Terra Cotta tiles on the pizza slab of the oven is best .. As for the slabs a few pieces of wood nailed into a square or whatever shape a piece of plastic underneath ...2 bags of premixed concrete and some rebar ... mix concrete pour and voila :-)

I also went with the porcelain stones thinking the surface would be a little smoother and nicer to work with, vut it cracked on first heat as well. I looked it up before making that decision and saw that they're supposed to have a higher heat tolerance and be stronger in general than the concrete pavers, so 🤷🏼♂️

Thanks for the video I like the simplicity. When baking the pizza if you leave some extra parchment sticking out towards the front of the oven once the crust starts to set after a few seconds you can snatch the paper out from under. I use this method for baking bread too.

anyway you can make good tasting pizza at home is a win in my book! I'm too old to bend down to work with a pizza that low, so I bought an "Expert Grill" brand pizza oven from Walmart.... It weighs only 40 pounds and can sit safely on a outdoor kitchen cart and, at a $120.00 price it is well within my budget! First bake tonight!!

I use a handful of corn meal or polenta spread on the peel before I put the pizza on it. It lets the pizza slide into the oven beautifully.

Thta is a very cool idea. We have used pizza stones on our gas bbq in the past and it has worked quite well! We will have to try this out!

Hey Katie!!! It’s been awhile since any posts have been made on this post so hopefully you see this and reply soon. Here are a few follow up questions for you: - Are you still using your pizza oven much? - How are the concrete pavers you used for cooking shelf and top? Any cracking or breaking from the high heat? - Any other issues or recommendations you can share about how you might change it if you were starting over to build a new one? Thanks!!

Building a fire on bare concrete is not a good idea. Concrete when heated, can cause trapped moisture to expand, which can make the concrete "explode"

We're going to have to try this!! Where abouts in Michigan? I'm a Michigander, too!
@MrJballn2 жыл бұрын
I did it, it's true it works, you can do it! I did it like y'all did on the existing concrete, saved all the levelling time. I got lucky and found big thick concrete pavers my first trip to the hardware store, I got an extra one for the base so the fire wasn't built right on the existing patio. We've done two pizza nights and two tomahawk steaks in a cast iron in it so far. Sort of tempered it with a couple smaller fires before getting it roaring to keep from the concrete giving out, it's showing some cracks after use but it's holding together. Pretty glad I didn't try to dance on it first though 😂

I was just about to go purchase some 24x24 porcelain tiles to build this with. Any idea why it cracked? Porcelain tile should be able to handle temps above 1000*F since it is made in hot temperatures. Puzzled why this tile failed

Love your videos, when your in Toronto make sure you check out Grande Cheese. There are several locations in Toronto and they have a great variety of Italian cheeses As well as excellent in house made Italian cheese. They also sell a wide variety of Italian imported foods. I believe it was founded by to Italian brothers from Puglia back in the 60's. Good luck with your move.
