Inspiring build! I have been looking at various transmission line speaker designs to build. I like this design. Very beautiful. At 60 years old I already have some missing frequencies in my hearing, and after about 14KHZ, I can't really hear anything, so I am not sure I could fully appreciate their performance. Regardless, I like building things. I used to have a pair of JBL 4412s. I wish I still had them...

Excellent work and a very cool project. I did something similar with the Fostex FE103NV 4.5" Full Range FE103NV drivers and a much smaller enclosure. Sounded so different than a "regular" speaker. Mid tones are amazingly clear and top end gently rolls off. Lower end needs a bit of an omph, bt a subwoofer took care of it.

Cool design, but it seems like a TON of work. I built 3Pi horns from Pi speakers (94dB eff) and am very happy with them. Just a braced, ported cabinet. Unfortunately, they need a subwoofer, but I suspect these do too.

Nice project... I almost build a pair of BD Oris horns loaded with Lowther - the cost of shipping the horns from the Netherlands was more than shipping a human ( return trip ) to Sydney - which made me pause the project, as I just could not "stomach" the shipping fee.... A few years later i had an opportunity to audition them in Sydney..... The beaming & directionality that I heard, made them unlistenable to me - as much as transient response & "immediacy" & low level detail in the midrange were on par with the best electrostatics.... These TB drivers have nearly doubled in price over the last couple of years... Have you got experience with the Seas FR drivers & how they compare to these ?

Great for most music but if you like heavy bass I would add a sub to cover from 20 to 50

Most people could not build this project based on your rather superficial video, even if they even had the fully equipped pro wood shop as you do. I would like to say that there are pre cut kits available (or plans for simple horns) with full range Fostex and Lowther drivers out there if you are interested in this type of speaker.

The frequency response is rarely linear some frequencies are high like in this case the midrange is a bit higher and needs to be tamed down a bit to sound better.

That final frequency response looks very flat indeed, an excellent job all round. Are you familiar with the Joseph Crowe audio channel ? he's a horn guy with some ultra pro looking exponential horns that he designs and CNC's himself in solid hardwoods, v. impressive.

Often but not always depends on the speaker and the cabinet the frequency response of a full range speaker is not very flat and you need to tweak it a bit for better sound. In this case the midrange and part of the high frequency was a bit higher then the rest resulting in a brighter sound that can be fatiguing and needed taming down a bit. Every speaker is different you need to measure and listen. Also the goal is to get a frequency response where the speakers sound live and enjoyable and that may not be very flat. Only measuring and ultimately listening will decide. Hope that helps :)

1/4" curved plywood? Looks almost as thin as veneer to my eyes! Could it be 1/8"?

There are actually 2 layers of 1/8 with Acoust-X in between to make more then a 1/4. The main layer is 1/8, then strips of 1/8 with Acoust-x added in between (you can only see some of them as some are a few mm shorter) and a lot of 3/4 inch bracing then dense insulation in between, it is fairly solid. The bracing is the most important part. If you prefer you can add as many layers of 1/8 as you like. Hope that helps.

the W8-1772 is suitable mainly for the back-loaded horns, the W8-1808 can be used in open-baffle but if you have the 1808 it is not a big difference use it

The response curve is very doubtful. As well in the bass with a pavilion, as in the treble with a double cone. Smoothing is undoubtedly extreme.

The length of the horn should be based on speaker size and desired tuning frequency, not just 9 or 10 ft.
