Just a tad bit of advice ....I used to be a tuner in AHDRA... The big boys that ran the Nitro Harleys I often chatted with, ran CVTs on a jack shaft. I know in conversation they often said getting the springs and weights dialed in the CVT along with final gearing was more important than the fine tuning of the motor. The object was to get the maximum amount of torque to the pavement locked to the ground.. minimum wheel spin and control of the bike. Maybe talk to one of those top fuel Harley teams to get some advice

Awesome work man! 👏 This thing is definitely gonna move out when it's completed. May I suggest making your self an adjustable and portable wrist rest bar out of some scrap tubing to help aid in your tig welding. It will allow you to have more control, balance, and better consistency in your movements by not having to use your intire arm. It helped me out tremendously.

the guy talking about the tourqe arm is correct you need that so the power of your motor doesn't twist the frame and bring the clutches closer together. Tuning in those clutches is going to be the most rewarding and frustrating part of this build because that's where you will find the real speed increases but it's going to be a process to figure out the right combination in your primary and secondary

Cro mo need to be tig because of the shielding gas used (argon) will help with porosity in simple terms A cro mo bar mig welded will not pass tech. Also when welding tube with both ends closed you should drill a small hole so the pressure in the tube has some where to go This will help in blow by gasses This hole is usually hidden by the other tube

Make sure you are putting your jackshaft bearings as close to that secondary pulley as possible. (So you should put your bearings on the OUTSIDE of the frame, so that it's closer to the pulley) --- and you will want bearings very close to each side of your sprocket that is going to the wheel. All I know is, I had a 1" solid shaft and it still got bent by the pull of the chain. Just make sure you have bearings as close as you can get them to the pulleys and sprockets. I bent 2 shafts before I ended up making it strong enough; with only a 500cc Rotax twin. The power that CVT puts into that shaft is insane-- and if your tires have good traction, something is going to give. lol.. (AN aluminum jackshaft would never work IMO)

@backyarddeathtraps5831
@backyarddeathtraps5831 Жыл бұрын
Alot of the motors he uses have never had rubber mounts in the first place as the majority of motorbike motors are solid mounted and are a part of the structure of the bike. And running chains with a motor that can move is a no no.
@eugenesbackyardrepair4593
@eugenesbackyardrepair4593 Жыл бұрын
@@backyarddeathtraps5831 not always true. He builds most of his high powered projects with independent transmission to run the chains. So he should definitely be using rubber mounts on thoes projects but he never does. He over gusets everything and they end up failing anyway. My kx has a chain and guess what rubber mounted engine too .. huuummm so when it comes to higher powered stuff yes rubber motor mounts or keep having mounts/hardware failures
@backyarddeathtraps5831
@backyarddeathtraps5831 Жыл бұрын
@@eugenesbackyardrepair4593 id love to know what kind of KX as i go straight for a motorcross bike which wouldnt be rubber mounted in the original bike and wouldnt need to be when put in something else. This snowmobile motor was rubber mounted from factory with only 4 mounts so is a good idea to use rubber as the cast alloy crankcase could shear with the "torque twist" after awhile where a motorbike motor doesn't need to.
