My grandma owned a garden and hardware store when I was growing up. A couple times a year she would come pull me out of school and take me to the nursery's to help pick out new plants. It was an amazing childhood that translated to my passion for cannabis cultivation.

Seriously tho im only a fraction of the way thru your videos you have already inspired me to grow not only canabis but anything and everything I can that will benefit everyone one around me not only me and my family. There is so much power in gardening. I was raised in the projects of Louisiana and never thought this could be something i want to turn my life to. Now that I have seven growing kids and a beautiful wife I want to do everything I can to support them. I want to teach them like your teaching me so they can provide for themselves better when Im gone from this world. Thank you.

I discovered something cool when starting tomato's for outside. I was using every container in the house and finally resorted to thin, flat takeout containers to germinate seeds in, thinking it would be fine to use in a pinch. They did exceptionally well, but required slightly more frequent watering due to evaporation. I left them there for a good week longer than planned due to cold. The roots grew to the 10" x 10" container but maybe only 2" deep. When I transplanted them into the containers they will finish in, they outgrew everything else by a significant amount. I think I'm on to something here. Maybe if you feel like doing a crazy experiment, try it out. The root mass is expanded across the top before it moves down.

Hi Jeremy, I have a few questions. When building an indoor living soil garden bed, does one need to manage water drainage from the bed? Or is all of the available water cycled through the ecology of the garden? This is the only part that has me stumped so far.. If you had numerical estimates on the amount of produce continuously growing for you to sustain the family that would be helpful for me and i bet others in figuring out how much to grow and how to further take advantage of our space! also if you are canning and storing this produce you know I would be interested in those methods as well ;) I assume everything either gets dried or goes into a lacto ferment? How many worms should i use per square foot in a garden??? I am experimenting to create a mini medicinal permaculture cannabis garden, is there anything i should absolutely NOT plant with the cannabis? Im not necessairly interested in the highest bud yield in so much as I am a healthy garden and healthy plants. I am studying as a medicinal plant chemist as an undergrad right now and nobody is teaching me how to garden!

TALL vs SHORT? DEPENDS! I personally prefer Taller. TALLER IS BETTER in at lest one sense -Air Space. Follow this scenario, an equal volume of identical soil is placed in one squat container 8 inches and into a taller container, let us say 12 inches. The following will be true. The PWT [Perched Water Table] aka saturated zone will be identical in both containers. For the most part, Particle Size Distribution of the substrate components will determine the hydraulic conductivity of the substrate as PSD controls the capillarity of the media. For instance, Clay > Silt > Sand or Clay will wick water higher than sand and have a higher PWT and stay saturated for longer than sand. Some substrate component haves some internal wicking or surficial wicking properties as well. Coco holds water internally pretty well. Vermiculite lattice sponges in more water than Perlite does which only adsorbs rather than absorbs water on it porous surfaces. Indeed Vermiculite does hold more water than perlite and Bugbee found Vermiculite Peat mixes always yielded best results in his studies partially due to generous contributions of amorphous silica available in Vermiculite. . In heavier long term soils, though, Vermiculite flattens and the physical benefits are lost. Also, Vermiculite from many mines is Alkaline reactive. It could take an entire crop cycle to stop the soil pH from spiking upwards after every watering Any way back to tall vs short. .For simplicity let us say that after a thorough watering and enough time to allow for Free Drainage to occur. [In Lab tests, this is usually 24 hours, but in real life, meaningful measurements for Physical Water and Air Characteristics can be made after only a few minutes. At this moment there will be a very saturated zone from the bottom of the container up for a few inches. Let us say this is 3 inches in height. The amount of water that is held against the force of gravity after Free Drainage is aka Container Capacity. In an outdoor soil, this is aka Field Capacity and this is often measured 2 to 3 days after a thorough watering. Now the 8 inch tall container has 3 inches of saturated soil, and 5 inches of decreasingly wet soil as you move towards the surface whereas the 12 inch pot has 3 inches of saturated soil and 9 inches of increasingly drier soil as you move towards the surface. Most marijuana strains are not considered to like wet feet, though they can be acclimatized over time for terrestrial roots to morph into more aquatic type roots so the tall pot actually has a greater volume of soil with more airspace and more soil volume available that is not saturated BTW, Most organic mixes have no problem wicking water 8 to 10 inches high. In various Coco Perlite mixes, in a 3 gallon tall 247 fabric pot [about 11 inches tall] my surface never dries out when it is sitting in 1 inch deep saucer water. I just bought 5 used earth boxes for $5 each that i will try out in a week or so. I noticed Earth Boxes only have 2 small rectangular areas in opposite corners to wick water both vertically and horizontally for a very large volume of soil. I tend to think this is suboptimal To be honest, i believe this could be easily improve upon by drilling some holes in the deck and adding some panty hose wrapped net pots that are filled with the soil mix to improve water wickability across a greater surface area to keep up with a plants demands. I am also going to add a second fill pipe mostly to provide greater air flow under the soil deck to oxygenate the water and i will add a float valve mechanism or fill one of the fill pipes with ping pong balls to serve as a visual guide as when to manually water. Short vs Tall. Well Short Containers do not fall over as easily, and short containers should last a little longer between waterings, but as I pointed out before, Short containers will be less well drained and easier for it to have root rot problems. Tall pots will dry out faster as they have more gravity over a smaller surface area

Ok so serious questions. First off i live in Virginia and we just got the green light for cultivating on july 1 2021. So over years of gorilla grows and home setups im able to move outdoors. Ive been trying to compile genetics that would work in the Chesapeake area. So that being said ive started collecting strains. Now am i better starting with super soils or truly building a soil? Second. Because of my past experience i wanted to do assisted grows as a business is that legal? No one can answer this for me at all. I really need advice
@SaulTeebolz3 жыл бұрын
Buildasoil is a Colorado company. I live in va, helping people grow is totally legal. No sales of any kind. You can have 4 plants total at your own house if you own. This would be a question that a lawyer can answer or your better of contacting Virginia norml.

@oliverrasmussen47773 жыл бұрын
Generic grown cannabis have a tap root. This means that in nature the root will go deep into the soil to find water an and nutrients. If you grow from seed a tall container is the best solution if you want to mimic nature. If you have a clone it will always grow fibrous roots and you will be fine with a cubic container. (vegetative propagation) This is what you learn first year as a greenhouse gardener. You can grow nice cannabis in pots with all dimensions. What matter is the size of the pot according to the strain, quality of the soil and growers skill level. Don't always trust KZbinrs and people in the comment section. They are often happy go lucky growers witch is perfectly fine. Don't trust me. Go ask your local greenhouse gardener about tap roots and fibrous roots and I'm sure you will get the same answer as I'm writing here. Too heavy usage of nutrients can cause plasmolysis. Plasmolysis is when water gets pulled out of the plant cell and that's what people call root burn. Hope this didn't sound too negative. Happy outdoor season here from the northern hemisphere.
