i am looking at doing something like this so i can start my garden earlier, instead of hoops i have the wood to build a long rectangle structure almost the height and width as yours, about 8 ft long and i am going to use 6mil plastic sheets from a roll, my question is once i get set up and planted, do i need to have ventilation slots on the ends? i was going to add some rectangle slots near the ground on each end, would that be a good idea? thanks

I love this idea. In my area, the term "ladder mesh" didn't quickly ring a bell with store staff. The terms here are called "concrete remesh" or "concrete ladder remesh". To my ears, there isn't much difference, but .... anyway, hope it helps someone. Great vid sir.

Hi Gary, I found when putting up the tent to cover your plants place a small plastic cup over the stake end before you put up your ag fabric..bc when the heavy rain and wind won't rip thru the fabric. The plastic season extender row cover ladder mesh needs to be closer together for winter snow and ice. Last year mine were 3ft apart and ice weighted it down alot almost colasped them. This year I'll place them 2 ft apart. Live and learn.

Hi Gary, and thank you for sharing this idea. It's so simple! I'm a new gardener that's experiencing 50/50 luck with my plantings. My garden suffered from a lack of pollinators so I purchased mason bees, which really improved things. What effect would this process have on my plants if the pollinators can't get to them? Again, thank you for all of the information you provide. I love your channel!

My neighbor gave me an old roll of rusted fencing that I cut into pieces to create tunnels, cut so tines can be inserted into the ground. I have them over my late pumpkins and squash with row covers on them. I have my cattle panel tunnel that had my strung tomatoes which have since been cut and stored inside in water. The tunnel has 2 layers of winter weight ag fabric and one layer of plastic. I put my potted plants inside and wrap another piece around the plants. Hoping to extend a few plants until I can repot them to overwinter in the basement. Thinking seriously about transplanting my pumpkins to inside the tunnel once the pots are moved. The vines are pruned short... should be easy to do.

I'm so glad you posted this. I'm making one now with PVC/rebar. I'm stuck on which type of cover to use. I'm using it for Spring flowers throughout the entire winter (long story but it'll also be used for vegetables in early Spring). I wanted to use Agribon-50 but it's only sold in 500' roles. Which type of plastic would you suggest for Maryland winters. One of the local nursery suppliers is going to give me some Dewitt 1oz Deluxe cloth but that's probably not heavy enough for our winters.

Looking for advice for cheap solutions for colder areas. Will eventually be using low tunnels to extend the season. I will have about 40 hula hoops, 50 ft of rolls of jute, 30 ft of ag fabric , 60 ft of greenhouse plastic and potentially bed sheet fabric (advice wanted on that) I may need to eventually double up protection. Should I be using layers of materials for protection ? ( ie. AG fabric, jute, plastic) Which goes on top ? Should I double the hoops with a small one inside ? I will be using PVC hula hoops. Any suggestions on a cheaper option for base supports than rebar? What are possible materials ( ie tape, fabric strips, etc) to shield the PVC hoop from contacting the film plastic and potential deteriorating chemical contact issues. Any suggestions for ridgeline ? ( Rope, sticks, bamboo, etc ) ? Should I sew reinforcement fabric at various points to make the film plastic and AG fabric more durable ? ( ie loops at hoop contact points and edges of fabrics and plastic)? Thanks
@THERUSTEDGARDEN
@THERUSTEDGARDEN 3 жыл бұрын
Last option. A low tunnel with a tunnel over that. Agfabric won't do much for keeping in heat. IF you can do each tunnel in plastic that would be best. Rebar is best for strength but wood stakes can work but do rot. But if you have access to branches you can make them. Since you are using hopes there are no points in your agfabric so you should be good. Check out our new Fall Gardening PODCAST Gardening Coast2Coast at gardeningcoast2coast.net. If you overlap your ag fabric, are the moths persistent to find holes to crawl into to get to the plants? How "sealed" do these tunnels need to be? Squash bugs dessimated my Gelbert Englischers last year, so now it's war!
