Wish I had a sink next to my washer for those items that need a pre wash scrub or soak. Also a flat space for folding would be amazing. No I don’t have either of those this time but I make do. I got a rolling laundry cart so I don’t need to carry heavy laundry around. I got the idea from laundromats.

If you install a floor drain in your house that’s not used every day. Install a trap primer or else the water will dry out of the ptrap on the floor drain allowing sewer gas to enter. In commercial plumbing it’s code

@jake16542
@jake16542 Жыл бұрын
@@CCRep123 no that does not solve the problem the ptrap to the WM box is in the wall if the floor drain is in the floor how do you tie the floor drain in above the ptrap of the WM box? Your pipe will be above the finished floor. If you hook onto the horizontal of the WM box you still need to put a ptrap on the floor drain which will still need a trap primer because it’s not in constant use

@@CCRep123 if your thinking to stack the floor drain and the WM on the same ptrap in the ground it won’t work. Standard FD is 6” deep plus 4” makeup on a 2” ptrap that’s 10” now add a santee to that equation puts us about 13”. That’s too deep to install on a second floor residential house. Plus if you stack the 2 you won’t have a went on your WM box won’t pass inspection in any state. I like the idea tho but not gonna work in this application trap primer only. Buy a cast iron tapped tee and band it onto the abs or pvc to save money on having to buy a floor drain with a trap primer installed on it. The price difference is almost $100 per floor drain

@@Ampacityelectric I have never heard about putting oil, but I would install a floor drain that has a trap primer slot on it. You would then run the trap primer pipe under the floor to the wall. You would then put an access panel wher you would tie a water line to the trap primer. You can do that or you can just pour a cup of water down the drain every couple of weeks.

Washing machine drain pans aren't connected directly to the plumbing system. They drain into either a floor drain near the furnace or into a wash tub in the lower level therefore they don't need a trap. Modern furnaces and AC systems create enough condensation that the floor trap will never dry up.

Put the laundry room in the garage no worries for flooding easy to move in to place by unloading it right out of the truck onto the floor and push it against the wall. And it gives you the option to have 240 V if you need to unplug the dryer to run a tool like the welder Or maybe charge an electric car if you're not doing laundry😊

Sink, folding area, storage for detergents, iron brushes, etc., multiple arms to hang people's laundry. When done, they take it upstairs or to their room. If downstairs. Laundry shoot that is large enough to hold a full basket. Better yet, dream of a laundry closet within the room that the baskets can slip in so they can be sorted, and when full, I do a load.

Yeah, that would be nice. We didn't build our home, but love it. The only issue is the laundry room. It's in the walkway between the side entrance and the rest of the house. Excellent advice ❤ the concept of a drain with a drip pan for leaks, that do happen, and the dryer hose enclosure to prevent a hazard 👍 An ironing board that comes from the wall (like a Murphy bed), a closeline (retractable possibly), better yet, a wooden bar (like in a closet), a sink with a huge window, and a long table down the center to fold clothes, and a mini fridge 😊 just saying 😊 Love this! Ok, the easy one, the dryer vent needs an outside wall, with minimum bends, preferably the back of the dryer faces the outside wall, but don’t vent the dryer out the front of the house. The sides of the house are ok but the back is better. Now for the washing machine drain; where does it go? Sanitary sewer? (Would need a trap that would dry out) Can you drain it to daylight? I can’t figure the best way to run the drain and how to terminate it.

washing machine 'malfunction' as you stated, spitting water all over place, most of cases are: 1. when washing machine discharge hose is not connected secured properly into laundry box ( that's the highest % of incidents) and while drain pump is engaged, hose can get out of the laundry box drain port and spill soapy water all over -the worst scenario as that water will be the hardest to be cleaned.. 2. when washing machine water hoses are not connected properly to same..laundry box , threads croosed using excessive force using plyers to tight hoses to laundry box's water valves..and over few usages, water will leak out of the thread, this scenario is the 2nd place as disasters.. 3. More rare but it happened in the past few times when brand new washing machine hoses are defective and will let water leak but just after a while after being installed, this is the less probable scenario.. Other than these, never heard a flood,leak due to washing machine 'malfunction' , imagine the lawsuit seller+ manufacturer will be engaged 💍 into...your statement gave me a good laugh.😊

It’s almost impossible when the national builders have laundry up in ALL their floor plans and the customer cannot change the plan. That said, so many new homes have laundry up for the convenience that laundry is generated where bedrooms and upstairs showers/bath exist. What kind of repairs or findings do you most frequently encounter to support your valuable input/comment here? Are there routine washer inspections you recommend? Ie. I think a drip pan without a drain may “catch small volumes of water from a cracked internal washer drum or other small leak within the unit, but I may need to learn what/how to look -any panels to remove for clear view of wash bin/drum integrity,etc ?
@kristyconnors5041
@kristyconnors5041 8 ай бұрын
What if the design/build of your home does not have a drain in the floor? I know a drip pan could help, but I don’t think those hold much volume to prevent flooding when laundry is on 2nd floor. So, we plan to replace/remove the current water valve unit and install an auto-shut off valve with a drip pan for smaller leaks. Can you share what you would do in this scenario? Can you recommend a quality shut off valve and would this be a good solution?!

Raised machines, both washer and dryer. At minimum a foot off the floor, at best the bottom of both door should be boob height to make it easy to load and unload and keeps control panels and knobs at around eye level. Also keeps them out of reach for small kids but handy enough that older children can use them. The space under is storage. Shelf/cupboards above for rarely needed stuff. All laundry room should have at least a single sink or tub as well. Twin full sized laundry tubs are better, and one big enought to fit a Lab sized dog in.
