Very interesting to see someone else who prefers to use this methodology when designing puzzles rather than just throwing an inadequate microcontroller into the mix. I've used this exact same method to do sequence puzzles in the past and I've never had a reliability issue as long as your connections are solid.

Absolutely. We use hundreds of these relays. Not one of them has ever broken or malfunctioned a single time in 9 years.

Great tutorial! I have all of this on my bench and am gonna try to build it today. I'm excited for puzzolcon. Got my tickets and ready to go. The hardest part is choosing which seminars I want to attend.

Thanks Brian! Let me know if you have any questions while building it. We can chat before the conference and help you figure out which seminars would be best. Looking forward to it! 👍🏼

One of the best explainer videos out there! Can the correct button switches have lit LEDs (as a positive feedback indicator)?
@PuzzolCreative8 ай бұрын
They definitely could have LEDs as a positive feedback indicator. If I’m understanding you correctly and you wanted an LED to light up for each correct button pressed, you could just connect the negative side of power for each LED to its respective Latch. For instance, negative power wire on LED 1 would connect in with the white and yellow wires for Latch 1 in the diagram. The positive side of power for each LED would connect directly to the 12v power supply. Although this could be done, it may make the puzzle too easy, since a player could learn the correct sequence by simple process of elimination on which buttons light up and LED.

This is great, but a question: If the players have the correct numbers, but are getting the order wrong, does it need to be reset (either by hitting a wrong number, or an external reset button in the GM area) before they can get the order correct? For example, if they enter 1, 2, 4, 3, 5 and it doesn't work, so they then try 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 without hitting a wrong button, will it trigger, or does it need a reset first? You reset it every time in the video, so it isn't clear. Looking forward to trying this out!

It will work in the scenario you gave without needing to press a wrong button or resetting 👍🏼
@xavierholden43758 ай бұрын
So the players need access to the wrong/reset button, otherwise they can only try it once.

Players wouldn’t need to press a wrong button to try the correct sequence again. For instance, if the correct code is 12345 and they enter 1235, all they need to do is go back and press 12345 and it would work. So no need to press a wrong button for another attempt.
