3070, at screen resolutions significantly below 2000x, most likely because it was from 1 not super fast HDD, that was also reading and writing a lot of other stuff.

Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes fiber, and yes. I have tried 1440p in many games probably at least 1000-2000 hrs and I eventually swapped back to 1080. The responsiveness of most the games I play and although it may be clearer on 1440 I find the view models to be too small for me especially in games like cs and valoramt that done have an fov slider. I personally game on asus 540hz monitor with a 14900k and 3080 as you would imagine cpu upgrades are huge.

I moved my husband from a R5 1600 to R5 5700x at the same time I moved him from a GTX 1050ti 4gb to a RX 6600XT. He's been very happy with that upgrade, and given his modest needs (1080p 60hz monitor, doesn't play anything more demanding than WoW) it'll last him a while. The price on that 5700x was fantastic, and the low TDP is lovely.

It's quite funny how poorly this video has aged. It's just about 4 years old now, I'm using a 4090 and a 7800X3D and while in many many cases even at 4k I'm CPU bottlenecked, it's due to the speed of the CPU not the core count. I use two monitors as well. The second monitor always has Firefox open with 5+ tabs, I often have Discord and Tidal open too. The only game I see my CPU usage about 60% for more than a short period is Battlefield 2042 which is probably the most CPU intensive game out there. Is it the playercount? Maybe. But the next Battlefield was confirmed to be dropping back to 64 players. There are some really niche cases where a 12 or 16 core chip will benefit you for gaming. If we're talking 5950X vs 5800X then yeah maybe the 5950X is needed in some cases, but the sheer speed of the 7800X3D and 9800X3D seem to kind of just bruteforce it's way to victory, the 7900X3D and 7950X3D actually reduce performance even in the 1% and 0.1% lows unless configured properly, and if you were to do that, you won't gain anything over a 7800X3D, it'll just match it. We're still a little bit away from 16 cores being useful, 10 and 12 cores might help, but barely. CPUs just need to get faster to keep up with GPUs like 4090s and the newly announced 5090.

I have a 3900x with a 6900xt going on a Samsung Odessey G9 49" running fairly at 5120 x 1440. I am thinking about upgrading to a 5700x3d and "downgrading" my screen to a G5 G50D for running in 2560 x 1440 at 144 hz instead. Would there be any better options for AM4 platform or any screens in the pricerange of G5 G50D?

I've used them all over the years and MSI has had the most issues. I quit buying them about a decade ago because of it. ASUS and Gigabyte have served me well over the most recent years. Picked up another Gigabyte last week. ASUS does tend to be a little pricey.

Just got my first NVME drives a few Months ago and have been learning about Bifurcation/Lane-splitting. Luckily on the MB I have I can use all 3 without anything getting split- that only happens if I use another PCI-E expansion card to have more than one NVME running through the CPU rather than the Chipset (requiring an expansion card). It was pretty confusing trying to figure out how this all works and every Motherboard is different, which is a bit annoying- I wish they'd make it more plainly clear to Customers.

Ryzen 9 5950x is the most powerful AM4 chip. So if you want to max out AM4 it is the way to go. Otherwise an upgrade beyond that will require a complete switch to AM5 which means nearly everything on your old rig is obsolete including the ram. For somebody with any AM4 system, going beyond the 5950x will be extremely expensive whereas an upgrade to the 5950x will be cheap. We're talking 350 bucks for the 5950x or easily over a thousand especially if you have 128 gigs of ram on your AM4 board. 128 gigs of ddr5 is $400 plus $200 for a mobo. Plus 400 for an AM 5 Ryzen 9 7900. So for $350 you can get close to the performance of a $1000 upgrade.

As of New Years Day, 2025, the 5900XT is the 16-Core CPU to buy since the 5950 has disappeared. I have been married to the AM4 Platform since 2018 and now have 3 PC's & 2 DIY NAS. I strive for the best "Bang for the Buck" in my PC purchases and wait out the initial teething issues & price gouging that comes with new tech introductions. Both my Zen3 PC (5900X & 5800X3D) have 64GB-3600 RAM with decent GPU (RX7900XT & EVGA RTX3070Ti) while my grandson has a 3900X/32GB-3200 RAM/ Strix RTX2070. I paid $270 for my 5800X3D/B550/16GB-3200 RAM; the RAM went into a NAS & my 5800X3D Gaming PC should be fine until the kinks of AM5 or 6 are worked out, prices aren't eye-watering & I'm ready to overhaul my PC architecture.

Space is not a problem, neither is cooling. Problem comes with safe storage. Our roads aren't the smoothest and most of the time feel like Baghdad in 2004. If you strap it down it absorbs every bump, placing pads under it doesn't really help. Free floating with straps seems to be the way to go but finding a case that will allow you to do it is the problem. Then there is the unavoidable, you can't supply the tower with power at all times. Having to shut the system off is not the best thing for it. Then there is weather conditions. I could go on for days but I'm a just stop here. Best option and that's the way I'm running. A good monitor. In my case a LG 39inch curved I use it either to play PS5 on it or I hook up my Asus Strix laptop to it. Not really needed since the laptop has a 18inch screen but since it's there and allows me to stretch away from the laptop why not. As for internet I use T Mobile. It's fast enough for most games especially if you use a Ethernet cable to connect it to the system you running, may it be console or laptop.

I know this is a really late reply but it still holds true as of this reply. When it comes to DDR5, the I9 13900k requires a ram speed of 6400mts to function properly. I have an Asus z690 plus wifi D5 motherboard, I9 13900k, 32GB Kingston fury silver DDR5 @ 6400mts, RTX 3090ti FE The question I want answered is, what's going to happen if I add an additional 32GB of the same ram (Bring the total amount of RAM to 64GB) to my setup?

i recently went from a r7 3700x, 2060 12gb and 32gb of ddr4 3200 to: a 4070 super, a 5950x (it was on significant sale) and 64gb of ddr4 3200 (with tighter timings). my machine is faster, smoother, and i can multitask more than i can keep track of. 64 gb of ram and "spare cores" on the cpu actualy seem to help out the meager 12gb of vram on the gpu by having a less horrible vram-ram swap experience.

I sort of did the same thing but from a 5900X to a 7800X3D and I don't regret it one bit. It runs everything I do faster, if it's slower or faster in multi-core I have no idea, it feels faster to me. I am trying to decide what to do next, because there's definitely tasks I'm doing that require more cores, but I'm not confident the 5900X would have handled those tasks better. I'll probably get a 9950X3D but who knows. I avoided the 7950X3D because I felt like it wasn't enough of an upgrade for what I was paying, it's double the price of a 7800X3D in Australia, and I've heard people were having tons of issues with games on the Dual CCD 3D chips which people only started finding ways to fix after I'd bought my 7800X3D

There is a video on LinusTechTips where they compare 4K to 8K TVs and they couldn't tell the difference between them in terms of video quality. That is because human eyes definitely have a limit in terms of the resolution that can we can see. So we've basically already reached the gaming resolution limit, at least. But yeah it's exciting to see how AI will impact games in the future.
