Great series of videos on the 1000D. This is going to be my upgrade. Except, here in early 2023 the case is on backorder. But, that's fine since I plan to wait to next year anyways. A case like this deserves an EATX motherboard with a new Chipset that will handle PCIe 5.0 and M.2 PCIe 5.0 drives. It may not hurt to also wait for an RTX 5090 to throw in there as well as some DDR5 memory. So I'm guessing I will end up waiting 1.5 years, to late 2024?

Does the ASUS ITX Board actually support ECC?? The spec sheet on ASUS' website says it doesn't. I too want to build a FreeNAS setup to replace my Qnap but can't find a motherboard I like that ACTUALLY supports ECC.
@JuanPretorius6 жыл бұрын
dude, this doesn't answer your question, but you look like you know what you're talking about. What's freenas? Apparently it's "enterprise-class storage software designed with data protection as the primary objective" but why has Paul got a second system inside this build? *Confused*
@HotRodHippie6 жыл бұрын
Juan Pretorius it is a FreeBSD based operating system. It is for building your own NAS setup (network access storage). So instead of buying a prebuilt NAS (at a premium) you build a small computer to your own specific needs and run FreeNAS as its OS. So Paul is building Riptide to both edit videos AND store the raw footage/completed projects. One computer will be the editing Rig. The other will be the storage.
@HotRodHippie6 жыл бұрын
I am quickly filling up my Qnap NAS and I don't like the software it runs on. So I'm looking to build myself a FreeNAS system before the end of the year. However I want ECC memory support. Ryzen seems to be the most affordable way to do that, (aside from used server hardware) except I can't find a small form factor and affordable mobo that actually supports ECC.

Suggestions for waterblocks that are compatible with the strix 1080ti?
@forza1sra6 жыл бұрын
Patrick Crowley EK and Phanteks have options for it. However only Phanteks can RGB waterblocks if you're into that. I wouldn't look to water cool the Strix 1080ti because it will void your warranty (there's a sticker on one of the screws you would have to remove so they can in fact tell). I would go with the Gigabyte 1080ti as it has a 4 year warranty (compared to the 2 on the Strix) and water cooling doesn't void it. We are supposedly in for an announcement on May 30th for the 1180 which will be released in June-July (as is all ways the case) so I'm waiting for that.

@tobygreenwood50366 жыл бұрын
aidanjt I agree, only budget cases should come with fans
@zahidshabir40386 жыл бұрын
why should budget cases come with fans when people are on a budget they are trying to save money (and budget is not defined by the price of the build someone could have a $3,000 budget for their PC) and to make the most of any budget there should be NO included fans unless they are what someone would expect to put in their case we do not want 5+ year old fans and fan designs we want new fans and I am sure people with low budgets would agree
@tobygreenwood50366 жыл бұрын
Zahid Shabir I was thinking for young/old system builders who want as little hassle as possible
@KiraSlith6 жыл бұрын
Zahid Shabir because they get bulk fans for dirt cheap (0.25c a fan usually) and a budget builder will usually need the included cheap fans.

I just did a simple build in a Corsair 1000D, using just fans. My new long term goal, is to look for ways to gradually upgrade and hopefully get a video card the size of a watermelon. LOL ! I found the old thumb screws everywhere to be really annoying. My ASUS X570 fit so perfectly into the spot, that is was so simple to install. I wish the back exhaust area had room for two 140mm fans, but it only has room for one and an additional 120mm or just two 120 mm's. My CPU cord barely reached the powersupply. I would have preferred to have three 140mm fans on the front for my air-build, but that was not a deal-breaker. My Noctua fans would not reach the Commander Pro, but I have the Noctua extension cords laying around here in a pile somewhere, so I will fix that tomorrow. I do not know if I will add a mini-ITX to the build. I wish it had a spot for a Raspberry Pi or Odroid. LOL ! I really did not want a full glass panel, expecially on the back, but I did what hinged doors on both sides. I really wish there was a chassis fan hole on the glass near the video card area. I will likely not have hard-drives on my build, but if so, just one. I plan to fill up the SSD area and have a Linux distro or some other OS on each SSD. The only think unique about my build, is that I have Fedora Rawhide Workstation loaded on the first NVMe which is a fast one, and then I have Fedora 33 Beta Workstation loaded on the 2nd NVMe which is slightly slower, but one TB. For the time being, I just have a new Ryzen 3 1200AF, but I will eventually put something better in. I have a giant Noctua Air-cooler and plan to fill all the fan holes with premium fans. But little to no RGB. www.dropbox.com/s/3djp5xh90sn0ihm/Photo%20Oct%2011%2C%2011%2036%2040%20PM.jpg?dl=0 I am very worried about moving it though, as I am old and frail and live upstairs, and I might have to move out soon due to being furloughed at work because of the COVID b.s.

Paul, may I recommend a 3/4 or 1 ton ductless single zone system for your garage? Judging your space in there, 3/4 or 1 ton will keep your garage nice and climate controlled. All those fancy components deserve it. get a heat pump!

I missed this one definitely on my bucket list to build.

I mean with a case like this, you kinda have to do 420mm rad up top for 1950x, 2x480mm rads in front, one for each 1080Ti, and a 120/140mm rad in the rear for the 2400G

Awesome, good idea under-volting the AMD for FreeNAS, since it doesn't require that much power. Please do a follow-up on the FreeNAS portion! Also, it would be cool to see power-draw of the system once under-volted / under-clocked.

do a FULL custom loop with liquid cooled CPU/GPU's (non of that quick disconnect fitting stuff you got for that CPU block it needs to be hardline tubing) all rads need to be extra thick and with push/pull configuration for the fans

Insane build man. I wonder how heavy it will be when you're done. Might need to reinforce the floor its gonna sit on lol. With 21 fans it'll sound like a server room when you fire it up

Gorgeous build so far. But more importantly Ive never really understood the point of these two-board cases... until you said NAS. Seems so obvious in retrospect. Useful idea + awesome too.

Finally, something I can actually afford to build myself!

this case can support up to 24 fans normally or 26 if you place a 240 radiator with the tubes on the bottom. up to 16 on the front, 6 on top and 4 on the back (if radiator as i said)

I found the concept of the sadly discontinued *Lian Li PC-D666WRX* way more appealing. The case fitted an EATX and µATX mainboard simultaneously in two separated chambers with space for one 480 mm and two 360 mm radiators.

Can I get a suggestion of the best processor for gaming... Not keeping in mind the budget.... And the cooler for it.

Ryzen over Intel. Ryzen 1700 or 2700 are great choices

Been subbed to your channel for several years now. I don't think I've ever seen you take on a project this extreme before. Definitely not with all the RGB'ness. I look forward to seeing what you come up with :)

lighting is looking pretty good @paul one tip- i could give is to try to position them each frame to get rid of all those shadows. other then that they look pretty good. and to try and make it so you can see them in the frame

I don’t remember to much but they’re was a custom pc from origin pc I think that had two system in one case. The point of having two system in one case is for streaming and gaming at the same time.

SSD for booting Freenas? You'd be better off using a much smaller (16GB) disk, or even a USB thumb drive. The SSD could be used as a L2ARC if you have enough RAM to make it useful.

That case is soooo big!! I have a 750D and I think it’s humongous. Question, is the 1000D bigger?

This rivals Bitwit Kyle's 10K build. Nice video Paul. I hope that Corsair makes an Obsidian case that's between the 500D and the 1000D.
