Building a Barndominium part 4 is all about installing LP weatherlogic Roof sheathing. I am happy that thru my partnership with LP they donated the LP Weatherlogic sheathing to use and give my clients the best exterior possible to defend their home against the elements during the build. There are many reasons I like the weatherlogic, but if I had to just pick one reason, it would be the epic flatness it gives my roof once all nailed off.
If you want to build something similar to this, I do have the building plans available and it shows all of our details.
You can find that as well as others here
rrplans.bigcar...
If you would like to get some awesome hearing protection that we use and save some money, use my link and code!

This is a good book. Does provide a step by step introduction to how to build things kzbin.infoUgkxhgbP-6hUnXu_QRaoHgLztgsI0YF3HqR0 , also does offer some steps. Includes pictures to give you ideas for layouts and such. If you are looking for a guide, this is not exactly what you want. But if you are trying to familiarize yourself with the way that pole barn building and other out buildings, are made, then this will work just as you need it to. A few things in this book are a barn (of course), detached garage, storage building, and coops.

This brought back memories. I worked for my dad's company when I was 15. I say worked, but I was never paid a dime. Anyways... I had to get up on roofs with him, and we had no fall protection. The first place wasn't an issue. A one floor house with a lush, grassy yard. Falling off that roof was a minor inconvenience, not painful. Then, we did a 3 1/2 story motel. That was a nightmare. Packed dirt all around us, the buildings swaying in the slightest breeze. The plywood used for the roof was terrible, with soft spots everywhere. I fell through that roof. More than once. At 15. And unlike today, I was not a durable fat man. I was all of 5'6" and about 140 lbs. soaking wet. I do not miss that crap.

The thing you have to watch out most for is sawdust on the roof sheets. That makes things like that roof turn to ice. I keep a battery blower in my manlift just in case. The secret to any good job is taking the time to do the right preparation. The rest of the job goes so much easier.

Ok boys - you're both pretty; in about as manly a way as possible - hehe. My son came up with four sisters, so programs like this, football (contact sports), and role models like these young men, are essential to a viable society I think. We men have 10-times testosterone levels seen in women, so we need the constructive know-how to build stuff with all that energy.

Good product great job. I would love to be able to do something like that on my buildings. We have no sheathing on our roof and only the odd bit of 4.5mm bracing ply on our walls. If I could get a product like that the cost we pay for any sheet product in Oz it would make every job a million dollar home. The gear you have and the price to make it viable on that scale I can only dream of. I was told the other day that sheet metal roofing etc. Is going up 38% in February. It has already gone up several times this year. People can't afford to build a house. Wages are not keeping pace.

Love the videos. I’m not sold on the Zip style system. Probably not scientific of me, but I’ve seen a lot of chipboard failure over the years. And a lot of oak and poplar boxing that looked as good at 100 as the day it was put on. Under that good old black tar paper usually. I guess zip is more sustainable.

Kyle, I build in Idaho now, and we use the double truss system with a truss on either side of the the post. We then hanger off both sides with mostly 2x8 purlins snow load is fairly high here. With that being my wife and I are planning on moving to Oklahoma where construction is almost identical to yours. My question is how do you stagger your purlins with the overlapping ends to make your sheets fall correctly in the center? I have thought of several ideas but wanted to hear from the best! Thank you and keep up the good work.

That LP smart side is great stuff. Used it on my house build, and my garage build over OSB. 1 piece sat on the ground in a puddle for almost a year (“clean” area off the dirt in the yard for rinsing off paint brushes and such) it was still solid and like new when it was moved. There 76 version that’s structural rated is great also if your not going to do OSB under neath. Expensive but great stuff

I live in western NY we just had grape season and about the same time each year we get lots of rain ,, it rained every day for a week .. also where I live we get lots of wind so that system would be great roof paper would not stay on with some of the wind we get up on the hill here ..

I am really loving this series you have on the barndo! One question, around 5:00 in the video, im assuming there was a reason why you started to run the roof sheathing in about a foot, you didnt start it at the edge of the overhang, why was that? Wouldnt it have been stronger for the sheathing to span that seam, instead of having a narrow strip of osb? Like i said, im sure theres a great reason you did it that way, no hating, just genuinely curious. Thanks greatly for the awesome content!!

LP techshield radiant barrier vs LP weatherlogic Roof sheathing What's the quick rule thumb uses? Did the cost difference of the sheet and larger build cross section to get the 2" air gap, dictate the weatherlogic in this build? Does a tin roof (water/condensation) vs shingle roof for the techshield also dictate the sheeting ?
