I feel like quite a bit got left out on this one. What happened to the client-side javacript?

it happened fast at the end, but the gist is you need to have a client side folder which is separate from the server side folder. that way, when your index.html "looks" for the javascript, it won't have to request it because it is out of scope of the server folder. just look at 3:09:45
