I am not player & am only Spectator. You have explained very well to understand the "Free kick Wall" concept. These tips have given me the opportunity to watch the Game with more involvement. However, You have not explained a situation where 1 defender lying flat on the ground behind the Free Kick Wall. Thank you brother

Be patient with yourself, it takes time to get used to the bigger goals. Keep working on your footwork, and your positioning - watching pro keepers and where they stand in different situations is a good way to do that!

I wish I watched this video yesterday. I let in a free kick which was central on the 18 yarder. I build my wall on my right hand post.(FIRST MISTAKE). Kicker was right footed. He managed to curl it into my bottom left. I stood too central aswell. A step left before kick was taken and I probably wouldn't be writing this comment😂. Great video's 👍

For the last situation i would always put the wall on my weaker diving side and "force" the striker to shoot on what he believes he is an error ( my "stronger diving side"). This way i pulled up some nice save once and it also forces the striker to change his initial plans trying to exploit a fake mistake
@ConorOKeefe
@ConorOKeefe Жыл бұрын
I would prefer to work on making sure that you don't have a weak side, which should help more going forward, but I do understand the point!

In a lot of videos you mention that u like to watch clips of goalkeepers who are similar to your game style. Any suggestions which can help in understanding goalkeeper type and planning training sessions.
@ConorOKeefe
@ConorOKeefe Жыл бұрын
Well goalkeeper type is more from the eye-test: what do they look, how do they move, what style do they play with. Then when you identify aspects of their game that you like, you can start to design drills: if you like their speed around the goal for example, start to research footwork drills, or gym work for increasing speed. That type of thing!

It is curious how you position the barrier in the second situation. Here in Mexico (or at least the trainers I had) always told us that we have to put the first man using the first post as a reference. Maybe it was like that in the 90s-2000s technique? Or is it just different styles in how to put a barrier between Mexico and any other parts of the world? 🤔. It makes sense what you said about but the second man as a "post reference" and the first one is for prevent an outside/curve shot, I have to try it and let you know how was. Thanks for that Con! Saludos desde México

Interesting... I don't really know where do you play and on which level (amateur, TDP, Liga Premier, etc.) but when I was active at a Tercera División club our coach followed almost the same approach showed by Connor here: from edges to center 2nd tallest > tallest (in line with the outer post) > 3rd > 4th*. Even my coach taugth me a little trick involving the use of your fingers as reference, lining up the hand with the thumb curled in towards your palm and having it facing your face you line the middle finger to the ball and build from there. The goal was to avoid a curl shot aimed towards your farthest position and "encourage" the taker to aim for your nearest one (giving them a clear LoS from the ball and the side of the net YOU want it for them to choose). All of what I'm saying was told to me roughly 15 years ago (I was 17 when I played and now I'm 33) by an ex-Primera A professional GK (was formed at Club América and played for Querétaro before they got the promotion to the 1ra División). Nonetheless, I hope to learn a little more of the topic by your account and experiences too! Best regards 😊

@@BlazeElPadrino662 I was training loong time ago in 3rd and 2nd division here in Mexico and always tell us that "first men of the barrier should be in the first post" . As I told you before long time ago, from 2002 to 2004. And before that in younger teams the same. Ah yes! The last week, (despite I get injured but not for that action 🙈), I tried what Con said and it really make a difference! Now I'm playing in amateur level and also my teammates in the barrier were really surprised because of this, even one try to "correct" the barrier but I didn't allow him 🙃. Maybe it could be the trainers, places or something else. The tip you mentioned an ex GK of Tapatío shared it to us

@ConorOKeefe
@ConorOKeefe Жыл бұрын
It's tough, probably the hardest area of goalkeeping. Try and bring in an opponent for training, to compete with you. Then start to work on trying to come for more in training matches. It's all about building timing & confidence, and you only really get that from trying it in games!

Great video as usual Conor. Had a scenario few weeks ago. Opposition got a FK about 26yrds out slight angle. I set up a 3 man wall. Had the rest of the lads in line with the 18yrd line. They then proceeded to set up a 3 man wall 4yrds behind my wall and in my line of sight. I couldn't see the ball at all. They scored from the freekick. I complained to the ref saying how it should have been offside as they are technically interfering with play. Ref said they were not offside. What is your opinion? Thanks
@ConorOKeefe
@ConorOKeefe Жыл бұрын
It would only be offside if they were closer to the goal than the rest of your teammates on the 18 yard line. But in future, you might use some of your other players to try and clear a line of sight between you and the ball - that can be a way round it, but it is really difficult!
@123sloaner
@123sloaner Жыл бұрын
@Conor O'Keefe Yes they were closer to the goal than the lads on the 18yrd line. I didn't want to have to drop mu lads back as deep as they didn't need to be. I thought the ref would've blew for offside once it was hit.
@ConorOKeefe

@@123sloaner that’s definitely offside then. Very frustrating! Might need to highlight it to the ref before they take the Freekick next time
