You skipped a big step...how you mounted the LS to the crown vic front end. What trans are you pairing the engine with? Nice build!

Haha that wasn't really part of building the turbo hot side. I used some engine mounts from Outcast AutoWorks, and a 4L80E. More videos to come on all of that. Thanks!

Genuine question, not a critic. I realize this is a bigger turbo, but even with TT's you don't see any manufacturers running 4 inch exhausts....couldn't you split that into duals and make it look normal?

So why is the band clamp needed On the factory exhaust manifold? I already know i'm not going to do it. But I don't know everything, i'm just wondering if There's a reason I don't know about that would make me do all that.

Good job on the video! Your videos are concise and clear and that means a lot! You seem like a guy who likes to know fairly worthless facts like myself, so I figured I'd drop one here. Despite common accepted truth, LS manifolds are cast steel which is why they weld so wonderfully, even if you use the wrong filler, wrong heat range, use crappy mig wire, don't preheat or backpurge tig welds BUT, apparently that information is wrong. A guy on LS1tech or YB, maybe turbo forums I can't remember, had a metallurgy test done on them and they are in fact iron and while the explanation wasn't confirmed on why they weld so great, but I think the consensus was that the nickel content is what made them so favorable for amateur welders like myself..

if it doesn't work good just chev it i bet this is rubbing people wrong by the way i have the stands to put a 429 or 460 in a ford pu from 67/72 u can get the steering wheel column out of a 72 lincoln and it bolt right in same with the engine stands for a 429 that is what i would have put in it but i put a 390 in my high boy but still building up a 428 cj for it . plus u can get good crate engines out of motor homes they have some good engines in them with low miles just got a ho 454 with the 4 inch stroke 450 hp at 485 torque with a heavy duty 400 turbo the engine has steel crank heavy rods and pushrods high flow heads 10.5 to 1 compression the trans has the bigger pump heavy clutches stage one shift kit with only 6000 miles on them got the motor home for free sold it for 2000 with out engine and trans so far i got 3 ho 454 , 2 360 , 1 390 , 1 428 cj , 2 460 , 427 chevy out of an old one but the books claim they also put a LS 6 454 in them too just very rare to find but all motor homes have crate engines in them and most people want passing power so they go with the more powerful engines for them i would say the worst i got was the 360 dog engine both still sit the chevy ho 454 is the most popular engine all those engine run perfect most have under 50,000 miles on them and the best part they are free saves a lot of money on a build just to stroke a 454 will cost 4000 bucks the new crate ho 454 is about 8000 to buy plus u get everything to put it in with even twin electric pusher fans and they fit perfect in my 68 chevy pulled a serpintine belt off a 94 pu with a 454 blown in it paid 50 bucks for everything for it even the water pump made it all look factory dun

@@330_garage3 I've had a 70 f100 302 c4 truck for 15 years running off and on. been decided what to do with it. the ls swap looks to be the thing to do. I found a 5.3 on swap for 180 going to get it tomorrow and then start at LKQ on my days off. I have a 69 mustang 351 car I am putting a 4r70w in that I rebuilt using video from "transmission bench" probably going with us shift, and a fitech efi as soon as they show up in a few weeks. thanks for the videos.

A better alternative to the flex joints in a turbo application are exhaust bellows. They cost more but they're a lot more robust while still allowing expansion and a little flex.
@hydrocarbon82
@hydrocarbon82 2 ай бұрын
Flex joints like pictured are bellows. The problem with 99% of raw bellows is they're a single thin stamping, not multi-layer. Multi-layer are hidiously expensive, while single layer cannot survive the pressure from the hotside. I've used the flex joint he's using, and the most extreme example was a guy using the same type on a car that's hit 226mph in multiple events. They work.
@177SCmaro
@177SCmaro 2 ай бұрын
@@hydrocarbon82 I didn't say or imply they don't or can't work, I pointed out bellows are better. You just have to buy the ones intended for a turbo application. I have three on my car that are built with the internal sleeve. They costs more but not monumentally so.
@177SCmaro
@177SCmaro 2 ай бұрын
@@hydrocarbon82 Also, the flex joints he used aren't the same as true exhaust bellows with internal liners. Ace race parts sells them. They're like 30-50 bucks each depending on the size. These look to be the much cheaper flex joints that have a thin corrugated wall under a weave outer covering. Not saying they don't or can't work, just that true bellows are better.
